Simon wears his mask like armor, shielding him in secret, power, and manipulation, as he gives with one hand and takes with the other. While promises of happiness are often woven in the hushed thrill of watching others beg for his favor.
Phoenix is untouched by moral constraints, believing his only mask is the one he physically puts on for The Sect—the employer for whom he facilitates exclusive, illicit entertainment for the wealthy elite.
Between them stands Roni. Wide-eyed. Unknowing. Phoenix's last chance at love—at something real. But with an empire built on corruption and control, Roni remains oblivious to being the next acquisition in the spotlight of being owned.
When the masks begin to crack, visibility becomes starvation, love becomes vengeance, and trust becomes the most dangerous weapon of all.
Because, in The Sect, everyone’s hiding something, and the only way out is to be…
Simon Says is a dark, intoxicating descent into power, obsession, and the masks we wear to survive and the ones we use to control others.
Simon is the kind of character you can’t look away from: calculating, magnetic, and terrifyingly generous when it suits his agenda. He treats secrets like currency and people like investments, and watching him maneuver through his empire of influence felt like watching a chess master move pieces across a board made of human emotions. Every kindness has a hook, every promise a price.
Phoenix is just as fascinating morally unbound, convinced he’s honest because he only wears one literal mask. His job with The Sect is equal parts seductive and sinister, and his longing for something real makes him painfully human in a world that thrives on artificiality. And then there’s Roni sweet, wide-eyed, and completely unaware she’s being pulled into a web of control and ownership. Her innocence makes everything feel ten times more tragic and tense.
The themes of identity, manipulation, consent, and the cost of visibility are woven beautifully into the story. When the masks start to crack, the emotional stakes skyrocket. Love turns into a weapon, trust becomes a liability, and every revelation feels like a slow, deliberate unmasking both of the characters and the reader.
If you love dark, morally complex romances with shadowy organizations, power dynamics, and characters who blur the line between villain and lover, Simon Says will absolutely scratch that itch. It’s haunting, seductive, and unsettling in the best way one of those books that lingers in your thoughts long after you close the cover. 🖤
Unfortunately this did not completely hit for me. The bones of the story were there and I loved the ideas. In fact I was actually really excited for the arc. It started out decent. Phoenix coming into town and meeting Roni at the coffee shop. Coming back daily and being dark and mysterious. I liked the age gap. The book has very dark themes of kidnapping and traffiking. With an auction and a hunt type situation which didn’t bother me at all and actually gave it some depth, but when it came down to it the execution just didn’t run smoothly. After Roni is kidnapped and rescued the whole thing jumps time and becomes a whole different book. It becomes less believable. One I felt like she fell into her cam girl biz really fast for her trauma healing and two I can’t imagine Phoenix’s possessive ass letting her even go there even if it is how she deals with her past. Plus it just got a bit boring. Pages of description of her getting ready but blowing over key parts that I felt needed more explaining. All in all it seems some people are really enjoying this book for what it is which is some dark smut but I needed a bit more in the plot dept.
A copy of this book was provided by the author. My review is voluntary and all opinions are my own.
Simon says SB Rogue report to the front! There is no way you needed to write a book that was this dark and deliciously filthy!! This book is not for those who don’t like their dark and twisty books with a heavy dose of unhinged characters. This book grabs you by the front of your shirt in the very beginning and doesn’t let you go until the end. The author was very thorough when listing the triggers for this book and I highly suggest checking them before reading as the book does address material that may not sit well with all audiences. The author also doesn’t shy away from the listed triggers he leans into them. Seeing how this story unfolded was truly remarkable.
Thank you so much to Sb Rogue for the copy of this book! All thoughts and opinions are my own💜💜
OMG!! I absolutely loved this book and it absolutely destroyed me emotionally in the best possible way!! Where in the world do I find a guy like Simon?!? Roni was a great and strong MFC her trauma made her into a beautiful and resilient woman. Phoenix was definitely an interesting character, who sorta rubbed me the wrong way, I found him to be an entitled prick especially with the way he treats Roni. Phoenix also gives off narcissistic energy throughout the book, which made me want to murder him.
