A Devil’s Halo Rockstar Romance Book Four – The Final Act Hayden Sloane doesn’t lose control. Not on stage. Not in life. Not ever. Until her. Twelve years later, one chance encounter changes everything. And this time, she’s the one setting the rules. But some things never change: the chemistry, the pull, the way he still wants her. But, what they had was never the problem. What tore them apart still is. And this time? Walking away might not be an option.

"I missed this. Not just wanting her, but being with her. The realization hits harder than I expect. Because somewhere between coffee and bookstores and accidentally holding her hand like it’s the most natural thing in the world, this stopped feeling like nostalgia. It feels present and real. Dangerously real."
Hayden is the mysterious bass player in Devil's halo. Most people know the surface level of control people see on stage, but there's people like his first love Vanessa that know how deep that control goes. After 10 years apart, these two run into each other and the chemistry is just as hot as before. However, pulling back on the controlled life that Hayden has built around him may come down when Vanessa becomes more than just the one that got away.
DADDY HAYDEN IS IN THE BUILDING! This man gives Luc (in Devil's Muse) a run for his money! I have been curious about Hayden since the beginning. He is quiet, observant and always very controlled in everything he does. Vanessa is the only woman to ever break down his walls and love him for him...until it became too much and she chose herself. I love a second chance romance like this one! Feelings haven't changed but they are falling in love with the new versions of each other! Seeing this series come to an end is so bittersweet! Falling in love with all these characters was so easy but there is something so special to me about Hayden and Vanessa... this was very much "right person wrong time" but find themselves back to each other?! PERFECT!
Rockstar romance, "He never got over her", Second chance romance, Longing, 1st person POV, dual
A deliciously emotional read with a hint of possession that will keep you entranced from cover to cover. I’ve loved every other book in this series of standalones and this one did not disappoint! The chemistry from these 2 were fabulous and the accountability from both was refreshing! Absolutely 5 stars Michelle!
Hayden Sloane doesn’t lose control. Not on stage. Not in life. Not ever.
Until Vanessa.
Vanessa Caldwell was the only woman who ever saw the truth behind his control and walked away from it.
Not because she didn’t love him, but because she refused to lose herself to it.
Twelve years later, one chance encounter changes everything. And this time, she’s the one setting the rules.
But some things never change: the chemistry, the pull, the way he still wants her.

What tore them apart still is.
And this time?
Walking away might not be an option.

Devil’s Bass is the fourth book in Michelle Windsor’s Devil’s Halo Series. It is a Devil’s Halo rockstar romance and the epic conclusion to the stunning series. “Your Soundtrack to Domination and Devotion.”
I have to start with that dedication. It really hit me in the feels. For me, it perfectly sums up not only this book but the entire series, and Michelle saved the perfect dedication for the final book.
“This is for you. You know who you are. The girl that makes her way up to the front of the crowd so you can be right next to the band. The girl that knows the word to every song and sings them loud. The girl that knows every person’s name in the band. The girl that dances like no one is watching. Never stop being that girl.”
Now, on to the book itself. Let me say this: after finishing this book, I am far from OK. “Devil’s Bass” had me crying on several occasions, and it wasn’t pretty crying; it was ugly, fierce crying.
I have been in love with this entire series since reading the first book, and I haven’t been able to get enough since then. “Devil’s Bass” is a chef’s kiss of a finale. I’m heartbroken that this stunning series has come to an end, but I’ll never regret reading this amazing rockstar romance.
Michelle Windsor has this ability to write stories and series that pull you in, enthrall you, make you care about all the characters, and leave you wanting more.
With ‘Devil’s Halo’ now coming to an end, my heart's shattering, and I’m left wanting more of the characters that I’ve come to call my friends. I want to know what happens to all these characters, where they go, and what they end up doing next.
Hayden has been in control, quiet, intense, and observant. Then Vanessa comes strolling back into his life after 10 years and stirs up the emotions he thought he’d buried long ago.
Hayden and Vanessa truly had to go on a journey to find their HEA. The other characters from the previous books were part of their story, and Michelle did a perfect job of showing found family, second chances, and how a love once left unfinished can blossom when reunited.
