Bryan Norton's adventure continues as an attempt on his life prompts the crew of Independence to search the universe for a hidden adversary, one intent on their destruction. An unexpected appearance leaves Bryan at odds with his female companions as a new alien female captures his attention, and the crew adds to their ranks due to a fortuitous alteration in the Galactic definition of what it means to be human.
Easy to read and well-balanced between violence, found family and sex. Also the different races and the historical involvement of aliens in the afares of human history. The only real issue was the scope of the adventures. Not a section of the galaxy or all of it. The author used the whole known universe like we would the high-speed distance between cities. That was hard to envision. Still, while only moderately complex in the depth of storytelling, it was entertaining and left a good impression.
What Happens When You Add an Aging, Dying Marine Sgt To an Alien Space Crew? Adventure, That's What!
If the crew of Independence were scared of Brian's rescue tactics with his Marine Kabar knife & blood bath, they didn't know what to expect when Master Sergeant, Theresa, "T" had ship's engineer fabricate throwing knives and explosive charges for their missions!! More sci-fi, more adventures in book 3 of C.W. Lamb's Starship Independence ensue here. Some quite unexpected too.
I love that each book is picking up where the last left off. The characters and their interactions give these stories such a personable touch. The teasing jokes, the grumpiness of Zaim, even Smokey, join together to show why this disparate group can work effortlessly as a team.
Sometimes the main characters can be overpowered or 'Super' it's fun - drama - and tiny bit sexy. Ready for another episode, CW! Thanks for this one and all the previous!