This is my first book by SB, but definitely not my last. This book had me hooked from beginning to end. The d@rk and d3pravity of this book had me questioning things. I loved the plot, the spice and everything in between. Definitely can’t wait for more.
IF YOU HAVE NOT READ AN SB ROGUE BOOK YET WHAT ARE YOU DOING?? This man is a story teller. No. Scratch that. This man is a mind fucker. He gets into the depths of your psychology and rips out all the hard wiring. You start questioning things. You're waiting for the shoe to drop. And then when the book is finished you're thinking about it. Peeling back the layers because NOTHING IS FACE VALUE. NOTHING IS FINISHED. ITS NOT NOTHING! It's SOMETHING but WHAT IS IT AND WHEN?
WTF, those are my first thoughts. Roni is just trying to live her best life, but it manless. Then one day Phoenix walks into her life( they meet at her job). They both are intrigued by each other one more than the other maybe. Roni and Phoenix are developing a bond and it seems sweet but I know there is something dark coming. I mean this man’s job isn’t the best. I like Phoenix even though he may be a bad man he’s a softie for Roni. Roni has more spunk than I thought she had. Y’all our girl done got caught up in some mess. It seems like the big event happened too quickly but I know more goodness is about to go down. We time jumped and I am so on edge about what is about to happen. All I can say is Roni is playing with fire and when it explodes it’s going to be wild. She is going down a rabbit hole and I’m screaming “don’t do it b***h!” Phoenix is watching our girl and I’m ready for him to find out what I know. My man Nixy (that’s what I call him) is putting puzzle pieces together. Did I also mention this man is tech genius? He is! At this point my flabbers are ghasted and I’m starting to doubt myself. 😂. I thought I figured it out but I don’t know anymore. I finished, I’m not confused anymore. I don’t know if this review makes any sense but this book was crazy. It’s not often that a book can keep me on my toes and I don’t see things coming but Simon Says sure did. The first half of the book( before the time jump) was sort of slow and laying the foundations, but the second half of the book had all the action and puzzles to keep you guessing. SB bravo 👏🏾. If you’re looking for crazy, hot, wild, kept on your toes of time it’s right here. I can’t wait for the next book, I will be tuning in!
“Simon Says” by SB Rogue is not for the faint of heart… and I mean that. This book is dark romance pushed to the absolute edge—unhinged, disturbing, and completely addictive. If you’re someone who checks trigger warnings and still says “I’m intrigued,” this is for you.
Roni and Phoenix’s relationship is the definition of chaotic intensity. The dynamic is toxic, obsessive…. But at the same time safe and loving. What a conundrum lol. Its layered in a way that keeps you questioning everything.
What can I say about Simon?! It’s really a love and hate relationship!! IYKYK 😏
The world of the Sect/Abbey? Twisted. Brutal. Honestly horrifying. And yet the author writes it in a way that pulls you deeper instead of pushing you away. 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ — yes, it’s THAT spicy
⚠️ Heavy triggers!!!!
This isn’t a romance you read for comfort. It’s one you read for the shock, the intensity, and the “what did I just read but I can’t stop” feeling. If you like your dark romance truly dark… Simon definitely says read this. #DarkRomance #BookTok #SpicyReads #UnhingedBooks #WhyChoose
Simon Says is officially my favorite book from SB Rogue so far.
This story is spicy, bold, addictive, and absolutely not for the faint of heart. It dives into dark themes with confidence, but never loses its grip on the emotional tension simmering underneath. I was fully pulled into the story from the very first chapter.
The ending left things slightly open, which I actually loved. Knowing there’s more to come makes it even better.
That said, the very last part felt just a tiny bit rushed. I can’t quite put my finger on what was missing, but it left me wanting a little more emotional weight before the final page. Still, this was an easy four stars from me.
Dark, daring, deliciously tense and unforgettable. I will absolutely be first in line for the sequel. 🔥✨
Thank you so much to SB Rogue for trusting me with an early copy of this story. I’m so grateful for the opportunity 🖤
Okay… this one? Absolutely FILTHY. And I mean that in the best way 😮🔥 this is not your soft, vanilla kind of smut… it’s bold, dirty, and fully unhinged.