I found “Devil’s Bass” to be well balanced with all the emotion, the secret club, and the spice (and that’s fan-worthy). The connection between Hayden and Vanessa is magnetic, and you can feel the chemistry oozing off the page. The way that Hayden and Vanessa handle the past trauma and manage to heal (man, did I ever cry), and then I found myself laughing at the banter not only between Hayden and Vanessa but also among the entire group. This is absolutely perfect.
I loved learning why Hayden is so quiet, direct, and lost in his own world. He’s always been mysterious, and I loved finally getting his book. Man, oh man, was it ever a journey.
I have to admit that the addition of the Guild was surprising. I read a lot of dark romance and a lot of BDSM, but “Devil’s Bass” was light on both accounts, and I love that this book is accessible for readers who normally don’t read dark romances or BDSM.
I do have to say that I recommend reading the entire ‘Devil’s Halo’ series in order. Yes, they are all standalone books, and each character has their own story. But there is also a group dynamic that grows and changes throughout the series, and, in my opinion, the read is much more enjoyable when you read it in order. I recommend you start with book 1, “Devil’s Muse,” and go from there.
This entire series speaks to my heart and my soul!
A few of my favorite quotes are:
"I missed this. Not just wanting her, but being with her.
The realization hits harder than I expect. Because somewhere between coffee and bookstores and accidentally holding her hand like it’s the most natural thing in the world, this stopped feeling like nostalgia. It feels present and real. Dangerously real."
“Vegas glows brightly beneath us. The city stretches for miles outside the floor-to-ceiling windows of the private rooftop venue Devil’s Halo just finished destroying in the best possible way. Neon lights bleed into the desert night while music still pounds from somewhere below the lower levels of the casino.”
“A quiet laugh escapes me. God, I love this woman. The realization still hits me out of nowhere sometimes. Not softly either, but like a collision. Like my life split into before Vanessa and after. And man, the after is so much better than I could have imagined.”
“Luc catches my eye from across the rooftop. It’s just one look. And because he knows me better than almost anyone alive, I know without a doubt he understands exactly what I’m thinking.
His expression softens almost imperceptibly before he lifts his champagne glass toward me in a silent mutual cheer; my brother. Always. Emotion presses against my ribs, in the best way, and I think it means my heart is full. Christ, when did I become this sentimental?”
“Standing here, surrounded by the people who somehow became my family, I realize something monumental. For the first time in my life I’m not wondering what comes next, because where I am right now is utterly perfect.”
This was my least favorite read in the series. I was so hyped to finally get Nessa and Hayden's story, only to end up disappointed. Hayden reconnects with her at an adult club after a decade, and while he craves control, Nessa wants to explore being a sub in a safe way. I visualize everything when I read, and I could do that for about the first 10% of the book before everything went flat. The constant repetition didn't help either. I kept hearing the same things over and over in an increasingly annoyed voice in my head. It took me days to write this review because forcing myself through this book officially put me into a reading slump. I've read steamy romances set in adult clubs before, and compared to those, the steam here was boring AF. And Hayden buying her flowers because they were his late sister's favorite? Wtf, bro?
The second-chance romance didn't work for me either, especially with the third-act breakup. Why? Because Hayden spent 98% of the book keeping Nessa a secret. I can relate to Nessa a lot because I've been in her shoes, and it's not fun at all. Their relationship felt less like a partnership and more like control disguised as protection. It honestly seemed like Hayden learned nothing from their college relationship and took way too long to realize he loved her. I empathize with his grief since I also lost a sibling in December to a tragic accident, and I know how hard that can be. But if I were given a second chance with the love of my life, I would never keep them hidden like a dirty secret. The people closest to me would be the first to know, even if we were still figuring things out.
The only parts I genuinely enjoyed were the scenes where the gang hung out together. This book simply wasn't for me, so I won't be giving it a rating.
If you enjoy bassist × conservator-restorer, second-chance romance, a possessive MMC, and a cat mom FMC, you might have a better experience than I did.
This is my honest opinion of the ARC I received. Thanks, Michelle, for the opportunity.

