They call me the Reaper, a shadow that strikes when least expected, dragging souls to the deepest depths of hell. Darkness has always been a comfort, a cold and familiar friend. Everyone I’ve ever loved has been torn from me, leaving me behind with only fury and the thirst for vengeance. I became relentless. Brutal. Untouchable. Feared in the world meant to be dominated by men.
Then he walked into the coffee bold, confident, a light in the darkest of nightmares. I knew, at that moment, he would be everything to me. He would be the light to guide me to the stars in the darkest of nights.
But what if our love, so forbidden, so fragile, isn’t enough? Our world is the polar opposite, and we were never meant to actually be something. What if the turn of events forces him to choose between me and everything that is right.
What if fate rips him away, too? What if I’m left alone...
Alaric
My world is made of shadows, murder scenes, whispered threats, and long nights chasing the monsters that haunt our streets. I’ve made a career out of catching killers, and I’ve never failed. Until now. This one’s different. He’s careful. Cold. Always two steps ahead. Every time I think I have him, he slips through my fingers like smoke. But in the middle of the chaos, there’s her.
The woman with striking green eyes and a quiet presence. She sits in the corner of the café, sipping her coffee and disappearing into her book. Never looking my way. And yet I can’t stop watching her. Wanting her.
When I finally get close enough to know her name, claim her as mine, fall absolutely head over heels for her, she does the unthinkable. Secrets surface and suddenly, the woman I thought I knew is the very type of criminal I seek to take down. She may not be the one that had me running in circles, but she's forbidden. I'm caught between my heart and my career.
But I’ve already decided, this world could burn to ash before I let her go.
Alaric one minute could be a big tough guy and the next he was melting for Celeste 😍. I liked the twist and turns and plot of this book. One minute I had chapters left and the next it's telling me I was at the end of the book 😭. Would recommend.

Review: If you are looking for a book with a very strong female lead this the book for you. I love it 🥰 @b.l.swernauthor did an amazing job yet again! Get it! The smut too 🫠🤤 I totally recommend! I absolutely love every book that she writes and the best thing is that this is a mafia romance much like the others but I love seeing a really good strong female lead and that is exactly what we get in this book! It is absolutely amazing. I cannot wait to see what else she has in store for us and other books. Thank you so much again for giving me this arc. I love to be on your team.
She’s the Reaper ruling the underworld; he’s the agent sworn to bring her down. But when their targets align, the only thing truly forbidden is staying away. ☕🩸
📖 Father, For I Have Sinned by B.L. Swern ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 🌶️🌶️🌶️.5 Dark Romance
Tropes 💼 Mafia boss x FBI Agent 🚫 Forbidden love ⚔️ Badass FMC 🛡️ Protective MMC ⚖️ Revenge ⛓️ Bondage Kink
Celeste — also known as The Reaper — became the head of the mafia after her father’s sudden death. Between ruling the underworld, managing his legitimate businesses, and investigating the truth behind his death, Celeste realizes that someone within her empire needs to be exposed.
During one of her routine coffee runs, she meets Alaric, an FBI agent investigating a string of murders involving strippers. What begins as a seemingly normal relationship quickly becomes complicated when one of the kidnapped women turns out to be one of Celeste’s girls — and Celeste always protects her own.
I loved this book! It gave me total Mindfck series vibes but felt a little less complicated. From the very first page, it had me in its grip and didn't let go.
Celeste is an absolute badass. She’s feisty, owns her power, and is exactly the kind of boss I aspire to be. She meets every challenge head-on and is smart enough to win even when she’s pushed into a corner.
Then there's Alaric. He has his own demons to battle, but he is such a top-tier book boyfriend. He is completely wrapped around her finger! He’s one of the best simps I’ve ever read and would genuinely do anything for her. Their chemistry is off the charts—the way she can only be vulnerable with him and the trust they build despite their lifestyles had me salivating for more.
The mystery in the plot really hooked me; I felt like I was in a Criminal Minds episode trying to figure everything out. It was so well thought out, though there were definitely moments that made me cry (iykyk).
My only heartbreak was the 3rd act breakup towards the end—it really ruined me because they had such a good thing going! I just wanted a little more of their lives together after the dust settled. All in all, a fantastic read that ties up the mysteries beautifully.
Thank you B.L. Swern for this ARC! I totally loved it.
If morally gray obsession is your love language, you need this.