Phoenix honestly annoyed me in the first half… I needed him to grow a backbone ASAP because sir?? What are we doing 😭 BUT he did come through in the end and I loved seeing him finally step up for Roni.
And Roni? A whole chaotic, filthy tempest. That girl knows exactly who she is and owns it. Phoenix didn’t stand a chance… he fell hard and fast.
The Simon Says element added such a twisted, addictive layer. Even though he’s a complete piece of shit (sorry S he's the worst) … you can’t look away 👀
From the Prologue— maybe I should start with never have I read a book by SB Rogue. This is my first, and surely will not be my last. My goodness what a hot steamy read. 🥵
Back to as I was saying—. From the Prologue, the opening of this book grabbed a hold of me and dared not to release me. It has it all. From cams, auctions, and a man that is certain for any great dark tale. Wow. I was not sure what to expect, but it certainly didn't disappoint. The MMC is not only dark, but wears many masks. What a dive into a world I cannot wait to see more from!
After the ending, you read about it being dedicated to his wife, telling him about the books she reads from. This male author brought so much to the table, and I have read female authors nail things but grab Simon Says. The word flow, the way his story unfolds is nothing but phenomenal.
You know I’ve been waiting on this since he started telling us about it
I didn’t know what to expect going in only that I wanted it.
Now I’m off today so I decided I was gonna do it. I was gonna read it. And let me tell you. First of all thank you to his wife, Daria and Devon . Because I’m pretty sure that because the three of you this was so much better than it probably was before y’all got your hands on it
Now if you read birthday presence just know this is somewhat mind f*ck3ry but not to that extent but on a separate level.
Forget what you think before the Simon says games begin because the amount of twists and turns you’re gonna take is going to have you second guessing everything!! I’m still second and triple guessing what I just went through!!
And umm the way we were left. Like there’s going to be more.. from others as well. So like a mini series? WHAT?! You can’t end the way you did like everything is ok because it most certainly is not ok!!!
Umm I need more because this is most def not the end.

Simon Says is a very dark, intense romance that tackles heavy themes like trauma, power, and survival. The author is clear about content warnings, which I appreciated, and the story doesn’t shy away from exploring difficult emotions. I had a harder time connecting in the early chapters, as the pacing was a bit slow for me at first. However, as the story unfolded, the characters and overarching plot became more engaging, and I could see the depth and intention behind the narrative. Overall, this isn’t an easy read, but it’s a meaningful one. Readers who enjoy dark romance and psychological tension will likely appreciate it, especially once the story hits its stride.
OMG!!! This book. Ugh. To say I thoroughly enjoyed this is an understatement — and honestly, I don’t even know what that says about me. Please don’t judge. It’s dark. It’s smutty. It’s deliciously unhinged… and I want more. I was completely hooked. The tension, the intensity, the morally gray chaos? Yes, please. I do wish it went just a little darker in some places — I was ready to be pushed even further — but maybe that’s coming in future books. I’ll be waiting. And Roni? I need her revenge arc. I need it messy. I need it satisfying. I want to see her rise and burn it all down while we meet all the other characters along the way. Yes please, Daddy. 👀🔥
This is the first book I've read of SB's and I throughly enjoyed it!
It keep me wanting more from the first page!
Every character was portrayed perfectly and I felt like I was in the story with them! The twists and turns and the plot twists! I was on the edge of my seat! It was also a rollercoaster of a ride but I would totally read it again!
The emotions in this book! Oh and how can I forget the spice! The spice was spicing!!! 😮💨😮💨
This book did not disappoint! The plot had many unexpected twists that kept me interested the unable to put the book down. The character development was wonderful, and each character felt real and grew in a natural way throughout the story. The storyline also flowed perfectly, and everything fit together nicely without feeling confusing or rushed. Parts of it will hurt your heart and others make you gasp. Overall, it was a great, engaging read that I’d definitely recommend.
this was a fun one ... dark and twisted in the best way ...if you are a naughty one who enjoys stalking and primal play ... masked men .this could be your next fav read ... smutty with a plot ..4.75 stars rounded up from me ty for allowing me the opportunity to arc read this crazy story !! ...Simon says read this book !!!