I am not ok!!!! 😭😭 This one made my eyes leak something fierce. I've absolutely loved the Devil's Halo series and this is the perfect finale. I'm sad it's done. Like heartbroken. When Michelle Windsor writes a series you get so invested in every single character and you're left just always wanting more. So to see this coming to end just tugs at my heart strings. I need epilogues upon epilogues for these characters 🤣😍
Hayden's story... Gosh I don't even know where to begin. He has to be in control. He's quiet, intense, and observant. Vanessa our FMC comes back into his life after ten years and just stirs up all the things.
I absolutely loved their journey, I loved all the characters being part of their story. This is the true definition of found family, second chances, and a love that is reunited and unfinished.
This is so well balanced and filled with so many emotions. Between the secret club and the spice (fan worthy 🥵), their connection and the magnetic pull (total kick your feet, giggle, and swoon) past trauma and coping/healing (bring on the tears), and complete laughter from the banter between the group! This is absolutely perfect! 🖤
I definitely recommend reading these in order. While they are all standalones and while the characters each have their own stories with how the group dynamic grows it's a much better experience (in my opinion) to start with book 1 Devils Muse.
5 stars immediately from the dedication page. These books speak to my soul!
But Hayden is not like the rest of the boys in the band. He's not soulful like Luc. He's not passionate like Dean. He's not happy like Mikey. Hayden is control. Hayden is deliberate. Hayden is painfully precise and never walks into something he is not sure of the outcome. Until he reconnects with Vanessa. College was years ago but they immediately fall into step with one another.
My favorite parts are the boys in the band. This one feels slower, deliberately paced with a dark undercurrent of predicability. Hayden's personality is controlled and even, skillfully practiced and presented with everything exactly the way he wants. And while Vanessa is a wild card, she still knows exactly how he likes his life. She knows every detail of his personality that nothing is new or has changed.
This one doesn't have the same fun and heart as the others. But the settings have moved out of the hotels, the tour bus, the apartment/recording studio and landed in Gild, where Hayden rents a room for pleasure. This doesn't feel like the same series but closes it.
Vanessa lets Hayden slowly unravel. He remains controlled and calm but his focus is less precise. The shoes scatter. The jacket falls on the floor. He laughs again. She makes him a more bearable character. It takes a while to crack Hayden and it is nice to see him shift.
Hayden, the mysterious one, the quiet one… finally got his book. And wow, it really was a journey: understanding why he was always so quiet, so direct, so immersed in his own world.
The Guild was a surprise. I read a lot of dark romance and BDSM, and I have to say this was actually very, very light: perfect for readers who aren’t usually into those elements.
Vanessa is such a refreshing character, so light and kind. I loved the banter between them and the way they communicate and truly understand each other.
The second-chance romance feels very real, and you can clearly see why they were together in the first place. At the same time, the control situation is something that could happen to anyone, which makes the story even more impactful. It’s really satisfying to watch their relationship evolve throughout the book.
It’s always nice to get glimpses of the other characters and see how they’re doing… and I’m really going to miss them. This was truly a fantastic series.
I thank Michelle for the ARC opportunity and for letting me read this book early. This is my honest, voluntary review.
When you are controlled about everything, it's hard to let anyone in. Hayden reunites with the only woman who he's ever cared for, and he just wants to keep her safe. He was unable to do that for another female he loved and feels like keeping them close will allow them to be safe...always.
Vanessa knew Hayden when they were young. They were in love. She couldn't allow him to control her and they broke up over it.
Hayden went on to become a Rock Star bass player and Vanessa has a career she loves. When they meet again, it's like they never were apart...except...Hayden wants to keep her his little secret. Not because he is embarrassed of her, but he still has the need to keep her safe. When Vanessa realizes Hayden is doing the controlling thing again, she has to decide to stay or leave...this time forever.
I love how Hayden has to grow as a person to appreciate what he has, and how he has to share his whole life...not just try to keep his loved ones safe. The scene at his parent's house was heart wrenching.
