Breathe Easy with Me: A Steamy Second Chance Workplace Romance with Humour, Bite, and Bad Decisions

Rate this book
Helen Hewitt is late for everything — except the one mistake she never quite escaped.

Tristan Johnson – brilliant, disciplined, emotionally unavailable – taught her surrender, control, and the dangerous relief of being fully seen.

After their whirlwind together, Helen walks away with a shattered heart and the painful realisation that wanting more doesn’t mean he’ll ever be able to give it to her.

When a too-good-to-refuse, board-level HR role at a glossy Mayfair firm lands in her lap, Helen tells herself it’s just business. Until she steps into the marble lobby and comes face to face with the devil she’s been Tristan Johnson, Head of Legal.

Forced into close quarters, old rituals flare back to life – the sharp commands, the chemistry, and the way he reads her better than anyone. But this time, Helen isn’t the woman who’ll swallow her feelings to keep him comfortable. She has a career on the line and no intention of letting him decide what she’s allowed to want.Breathe Easy with Me is a darkly tender, high-heat London office romance with dry humour, about power, consent, second chances, and the courage it takes to ask for more.

Elle is a British contemporary romance author who writes about the power, desire and the ordinary moments that quietly change everything. Her stories lean into emotional tension and sharp dialogue, with a dry sense of humour threaded through the messier parts of modern love.

realistic portrayal of relationships, would defo read again

I was made aware of this book by the author @📚The Midnight City | Writer but this is no way paid or expected. She just said I might enjoy it and advised me it was on Kindle Unlimited. There was no expectation to even review and this is likely a suprise to her too.

It was honestly a realistic read, and by that I mean the challenges the MMC and FMC face are very realistic to whag you’d find in real life including complaince and company gossip, without it being in your face.

The relationship build is also very realistic. It’s two people who have an initial relationship that is d/s and when it breaks down due to his lies and ability to commit and her wanting more. They end up in proximity to one another again and they try to mend that relationship while she’s guarded and he’s trying to work out how best to let his emotions out while also trying to work out what he wants.

In terms of spice there isn’t tones in the book considering its a d/s relationship at the start, its spanking mainly and then sex between them but its not particularly graffic in its detail. Its again, realistic and its why I give it 🌶️🌶️🌶️ because its on page around 2 pages or so for the encounter and some detail but not like you find in books like those by B J Alpha or Brynne Weaver. If you enjoy the likes of Suzie Tate, Layla Frost and Alina Jacobs, I feel you would really enjoy this.

The reason I gave it 4 stars is that I felt that sometimes the story could have gone somewhere and just didn’t at times. It didn’t hurt the story or stop me reading, and also, I felt that there was something missing towards the end which was more to do with the time skips I think. But again, its realistic which is the reason for it I suppose.

So overall, I enjoyed it, I would read it again. Therefore, I would recommend it 😊

Sometimes you just need that warm romance book

Here we go again another book read in less than 24 hours (possible around 12 hours) ...

I totally needed this book and i read it at the right time, you know when you just need that light cosy romance too give you that palate cleanser well this was it. I was laughing from page 1 and screenshotting the pages and sending it too my girl @Booksunderthestairs❤️‍🔥📚📖 saying doesnt this sound like us from the get go.
The main FMC is everything I needed and more she knows what she wants and doesnt shy or backdown from it (unless shes being a sub) the relationship between her and her best friend throught is everything and I love how this never changed in the book and how relatable they are too actual real life best friends.
The MMC is unhinged at the start when we see him being the Dom but this soon changes through out the book you understand why he was behaving the way he was and the fact he owns up to his mistakes and ends up being everything and more with the whole touch her and will die vibe.
The writing from this author @📚The Midnight City | Writer is so flowing you don't realise how far into the book you are till you've finished it and its 2:52am in the morning and your now up writing a review 🤣🥰

Please add this too your tbr for that comfort romance you just sometimes need 🥰

It mentions neon pink, trusting men on the internet who - (well, that’s an immediate no) and PornHub on page 1.
Safe to say I was hooked!

Iconic lines;
“We’re not grieving the loss; we are celebrating bin day”
“Funny is free. Therapy isn’t”
“Doom Daddy”
“Rock bigger than my future”

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