I ate this up!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
An FBI agent. A mafia queen. Two morally gray souls who cannot stay away from each other.
Celeste is calculated, lethal, and fiercely protective. Alaric is dominant, controlled, and just as morally complicated. The chemistry between them is instant and impossible to ignore.
“I will go to the end of the world for you, Celeste. I will work with the devil if it means that I keep you forever.” 🥵
This is pure burn the world down energy. 🔥

🖤 Dark Romance 🖤 Mafia x FBI ❤️🔥 Instant attraction/obsession 🖤 Dominant MMC 🖤 Strong FMC
Dedication “For those who went through some F’d up 💩, same babe. Welcome to your villain era. Now be a good little reaper and turn the page.”~B. L. Swern I am becoming obsessed with these amazing dedications that authors come up with. The prologue starts with this quote and it sets up our FMC, Celeste, beautifully:
“The darkness chooses their sacrifice and turns them into the reaper. The blood under your skin turns cold and the craving for revenge erases the good parts of who you used to be. Your humanity slips until there’s nothing left and you're lost in the web of chaos and doom.”
Celeste Hansley is the new Heiress for the Italian Mafia. She exists in a world dominated by men who view women as weak—or worse, incapable of leading. She understands who she must become, a ruthless, brutal villain who will, “snatch your soul and destroy any chances for you to repent. [They] should be afraid of me as I’m the grim reaper here to collect.” She doesn’t disappoint and definitely earns the respect she is owed. I wouldn’t get in her way, because she’ll mow you down without a second thought. The MMC, Alaric Solace, an FBI profiler, who finds the monsters hiding in the shadows. He’s good at his job, making him a threat to most criminals. That is until Celeste and him crash into one another. He doesn’t know she’s the type of criminal he profiles, but when he finds out who she is, it's too late. He’s claimed her and will always put her first.
“Darkness recognizes darkness, darlin’. I would go to the end of this world and burn it all down if it meant that I could keep you at my side.” ~Alaric (swoon)
The plot centers on a "serial deleter" targeting strippers, claiming he is purging them of the demons possessing them. When one of Celeste’s girls, Samantha, is taken by the unaliver, Alaric and her worlds become completely enmeshed. Celeste will do whatever it takes to bring Samantha home, even if it means sacrificing herself. As lines blur, priorities shift, allegiances change. When the serial deleter strikes again, secrets are revealed, while identities are exposed. They live in a world where being morally grey isn't just a choice—it's the only way to survive. This story was well developed, allowing the reader to become lost within the world of Alaric and Celeste. I especially loved the subtle dig at the patriarchy. Alaric’s care and devotion for Celeste really stood out to me. He was so in tune with Celeste that he seemed to know what she needed before she did. It felt like a perfect representation of a Dom/sub dynamic. I do feel the author could have leaned more into the Dom/sub dynamic. With that said, what this author has created is great the way it is. If you like a strong FMC who proves her worth through violence and death. A MMC that’s the boss in the bedroom but her partner who always supports the role she fills in their world. Then you will fall in love with this book. Their relationship is the kind that people hope to find one day. This book is your next read.
“I’m the predator that slithers through the dark, that causes the hair on the back of your neck to stand up. The nightmares that keep you awake at night for the fear that you’ll be swallowed whole.”

Alright…I need a moment because this book was absolute chaos in the best way possible.
What started as a dark mafia romance quickly turned into a full-blown rollercoaster involving a serial killer investigation, mafia power struggles, betrayal from the most unexpected places, and a romance that somehow managed to survive all of it.
Celeste Hansley is exactly the kind of FMC I love reading about. She’s powerful, ruthless when necessary, fiercely protective of the people she considers family, and completely unapologetic about the position she holds. Watching her step fully into her role while dealing with betrayal, grief, and enemies on every side made her such a compelling character to follow.
And then there’s Alaric Solace. Lord help me, I’ve fallen in love 🥵 Former Navy SEAL. Supervisory Special Agent with the FBI. 6’2 with blue eyes and the kind of confidence that makes you understand why Celeste didn’t immediately tell him to get lost when he asked for her number.
Their dynamic was one of my favorite parts of the book. Both of them are strong personalities with dangerous worlds surrounding them, yet somehow they manage to find something real between the chaos. The chemistry, the banter, and the moments of genuine devotion between them made their relationship feel worth rooting for.
