1914. As the long summer draws to a close, the world finds itself at war. Across the continent the guns sound and sixteen year old Harry hears their call. Thrust into battle, he must struggle to survive, fighting the enemies of his country and a figure from his past, in this, the first book of the highly acclaimed, 'Western Front Series.'
Stuart Minor was born and raised in the rural county of Shropshire. Before becoming a professional writer he worked in a number of different trades and countries, seeing the world and doing everything from labouring to management. He has a degree in history and has been writing full-time since 2014 when he published his first novel: The Call of War. Since then he has seen considerable success, his series of sixteen books set in the First World War receiving high acclaim.
I took this book based on the reviews it had and i was not disappointed!! It starts off with the story of a young lad working in the mines and then his enlistment into the army and then his subsequent experience in the trenches of the front line of WW1.
I thought it may be a bit tame but i was wrong, Stuart Minor is a brilliant writer and has an obvious keen interest in WW1, i don't know his background but i would assume he is a historian of some sort with the amount of detail he goes into.
The story is very will written and you end up looking and hating certain characters and miss them when they die, as people do in wars!
A very good book and i can't wait to see what happens in the next one as this one finishes on a huge cliff hanger!