Definitely a lot more dark than my usual reading. Story line well written with a lot of smut but it does deal with a lot of tough topics so read at your own risk!
This book is not for the faint of heart. This is a dark twisted thriller full of psychological games. Story filled with mind games, heavy tension and dark themes. In true Rogue fashion, he keeps you guessing right up until the very last page.
Our FMC, Roni, is just a barista in a coffee shack until she isn’t. After meeting Phoenix, she unknowingly gets sucked into his world and it changes her to her very core. Simon says..“Guess who I am?”

Thank you to the author for this gifted eARC in exchange for an honest review.
Welcome to my first DNF ever. At 32%, I just could not force myself through it anymore.
At this point, I had nearly a full page of notes of all the inconsistencies and grammatical issues. There were multiple moments where details didn’t line up, and it genuinely started to feel like I was editing instead of reading.
I also struggled with the MMC. I love dark romance, but I do need some level of redeeming quality to stay invested. In this case, the MMC actively participates in extremely violent acts with no meaningful justification or inner conflict, which made it impossible for me to connect to his character. It basically comes down to him saying, well… I hate that my ex left me, and most of these girls didn’t have a future to begin with anyway. Just because life sucks doesn’t mean you can use it as a justification to chase and rape women.
Because of that, I also couldn’t believe in the romance. I couldn’t see how the FMC could realistically accept or move past his actions, especially when they directly affect people in her life. At one point, you know she’ll have to find out. And if she would accept it, there’s no way I could respect her for it.
SPOILER WARNING
The inconsistencies were eating me alive. A few examples: • She was wearing a dress, and then shortly after, the MMC takes off her skirt and she’s still wearing a shirt. Soooo, not a dress then. • The FMC saying, “and I still don’t even know his name.” He just told her his name is Phoenix SIX sentences ago… • The MMC asking her, “Where do you live?” He brought her home after saving her from Brad. Obviously, he knows where she lives already.
I’m not going to give examples of ALL the grammar mistakes. Normally, I don’t mention them in my reviews at all, unless there are this many.
Some of the intimate scenes also felt off. It just didn’t feel realistic. For example, after a scene where he orally pleases her, it immediately jumps to her being “hoarse from screaming,” which felt exaggerated at best. I did not get the vibe that she was literally screaming at the top of her lungs. How bad do your vocal cords have to be to get hoarse this quickly?
And lines like “making me acutely aware of how wet I still am despite my earlier releases” were just the nail in the coffin. We’re talking two minutes later. Women don’t magically dry up to the level of the Sahara Desert right after a “release.” It just screamed to me that it was written by a man. I don’t mean to sound harsh, but fuck, I don’t know how else to put it.
First Impressions: This book has an incredible elevator pitch - organized crime, secret societies, MCs leading double lives, etc.
Pacing: The pacing is probably my biggest issue with the book. The instalove between Roni and Phoenix took me out of the suspenseful build up in the first quarter of the book. I don't think every suspense or dark romance needs to follow the same timeline or formula. However, this book is loosely organized into three acts, and the progression from each act to the next felt less like transitions and more like speed bumps.
Character development: I really like the FMC, Roni. She sweet but strong, and makes a decisive choice to empower herself through her trauma rather than be broken by it. Phoenix, the MMC, just feels a little underbaked. His deception in the third act felt unnecessary and a little too late. If he had made the discovery and change identities earlier. It would have built the suspense for the reader more intensely.
World Building: There are only three main locations in this book, and all feel part of the same universe. None of them are too noteworthy, but more elaboration would have distracted from the story.
Romance: This is definitely an "instalove" story, and the relationship is more possessive than passionate. It works for this story and fitting for a dark romance.