The plot itself does not slow down. At. All. You get: • a disturbing serial killer known as The Jawbreaker • mafia politics and revenge • betrayals that escalate into an all-out shootout • torture scenes that are not for the faint of heart • THE most savage revenge moments I’ve ever read
This story leans fully into the darker side of romance and crime, and it doesn’t pull its punches. But it also balances those darker elements with loyalty, devotion, and characters who would quite literally burn the world down for the people they love. By the time I reached the last quarter of the book, I found myself watching the percentage tick up and getting genuinely sad that I was almost done. That’s ALWAYS the sign of a great read for me!
Overall, this was a dark, intense, and incredibly entertaining story that kept me hooked from start to finish. If you enjoy dark mafia romances with high stakes, dangerous characters, and a plot that keeps throwing surprises your way, this one is absolutely worth picking up.

B.L. Swern has written an FMC that I would immediately want to become friends with! On top of that, the books’s storyline and romance had me hooked from page one. “Father, For I have Sinned” is a fast paced, intriguing, wonderful dark romance.
I typically talk about the characters first, but I am starting this one with the storyline because I enjoyed it so much. As we know, Alaric is a special agent for the FBI. The main case in this book is for a murdered nicknamed the Jawbreaker. This evil man is terrorizing woman working in a certain field and making them repent their sins. Alaric is the head detective on the case and is determined to rid this evil from the world. So, throughout the book we follow this case; which to me was very interesting. What made it even more interesting is was how things tied back to Celeste. Now, I won’t say more on that to avoid spoilers, but it is something I love and helped everything feel so well rounded.
So, as previously stated, Celeste is THAT woman. I knew I would like her from the beginning, but when she made high ranking military officers look like children, I fell in love. Celeste can be a complete badass, but also has a heart of gold when it comes to those she considers family. If you’re on her good side, you have her and an entire mafia that will protect you. Celeste had life thrown at her hard and fast, she took it with her head held high and a knife in her hand. She is feared among most, but to Alaric, she is the goddess whose feet he will worship at. It was beautiful to see this powerful woman be able to give up control and be vulnerable with Alaric. Together, they were a beautiful couple.
From the start, we see Alaric as this good man with intense motives. As we learn more about him, we see that he has his darkness too. One of my favorite things throughout this book was to watch his demons take over when it came to Celeste, both in the bedroom and in protecting her. I love Alaric’s utter obsession with Celeste, he had his eyes set on her and will not let her leave his side. He would literally hunt her across the world to be with her.
Overall, I recommend this book for the dark romance lovers! It has an interesting storyline, hot romance, amazing side characters, great character development, and so much more.
🌶️🌶️🌶️ Pepper percentage: 6.1% of the pages contain spicy content 19.5% of the chapters contain spicy content
Father, For I Have Sinned by B.L. Swern is dark, addictive, and emotionally devastating in the best possible way. This book grabbed me by the throat from the very first chapter and refused to let go.
Celeste is not your typical heroine. She is feared. Calculated. Ruthless. A woman who has survived unimaginable loss and turned herself into something sharp enough to survive in a world built to break her. The way her pain fuels her vengeance makes her both terrifying and heartbreakingly human. You understand her. You ache for her. And somehow you still root for her even when you probably should not.
Then there is Alaric. A man who lives in the gray, chasing monsters for a living while unknowingly falling in love with one. His internal conflict absolutely wrecked me. He is disciplined and morally driven, yet completely undone by the quiet woman in the corner of a café. Watching him fall so deeply, so sincerely, only to have the truth rip the ground out from under him was brutal in the best way.
The chemistry between them is electric but it is more than just attraction. It is longing. It is inevitability. It is two souls on opposite sides of a war colliding in a way that feels both forbidden and destined. Every scene between them carries tension, vulnerability, and this constant pulse of danger humming beneath the surface.
What makes this story unforgettable is the emotional weight. It is not just about good versus evil. It is about grief, survival, and what happens when love grows in the middle of chaos. The stakes are sky high. The secrets cut deep. And the question of whether love can survive when everything else is built to tear it apart keeps you turning pages long past bedtime.
B.L. Swern delivers a romance that is dark, passionate, and morally complex. If you love forbidden love, morally gray characters, cat and mouse tension, and a hero willing to let the world burn for the woman he loves, this book needs to be on your radar immediately.
