Getting to read an ARC of Neurovance was an honorary experience, and even though I may sound as a teen on crack, this review is 100% honest 🙌
My biggest regret is that I won’t be able to read it for the first time again 😢
Alexandra is one of my 100% hit authors because her books are whole-body experiences. Playlists, art, atmosphere, emotion - it’s never just reading, it’s immersion.
And the plots are so different from what we usually see in the genre, it’s just insane 🤯
As much as I was dying to read Neurovance, I took my time and only read with zero distractions (do yourself a favour and do the same).
And still it was too short 😭
Which is insane to say about a 600+ page book, but it never drags, it’s not slow, there are no unnecessary details. I could have read 600 more, but at the same time, it is perfect as it is 💙
And believe me, you do not see almost any of what’s going to happen coming, right to the very end.
With Alex it’s impossible to predict what kind of delicious you’re going to get, and somehow, Neurovance was even better than I anticipated 🥹
From the first page, I was in a chokehold.
No prologue, no intros.
No easing in.
You’re thrown straight into motion, and the intensity is immediate and relentless.
The playlist IS NOT an accessory, it’s part of the narrative.
It’s not a random selection of songs for the mood we are used to.
Each song is chosen for a reason, and the experience is genuinely incomplete without it. (Brace yourself for Ch68 btw 🫠)
The connection between the MMCs hits you in the face with how real it feels, with its innocence, purity, and emotional truth. You never doubt it, and the chemistry is palpable and intense. Even the smallest tender moments, gestures and smiles feel so real 🤍
And those kisses on the tip of the nose were one of my favourite details 🤍
“Somehow, he managed to always make those two syllables sound like music.
He made my name sound like poetry.”
The intimacy is written in such a uniquely-Alex way; it’s jaw-droppingly sensual and emotional, somehow different from the standard dark romance formula. It doesn’t feel repetitive, it doesn’t get old, and it’s insanely hot 🥵
Important thing for me was that the darkness is perfectly calibrated. Not depraved or performative, just dark enough to hurt and matter.
The ending made me cry for God knows how many chapters. Even though I sensed something like that would be coming, it didn’t prepare me for how emotional it was. I did not expect to cry my eyes out for the side character!! 😭
That final twist didn’t feel manipulative, it felt unexpected, but earned, and the ending was simply perfect 💜
Alexandra doesn’t just write books. She guarantees a very emotional experience, makes you ask questions and raises important matters. You read both Author’s Notes and End Notes because she actually talks to her readers. Her books do stand out and Neurovance is easily one of those you won't forget 😻