Spice: This is definitely a 4.5/5🌶, but there are some scenes in the second act that are not willing encounters. Reader beware.
Errors and Consistency: There are a few punctuation and preposition errors here and there, but nothing that took me out of the story.
Overall experience: Based on the other two books by the author on Amazon, I believe they are still trying to find their writing groove. This is 80% there, and has all the bones of a great suspenseful dark romance. That being said, it definitely should have been workshopped more. Pacing, character development of the MMC, and the rough transitions between acts could be improved.
3.5⭐️ 4.5🌶

This book is not just spicy — it is full Scoville scale, sweat-on-your-neck, fan-yourself immediately heat. 🌶️🔥 But what surprised me most? The plot is plotting. Under all that intensity is a tightly woven story about power, control, corruption, and the masks people wear to survive.
Simon is calculated, manipulative, and layered — the kind of character who gives with one hand while quietly taking with the other. Phoenix operates without moral restraint, hiding behind both a literal and figurative mask while facilitating dark, elite entertainment for The Sect.
And then there’s Roni.
She was the standout for me. Watching her growth — from wide-eyed and unaware to stepping into her own strength — was powerful. For anyone who questions whether male authors can write strong female characters… this is your answer. Roni’s journey felt raw, authentic, and empowering.
Be warned: this story does not soften the edges. It tackles heavy, dark themes head-on with gritty intensity. Please check trigger warnings before diving in. It’s harrowing at times, but intentionally so.
What kept me hooked was the tension beneath everything — the slow cracking of masks, the shifting power dynamics, the question of who is really in control. Love becomes dangerous. Trust becomes weaponized. And survival means seeing beyond the illusion.
I devoured this in one sitting and I’m already impatient for the next installment.
If you enjoy dark romance with depth, morally grey characters, masked identities, age gap, forced proximity, and high emotional stakes — this will absolutely be for you.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ 5 out of 5 spice
Simon Says absolutely ruined me. Respectfully.
This book grabbed me by the throat and did not let go. From the very beginning I was locked in, uncomfortable, curious, and fully aware that I was making questionable life choices by continuing. And yet I could not stop.
SB Rogue does not write stories you casually enjoy. This is the kind of book that crawls into your head, rearranges things, and leaves you staring at the wall wondering what just happened and why you liked it so much. The manipulation, the obsession, the masks, the constant feeling that nothing is what it seems had me spiraling in the best dark romance way possible.
Every reveal made things worse. And better. And more confusing. I kept telling myself I would stop after one more chapter and then suddenly the book was over and I was sitting there emotionally wrecked, aroused, and questioning everything. This book is toxic, addictive, and impossible to look away from.
The spice is intense. The tension is suffocating. The psychological pull is unreal. I loved it and I absolutely need therapy after reading it.
Please read the trigger warnings. I mean it. Do not go in blind unless you enjoy emotional damage. If you do enjoy emotional damage, welcome, this book will feel like home.
I devoured this, immediately wanted more, and am still thinking about it long after finishing. Five stars, five spice, and a standing appointment with my therapist.
You're going to have to stick with me for this one. This book promised me a dark romance. At 30% through the book, I got a romance with the male characters of "The Sect" doing some questionable things. With the shopping list of TWs at the beginning (which I don't read because of spoilers), I was expecting so much more to happen other than the few spicy times going on. But, I'm a good girl and I loved the story so I kept on reading. At 40% in, things took a drastic turn and got a bit dark for a brief amount of time. Then it was like a switch flipped, and I was reading a completely different story. The FMC, Roni, started out the beginning of the story as a shy, introverted barista. After a traumatic event in the middle of the book, her personality completely changed and she became this sexy cam girl vixen to cope with her trauma. It didn't really make sense to me how her personality flipped on a dime. She now has an obsessive, stalker fan called Simon. Her husband, Phoenix, whom she met in the first half, is very protective of her but also keeping secrets from her. This book reads like two books mashed into one. It's not necessarily a bad thing; it was just very disjointed. It was a spicy good time, and I had fun trying to figure out if Phoenix was going to figure out who Simon was and how everything was going to pan out.