Following the suspicious death of her father, Celeste has taken the throne as the Queen of the Italian Mafia. Despite her clear abilities to rule, many leaders in her alliance are hesitant about a woman’s abilities to assume power, but she is determined to show them how wrong they are. When a serial unaliver starts to target women who work at strip clubs, and one of her own employees is taken, she comes up with a plan to catch the man responsible. This doesn’t stop her from striking up a relationship with a handsome stranger she met in a coffee shop, and finding out he’s an FBI agent doesn’t take away from his appeal.
As a former Navy SEAL, Alaric has seen the worst of humanity, so when he left the Service under difficult circumstances, he found his way into the FBI in hopes of ridding the world of those who harm innocents. Now he finds himself working on a case involving missing strippers, and when it turns out the woman he’s falling for owns a strip club, he becomes even more determined to catch the killer before she falls prey to him as well. But little does he know, Celeste has a plan of her own, and refuses to let anyone else fight her battles.
I received an early copy of this book, and while it took me a few chapters to get into the story, once I did, I really enjoyed it. Celeste and Alaric share a connection that defies logic, but as we learn more about them, we see that their darkness is perfectly matched. While Celeste has focused her rage on vengence on those who have wronged the ones she loves, Alaric channels his rage into apprehending those who wrong others, his methods are just less illegal than hers. While the story itself was really good, there were a lot of inconsistencies in the writing (which may be a result of it being an ARC file), but at any given time, Alaric was referred to as an officer, FBI agent or detective, and often talked about both the precinct and headquarters. I really hope these were just elements awaiting editing, and that the final copy will be more consistent, as unfortunately it took away from the story a bit.
I absolutely devoured Father, For I Have Sinned by B. L. Swern.
From the very first chapter, this story sinks its claws into you and refuses to let go. It’s dark, gritty, emotionally intense, and dangerously addictive in the way only the best dark mafia romances are.
Celeste is the kind of FMC that completely commands the page. As the Reaper, she is ruthless, calculating, and feared in a world ruled by men, but beneath that brutal exterior is a woman forged by loss, grief, and an unrelenting thirst for vengeance. She isn’t just powerful; she’s complex, layered, and impossible not to root for.
Then there’s Alaric, an FBI agent whose life revolves around hunting monsters… only to find himself falling for one. Alaric is a true I will burn the world down for her MMC.
The true crime elements and investigation plotline add so much depth to the story. Every chapter pulls you deeper into a web of secrets, danger, and moral conflict. Just when you think you understand where things are going, the story tightens the knot even further.
And the chemistry? Absolutely undeniable.
The romance is forbidden, intense, and emotionally charged. The spice is perfectly placed and amplifies the tension rather than overshadowing the story. It feels raw, consuming, and completely in line with the characters and their dangerous world.
What truly makes this book stand out is how immersive it is. The writing pulls you into the shadows of Celeste’s world and the relentless pursuit that defines Alaric’s. It’s dark, emotional, and addictive in a way that makes it impossible to put down.
By the end, I was left completely obsessed with these characters and the journey they took me on.
If you love dark mafia romance with powerful heroines, forbidden love, morally gray tension, and high-stakes danger, this book absolutely delivers.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️ if loving her is a sin, he’ll burn for it
This read like S.T. Abby’s Mindf*ck series collided head on with a ruthless, steel spined mafia queen, and honestly… the combination works. Swern delivers a story that’s equal parts psychological tension, forbidden heat, and that delicious “I shouldn’t want you, but I do” feel.
The FMC is the standout here because she’s not just FIERCE, but ALSO strategic, lethal, and fully in command of her world. She’s the kind of woman who doesn’t just survive the underworld. She rules it. If you love a heroine who can outthink, outmaneuver, and out intimidate (is that even a word?!)every man in the room, she’s your girl.
The MMC brings that Mindf*ck adjacent vibe by being an investigator with a moral compass that starts spinning the second she walks into his life. He’s steady, protective, and torn between duty and desire in a way that adds real emotional weight. Their chemistry is slow burn, charged, and threaded with danger which is not overwhelming, but intentional.
What makes this shine is the cat and mouse tension, the layered secrets, and the way their worlds crash together with consequences neither of them can outrun. It’s dark, it’s addictive, and it scratches that itch for morally tangled romance without drowning the story in spice.
