The “Take Me to the King Mothers’ and Daughters’ Retreat” is an educational project. The idea for this project was originally established in 2012 during my personal spiritual journey. The retreat consists of a full day of activities to promote consciousness-awareness through ecospirituality, empowerment, community building and leadership through social justice activism. Although this retreat was originally designed as a program for Christian women of color, this special project is intended to serve as a blueprint for other women to replicate. The curriculum is for women of all ages, races, and classes to use as a guide in developing their own forums where women’s experiences are shared through the “Motherline.” It applies the pedagogy framework of Carole Shrewsbury’s theories about “Beyond the Walls.” Black Feminist and womanist thought adds to the critical thinking about African American women’s agency in changing patriarchal oppression.