I received this arc from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Simon Says by SB Rogue is gritty, dark, perverse, and wholly spellbinding. I enjoyed this book very much. Our FMC is atypical of most in the genre - shes thick and curvy, isn't an instant heroine, and finds outlets and a personality outside of the 'I love to read and I'm so bookish' trope.
There is an instant-attraction element between the FMC & MMC, but it's done well, isn't forced, and doesn't illicit the eye rolls I inadvertently deliver whilst reading contemporary romance.
This book feeds upon the common fears we as women (but really, humans) have of strangers, dark woods, sharing too much online, and 'creepy vibe, predator' behavior. SB Rogue doesn't hold his punches when he describes the absolute horror show that occurs at The Abbey. Trigger warnings should be taken seriously because this series is being built on a significant human trafficking narrative, and in the era of Jeffrey E., The Island, and Lolita Express, we can no longer believe these things happen only in fiction. We're seeing otherwise.
All that being said, this book is incredible. The ending is twisted, redemptive, and kick butt after hundreds of pages of the worst of human behavior. I CANNOT wait for the rest of the series and Mercy's story.
SB Rogue did Roni and Phoenix's story incredibly well. Thank you for allowing me to read this book. Best of luck with the rest of the series. You have a new fan!
I had a really interesting reading experience with this one
The story starts off fairly calm, with Roni working at a coffee shop and slowly getting to know Phoenix. I actually enjoyed those early moments because you get to see their dynamic build little by little. But then the story suddenly takes a very dark turn when Roni is kidnapped. That whole section was intense and definitely sets the tone for the darker side of the book.
After she escapes with Phoenix’s help, the story shifts quite a bit. For me it almost felt like the book had two different sides to it. I actually enjoyed both parts individually, but the transition between them felt a little abrupt at times and I found myself wishing for a bit more connection between those two halves of the story.
That being said, I really liked the characters. Roni especially stood out to me — her growth throughout the story was strong and I loved seeing her slowly reclaim her power.
Phoenix is still a bit of a complicated character for me. I’m not completely sure how I feel about him yet, especially considering how he handled certain things.
Overall this was a solid dark and obsessive romance with plenty of smut and some very dark themes, so definitely check the trigger warnings before diving in.
This book starts slowly with a buildup of our main characters getting to know each other while Roni works at a coffee joint. They are slowly hitting it off with each other and than. Roni is kidnapped, tortured, prepped for s3xual acts and traumatized by a masked sadistic captor. She managed to escape that live with the help of Phoenix. At this point of the book the story takes a drastic turn. At this point it feels like two stories that not completely belong together are smashed into one book. The shift in the story doesn't feel natural. I understand that all people have a different coping mechanism with dealing with trauma, but for me this was a bit of a stretch. I liked both sides of the book separately, but not together. Also how Phoenix is keeping the big secret in the second halve of the book is not how I would have handled. I really enjoyed the strong dark opening part of the book and both characters are written well and have enough depth to be believable in their actions. I truly think that if the swift was more natural this book deserved a 4 star review while now it got stuck at 3 stars. I now missed a connecting piece.
As expected, SB has my mind in a tailspin. I devoured this once I actually just dove in. (Sorry SB.. Still mildly reeling from Birthday Presence). Roni makes my heart happy in so many ways. She's cautiously nervous of the silver fox obviously drooling over her, and then fate puts him in her path at the right moment, for Roni anyway. She gets a taste of happiness, then BAM trauma! But my girl takes her power back in a way that's close to how I handled my own. Ever unknowing of danger, she gets saved again, without knowing how close she was to everything going sideways. Phoenix?... I have a love and hate relationship with this man. I am absolutely and entirely here for how he cares for and loves Roni, it's just everything else about him that is icky. Bonus points to you SB for confusing me on how exactly a character makes me feel. Can't understand why I'm stoked for the Sect to continue... The amount of spice in this was perfect for is dark romance readers, and it hits amazingly! The plot is twisted and wildly engaging... Just.. I wanna dig through your mind. Can't wait to see what's up next!