If you crave:
• Mindf*ck‑style psychological tension • A mafia boss FMC who is actually terrifying in the best way • Forbidden romance with teeth • Emotional stakes that hit harder than the heat
This dark romance had all the right ingredients on paper—mafia queen energy colliding with an FBI smoke show? Say less. And honestly, parts of it delivered. The FMC was undeniably a badass, but at times it felt like she was trying a little too hard to prove it, which took away from what could have been a more natural, commanding presence. Meanwhile, the MMC? Total dreamboat. Morally gray, dangerous, and exactly the kind of character you expect to carry a story like this—he understood the assignment. Where things started to fall apart was in the execution. The repeated chapters from different POVs didn’t add depth—they just made the story feel unnecessarily repetitive. Instead of building tension, it slowed everything down. On top of that, the plot felt overcrowded, like the author was trying to juggle too many ideas at once. It gave off a Colombiana meets Criminal Minds vibe, but with echoes of other dark romances that made it feel less original than it could have been. The writing itself had some distracting issues too—word repetition within the same sentence being one of them (a thesaurus would’ve gone a long way here). It’s a small thing, but it adds up over time and pulls you out of the story. The biggest letdown, though, was the ending. After all that buildup, it felt rushed and abruptly cut off, like the story just… stopped instead of actually concluding. That said, it wasn’t a total miss. The spicy scenes? Top tier. There’s definitely potential here, and moments that hit exactly right—it just needed tighter writing, more focus, and a smoother finish to really shine.
From the very beginning I was hooked. The FMC quickly became one of my favorite heroines. She is fierce, powerful, and completely unapologetic about what she deserves. At the same time she’s compassionate and deeply loyal to the people she cares about. Watching how cunning and strategic she was throughout the story made her incredibly fun to follow.
The MMC brings the perfect contrast. He’s broody, protective, and carries a dark past that shapes who he is. Beneath that rough exterior, though, he loves hard and would burn the world down for the woman he cares about.
Their relationship develops fast, intense, and full of tension. The attraction between them is immediate, and the chemistry only grows stronger as their worlds begin to collide.
The plot itself kept me completely invested. There are twists and turns throughout the story that made it impossible to stop reading because I needed to know what was going to happen next.
One of my favorite things about this book was how empowering it felt. The women in this story are strong, capable, and never portrayed as helpless. Even when the situation becomes dangerous, the FMC faces it head-on and proves again and again that she is more than capable of saving herself.
By the end of the book I realized something very simple: I want to be her when I grow up.
This one is definitely worth picking up!!! ✨️Release date: March 16, 2026 ✨
Forgive me, because I devoured this in one sitting.
Father, For I Have Sinned by B.L. Swern is dark, addictive, and wrapped in the kind of forbidden tension that makes you feel like you should be looking over your shoulder while reading it.
This book thrives on angst and emotional intensity. The chemistry? Immediate. Charged. The kind that hums under every interaction like a live wire. The push and pull between the main characters had me gripping my Kindle like it personally offended me.
What I loved most was the emotional depth layered beneath the taboo themes. It is not just shock value. There is vulnerability, inner conflict, and a steady unraveling that makes the relationship feel consuming rather than surface-level scandal.
The spice sits at a solid 3 out of 5. It is steamy and satisfying, but the real star is the tension. Every almost-touch, every lingering look, every whispered word carries weight. It is less about explicit overload and more about slow, deliberate temptation.
If you love: • Forbidden romance • Moral gray conflict • Intense emotional connection • A story that feels slightly dangerous
This one will absolutely hit.
Five stars because it delivered exactly what it promised and kept me completely hooked from start to finish. I closed the book and just stared at the wall for a minute.
This was an ARC read provided by author Spoilers Ahead
4/5 Darkness 3/5 Spicy
Pros: Much of the book is well written Strong Badass FMC MMC is obsessive and falls hard Has spice Mafia leader is female
Cons: Rushed ending Pacing and congruency
Review: This book had so much potential but fell short for me. The FMC being a mafia leader really had my attention but her character seemed somewhat far fetched and lacking at the same time. Her strong independence was nice to read but at times it felt like she was a bit overdone. At the same time, her weakness for supporting other women specifically “midnight ballerinas” isn’t really backed by any character development yet we are told multiple times how they are just trying to support their kids and she has so much empathy for them. The MMC could have used more character development on his history and background. Other side characters had some background and development that lead nowhere in the end. Another character being the villain should have probably had more development. With little mention throughout the book it was still obvious their boss was going to be involved.