5⭐ 3🌶️ Michelle Windsor has done it again with the men of Devil's Halo! Absolutely loved this background of Hayden that we have all been wanting to know. Vanessa is what un-nerves his perfectly controlled life. With their history, Hayden is intrigued as to why he saw her in the Gild hallway. The two haven't spoken since she left, wanting to be loved in public vs. loved in private. It is quite intense between the two. Hayden is actually rattled to the point that it is bleeding over into his interactions with the band, causing Luc and Mikey to question him after he blows up at Dean. Really do love this series, and am equally grateful that I was chosen as an ARC reader for the first book in the series and have stayed on the ARC team since. Can't wait to see what the next series is going to be like with the men of the Gild now taking centerpoint in this literary world.
Thank you, Michelle, for allowing me to read this early. I can't wait to read more from you!
Full of emotional healing, this second chance after a long separation gave full ‘it’s always been you’ vibes. I found myself devouring this, wondering what caused them to separate (it’s a valid reason), what caused them to almost separate again (valid reason), and what caused him to act like he did (traumatised from the death of his sister)…
Love the family aspect in this - seeing the band again for one last time… and then finding out it’s a bridge to a new series!!! Exciting!
It literally breaks my heart that this series is over. This will be one of those I will read again and again. I absolutely loved Hayden, totally misunderstood, completely in charge of everything and never misses even the slightest detail. He is thrown for a loop and knocked off kilter when a blast from his past comes front and center and makes him realize that there is more than control when it comes to love. Vanessa was the yin to his yang and completed him in all ways even those neither of them saw coming. I would love to se this entire series made into movies. Michelle Windsor you out did yourself!!
After 10 years apart Hayden and Vanessa cross paths again and everything feels the same but it's also different. The chemistry is undeniable but is that enough to make it work this time?
Vanessa could not live with Haydens controlling and possesive ways which led to their separation all those years ago but is he still that way? Yes Hayden needs to feel in control of things but also realises that he has to give Vanessa a choice and not feel as if she's been caged. Until he can admit to the reasons why he is the way he is, nothing will really change.
I loved Hayden and Vanessa! The love they had and lost years ago. To be found again and build something so much stronger was a perfect read! It was heartbreaking and so intense for these two. The loss for Hayden shapes so many of his behaviors. Vanessa’s understanding is great but also her fight for her own independence is a must.
I loved this series and these four different stories. So happy to find them all in love. Sad for the end. Can’t wait for the next adventure.
I really enjoyed Hayden and Vanessa's second chance romance. It was a great slow burn and fit perfectly. Their journey was emotional, challenging, reconnecting, and filled with growth. We also got all the feels, a bit of humor, spice, and love. I think Hayden's story was a a great way to end the series. I loved the ending!
Just finished Devil's Base. This book was a bit harder to get into but once I was i loved it. I loved seeing them go from absolutely knowing who they are as an individual to see how they can still be that but also realizing what life is like together and the future they can have. I do hope there will be like a novella maybe down the line to see how all there lives turned out.
Beautiful story of reuniting love and growth from time and life experiences. Heartbreaking at times, but so well written. A wonderful conclusion to the series, but is also a complete story on it's own.
Great read. Hayden and Vanessa were destined to be together. Great heartfelt read. I loved watching Hayden learn to love outside the box. The story was real and emotional at times. You could feel the love off the pages.
This is my second book in the Devil's Halo Rockstar Romance Series and I devoured it.
I loved how Hayden's character evolved. It was nice to see how he worked hard on giving Vanessa the space she needed. And how Vanessa grew more accepting of Hayden's needs.
I think in the 10 years apart they discovered what they wanted and didn't want from a relationship. And giving each other a second chance made them work for it.
Hayden and Vanessa have great chemistry and it was a pleasure following their journey of a second chance.
I'm a huge fan of second chance romance and Michelle gives us just that with Hayden and Vanessa's story. The way she describes her characters is impressive and I love the plot. Hayden needs to have control in all that he does. She left. Will a chance reunion years later change all of that? This book, just like the others in this series, is fantastic. If you're looking for a great rock star series to read, I highly recommend this one.
Hayden is my favorite in the band . I was so happy he receives closure from some of his past. Vanessa was the sun to Hayden's cloudy skies. This is a second chance for people so deserving of love to find it with each other. The ending with the whole band is my favorite part . My second favorite part is the Christmas morning scene .