Pacing and congruency seemed a bit off throughout. At times I struggled to want to keep reading. There were areas that didn’t flow and I assume were added or rewritten during editing. It almost seemed like they were added to help fill or fix plot holes and seemed to stick out. Several plot points seemed to be predictable for me. The ending seemed a bit rushed trying to make a clean wrap up of what happened. The ending could have been better had there been more character development with Director Stevens.
Overall the book has an interesting storyline and many parts of the book are well written. I wanted to like it a little more than I did. I would read another book by this author to see if I like their other works.

I loved this book from beginning to end. There was so much going on it kept me entertained and on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Celeste is now the head of the Italian mafia after the passing of her father. I know what you are thinking...a female in a male dominated world. But have no fear, Celeste was born for this role. She is a bad ass who doesn't take kindly to those who doubt her. She also has a secret soft spot for those closest to her but she will never admit it. She is thrown into this world, forced to not only deal with the other rival organizations but a step family undermining her every chance they can. As if her world wasn't complicated enough...in comes Alaric.
Alaric is an ex Navy Seal now FBI agent who is career focused and driven. Since joining the FBI he has made a name for himself solving some of the most difficult cases. He meets his match when the "Jawbreaker" case comes across his desk. Running out of time, leads and patience...he doubts they will every get a break when he crosses path with Celeste and everything changes.
If you love a book with suspense, morally grey characters, secret desires and kinks, steamy/spicy scenes, murder, emotional turmoil and more...this is definitely the book for you.
My first ever book by B.L Swern and boy did it take me for a ride. I devoured this book. This book is filled with darkness, vulnerability and drama but worth the read. Celeste was one bad bitch. She the heir to the most deadly Mafia around. She well respected and will do whatever to protect the people she cares about. After he father death she starts questioning what happened. Will she be able to figure it out before something terrible happens. Then you have Alaric the fbi agent who falls heads over heels for the badass Celeste. His work was everything to him until he meets the beautiful deadly Celeste. Along with their love story unraveling there’s a serial killer on the loosing targeting woman who he thinks has sinned. Can Alaric finds him before he sets his sites on Celeste. I loved everything about this book. The plot twist had me an emotional wreck. How can one person endure that much pain. This book is steamy and will have you hyped up. What happens when the one man who owns Celeste heart finds out she the mafia queen. Will he choose her or his love for his job. Guess you will have to read it to find out. Please check your trigger warnings as this book hits some dark triggers. I will definitely be reading more of her books.
Father, For I Have Sinned is a mafia queen + FBI agent romance which sounded like it was going to be incredible- and it absolutely was! This one follows the main characters hunting a brutal killer when they find themselves pulled into a dangerous attraction just as their secrets and loyalties start to collide.
Celeste was such a great FMC. She takes over running the Italian mafia after her dad dies and she’s not about to let anyone question whether she deserves that spot. She’s tough, smart, and fully capable of handling anyone who doubts her. But she’s also really loyal to the people she cares about, which made me like her even more. I would absolutely want to be friends with her! Alaric is the FBI agent who absolutely should not be getting involved with someone like Celeste. His whole job is hunting criminals, so obviously falling for a mafia queen complicates things a lot. Once he decides he’s into her though, he’s all in, and I loved that energy.
Celeste and Alaric together are intense and honestly perfect for each other even though their worlds shouldn’t mix at all. If you like dark romance, morally gray characters, mafia drama, and relationships that feel a little dangerous, this one is a really fun read!
I have no notes about this book. Woman in power holding everything together? Check. Man being extra supportive and making sure she feels safe to let her control go? Check. Spicy scenes? Check. Good old fashioned murder mystery whodunit that actually was a worse than I thought with more red flags than I could imagine? Check.
Celeste being able to let Alaric in enough at first to be just a woman in love despite her trauma and upbringing proved why she is a force to be reckoned with. She takes care of her own. She's a girl's girl and treats her employees like her own family. She's not afraid to get her hands dirty to take care of business or force the eyes of a serial unaliver on her to keep others out of harms way.
Alaric having that black cat energy but somewhat also golden retriever vibes made this a perfect match. His darkness called out to hers and hers answered. He let his demons out to play for hurting what's his and I was all for it. Plus he likes to tie her up and frankly, yes please.
Father, For I Have Sinned made me actually want to hope for a meet-cute with a badass FBI agent who ties me up and tells me I can take it like a good girl.
This book was so good.. So much happened but it kept me hooked. I was not expecting who was involved in the Kidnapping and Stealings of drops. But the ending me so happy.
Celeste is one bad chick. She was done wrong and made sure everyone got what they deserved. She was the Mafia Heir, respected by all. But she also has a soft spot for those she loves and cares about. What she went through during this book made me love her. She is one tough queen who doesn’t let anyone get in the way. She will protect those who matter to her even if it means her life ending.
Alaric……Now he is a delicious man candy. A FBI agent that is married to his work. Until he meets Celeste than everything changes. Who knew that man was obsessive, possessive, and Dominant. My book boyfriend list just got one extra man and he is close to the top. I love how he loves and how serious he takes his job.
This will be one book that I will remember. I was happy, I yelled at Celeste a few times and at Alaric. But I also felt sad for what they each go through.
B.L. Swern really has done it again!! Father, I Have Sinned was sooo good. The chemistry between these MC’s is really off the charts.
Celeste is an absolute badass stepping in as head of the Italian Mafia and every time someone questions her she basically hits them with an “ok, bet.” Watching a woman in power prove men wrong never gets old!
And then there’s Alaric a military turned FBI and very much the walking definition of “yummy” & “yes, daddy”. He knows exactly what he wants, partner warnings be damned. Once he’s locked in on Celeste? It’s game over. He’s just down bad ❤️
Their loyalty to the people they love has them making some wild choices but that’s exactly what makes them balance each other out. Crime vs law / chaos vs order, then add in mafia drama, serial killer, forbidden tension, and some very spicy moments 👀 🥵🔥and you’ve got a book that’s basically impossible to put down.
Highly recommend if you like your romance with danger, drama, and a side of “this could go horribly wrong.”

Everything about this book completely pulled me in. The two main characters are morally gray in the best way. Celeste is an absolute force, confident, ruthless when she needs to be, and completely unapologetic about how she handles things. She takes care of business without worrying about anyone’s approval. Alaric, on the other hand, is a total cinnamon roll at heart but don’t let that fool you. The moment there’s a threat to Celeste, he wouldn’t hesitate to step in. What I love most, though, is that Celeste doesn’t need saving. She can handle herself just fine. Both characters carry dark, hidden pieces of themselves, and those shadows complement each other beautifully. The story is filled with drama, tension, and emotional depth. You can feel the pain, the sorrow, and the fierce devotion woven through every page. It delivers everything I look for in a dark romance intensity, complexity, and characters who aren’t afraid to embrace their darkness. I’m already excited to see what this author does next, especially with some of the other characters!
Celeste becomes a badass mafia leader after her dad’s sudden passing, and she takes no crap from anyone. Alaric is an ex-military man turned FBI agent working a tough case. When they meet, the sparks definitely fly.
This book was on it from start to finish—no downtime at all! If you loved The Mindf*ck Series, this has a similar vibe while still being completely its own story.
I 10/10 recommend picking this up ASAP when it comes out this month!
I could honestly go on and on about this book! I devoured 68% of it in one sitting and immediately finished the rest the next day because I could not put it down.
If this isn’t already on your TBR and these tropes are your thing… seriously, what are you waiting for?! 👀🔥 Go ahead and add it now, because this is one you’re going to want to pick up the second it releases. 📚
✨ Tropes: • Mafia Romance • Good Guy / Bad Girl • Bondage Kink • Forbidden Love • Revenge
Finally a 5 star for the month! Mark your calendars, 3/16 Isn't a date to forget.
She’s the head of the Italian Mafia, Celeste, and he’s a special agent in the FBI, Alaric. One of my favorite things about this book is that it wasn’t the main characters against each other like in many other books. Their paths cross but he’s not actively investigating her directly. Alaric gives golden retriever energy when around Celeste but when they get behind closed doors he definitely has a darker side when it comes to spicy time 🌶️. Celeste is an absolute badass!!!!! I love everything about her! There is also a twist in the end that I didn’t see coming until it basically happened. I love when I can’t see something coming from a mile away!!
Definitely recommend this book as a read!
Trigger warnings for: Abuse, Murder, explicit sexual scenes including being tied up, kidnapping, torture, drugging, and using religion as an excuse for actions.
I was lucky enough to get a advanced reader copy of Father for I have sinned No Spoilers ; First let me say omg I loved it 5 stars for sure a must read and please read ur triggers ! Celeste is a bada## for sure she overcomes so much right from the start ..she endures a hugh loss an really steps up ..she accidentally meets Alaric an fbi agent working withing local police station ..hes quite the guy let me tell ya kind an earring..shes on an investigation that intertwins with Celeste..Celeste works her magic as only a woman can takes control and serves the best dish served cold revenge ..she is the best lil Reaper ..and my person favorite I couldn't put this doen nore did I want to ..shes tuff and shows no fear with ties to the mafia a must read ..it will have u on edge of ur seat ..ive found a new author to add to my list of must reads and must haves ..thank you B.L Swern for allowing me to read and before intertwined in this new world an new love for mafia books
Celeste is not soft. She is not redeemable in the way people expect heroines to be. She is grief, vengeance, and survival sharpened into something deadly.
And Alaric? A man who should’ve stopped her… but instead chose her.
That’s what makes this book hit so hard. It’s not just romance -- it’s moral collapse wrapped in devotion.
Every moment between them feels like standing on the edge of something catastrophic… and still leaning forward.
This is not fluffy. This is not safe. This is “I will burn the world for you and call it love.”
Father, For I have Sinned is a dark romance featuring the FMC as the head of the mafia and the MMC a FBI agent. There's also a serial killer on the loose and lots of betrayal in the mafia.
I really loved the FMC and the strength and sacrifices she made for her people. It was very bada$$! The forbidden romance between the mafia queen and fbi agent was HOT!
While I absolutely loved the entire premise of this book, I felt that there was a lot going on and maybe too many tropes. Like I love a chaotic story with unhinged characters but it was a little hard to keep up and almost felt like the last half could have been another book/another story.
But if you love absolute chaos and the forbidden dynamic of a bada$$ mafia queen and fbi agent with a serial killer on the loose, this ones for you!!
Thank you BL SWERN for this ARC in exchange for my honest review!
The Reaper, the FBI agent, and the Jawbreaker….. Father, for I have sinned was an epic thrill ride. Buckle up, babes, because once this story starts, it sinks its teeth in and doesn’t let go. The twists and turns it takes will leave your jaw on the floor. Its themes are definitely dark, but I devoured this book like candy. Celeste is the ultimate mafia boss baddie with a dark side. Alaric, a top-notch FBI agent and a kink for bondage. Both are on the hunt for the Jawbreaker, but for different reasons. When Celeste and Alaric meet by chance, there’s an instant chemistry neither can deny. When these two come together, watch out - their connection and passion for each other are unmatched. If you're into dark romance with a strong, independent FMC and MMC who's willing to burn it all down for his lady, with true crime suspense vibes, definitely check this out. You won’t be disappointed.
I got my hands on a copy and I'm obsessed! B.L Swern's new dark romance has it all - mafia queens, FBI agents, and a dash of coffee. Celeste, aka The Reaper, is on a mission to take down those who wronged her family. With her step family, rival mafia, and the FBI against her, she's got her work cut out. When she meets Alaric at a coffee shop, it's chaos. Literally. Coffee everywhere. But amidst the chaos, a killer's on the loose, targeting women he thinks are demons. As Celeste navigates her role and tries to protect her assets, she gets close to Alaric. But can their relationship survive their opposing worlds? 5/5 Stars ⭐️
🔪 FBI Agent X Mafia Queen 🔪 Spicy scenes with a special room 🔪 Dark Romance 🔪 Burn the world down
Y'ALL! 🥵🥵🥵🥵 I was lucky enough to get my hands on this for an ARC read and let me tell you, this did not disappoint! Celeste is one badass FMC, she's the heiress to her fathers mafia empire and when the role is suddenly thrown her way she feels the role and than some... somewhere alone the way she literally runs into Alaric who happens to be an FBI agent with secrets himself and the chemistry between them is instant. with the odds stacked between them due to there lines of work with they be able to come out on top or with they destroy each other?! this book is set to release march 16th, 2026.
If you love •Forbidden Romance •Moral Gray Conflict •A Story that feels dangerous this is for you! I could not put this book down you will not be disappointed!
