How can a single night haunt you for the rest of your life?
Cole
I came here to escape, to lose the last remnants of myself. I had no idea that running from my ghosts would turn into a sprint toward my future. A future I simply can’t allow myself to hope for.
Helping her fix up her run-down cabins and keeping her safe from an invisible threat has opened the door to so much more than I was prepared for. But Charlie deserves the world, and my shriveled up excuse of a heart is all that’s left of me.
The thing is, I’m beginning to think she might just be the only one to bring it back to life.
Charlie
I bought this place to escape, to reinvent myself and start over somewhere new. Too bad it’s falling apart at the seams. That is, until a sexy, albeit grumpy, FBI agent lands on my doorstep complaining about his lodgings.
His selfless offer to help me whip this resort into shape is a lifeline I can’t afford to drop. But spending so much time together and getting to know the man inside the broken shell, has me wishing he’d never leave.
When the waking nightmare I left behind comes back to haunt me, it’s time to make a choice. Fight and take back control of our lives, so that we may both heal. Or let the monsters of our past consume us.
This is book one in a trilogy of interconnected standalones and is intended for mature audiences.

Nomi J. Avery is a German author living in rural Ontario. A passionate long-time romance reader, she’s dreamed of becoming a published author since she was a little girl. A life-long dream that was finally fulfilled with the release of her Despite It All Duet.
When she’s not reading or writing, she enjoys spending time with her family, hiking and exploring the rugged Canadian backcountry, and sampling delicious foods. She has a weakness for tortured heroes, morally gray men, and mute MMCs.
If you asked her what her idea of a perfect day is, her answer would be to curl up in bed with a good book, a family-sized tray of sushi, and a chilled glass of Pinot Grigio.
Thanks to Naughty Nook PR for providing the eARC. This is my honest opinion.
When Healing Happens Together
‘Healing Together’ feels like a quiet hand resting on your shoulder. It is a story about connection, vulnerability, and the courage it takes to heal alongside someone else. Nomi Avery tells this story with gentleness, allowing emotions to unfold slowly and naturally.
The heart of this book lies in its emotional layers. Feelings are given space to exist without being rushed, and the focus on shared healing and human connection creates a warm, comforting atmosphere. There is a softness to the storytelling that makes it easy to sink into the emotions and reflect on personal experiences along the way.
That same calmness, however, is also where the story occasionally loses momentum. The pace is very slow, and at times the narrative feels more like a collection of emotional moments than a story driven by plot. A stronger focus on the plot could have added more direction and depth. Some of the side characters remain in the background, leaving the sense that there was more to discover about them than the story ultimately shows.
Despite these points, ‘Healing Together’ remains a tender and sincere read. It is a book for moments when speed and twists are not the priority, but feeling, reflection, and quiet emotional resonance. With more narrative focus, this story could have reached even deeper, yet it still leaves a gentle impression that lingers after the final page.
FBI Agent MMC | Feisty FMC | Insta Attraction | Forced Proximity | Grumpy x Grumpy | Touch Her and Die | Love After Loss | Mutual Healing | Romantic Suspense
At this point I will read absolutely anything Nomi J. Avery writes, no questions asked. But Cole… and Maddox? 🤤 Absolutely. Delicious. And honestly? If Nomi wants to write an entire series about Maddox’s team, I will be SAT and waiting.
I devoured this book. It’s raw, dark, and achingly vulnerable but somehow equally healing, with just the right side of humour to keep your heart from completely combusting. The atmosphere is unreal. You feel like you’re right there in the cabin, in the woods, breathing in every tense, intimate moment alongside thr characters.
And one of my absolute favourite things about Nomi’s writing... No dragged out miscommunication trope. The emotional tension comes from depth, not avoidable nonsense and it makes everything hit so much harder.
The entire book was delicious. And that last line?! I nearly threw the book. WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!
Perfectly wrecked. Fully healed. 10/10 would emotionally spiral again.
This book was very good. There was a few places where I thought was very slow but overall I enjoyed it. Cole and Charlie’s banter has you laughing and giggling in parts. Other parts has you wanting to cry. This book has mutual healing, insta attraction, grumpy x grumpy. Cole is an FBI Special Agent. He needed a break from work and the city after a tragic event happened. He was at rock bottom when he booked a cabin for the months at a resort in a small town. Charlie left an abusive and toxic relationship. She moved to the small town to restart and bought a resort that she knew she had to fix up. Charlie’s ex found her and took her and that is when Cole realized he loved her and didn’t want to live with out her. Cole found and rescued her after some days of looking for her. He took care of her ex so he would never bother them again. The book leaves off on kind of a cliffhanger about Cole’s best friend who goes missing. Ready to see where book 2 takes us.
Let’s see : Morally Grey, Strangers to lovers ,Forced Proximity ,Grumpy vs Grumpy , Sassy vs Sarcastic , Suspense FBI AND MC , plus some steamy scenes… I’ll always sign up for this.
I can’t even tell you how much I like this book, now there are some spots that seem to drag a little for me, but it also had all of the details I needed to really be hooked.
It ends with my dear frenemy -cliffy, but I cannot wait to dive into book 2. I need to know the stuff and things!
One of my favourite things is how this author’s website literally list in detail the tropes and the triggers for each of their books. I love it. That’s a great way to ensure the mental health of your readers and keep them coming back!
3.25⭐️ Thank you to Naughty Nook PR and Nomi J Avery for the EARC copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I loved the setting of this book Moose Harbor seems like such a cute quaint town and I could picture the resort Charlie perfectly! I thought the story was beautiful it just felt very long and drawn out but also a little rushed. I know that everyone has their own way of healing but the way Charlie and Cole got together felt a bit rushed to me, Cole is still very much dealing with his own demons when their relationship starts up and honestly if I were a Charlie I would feel like it was a trauma bond maybe or kind of like a rebound a bit. I found the ending a little bit unrealistic too it seemed odd to me that a highly trained agent wouldn’t search the place he should’ve at the end when he searched the entire town (I’m trying not to spoil stuff lol). I also didn’t love Coles nickname for Charlie to me she doesn’t feel like a “Tinkerbell” and I really didn’t like him calling her Tink. However, I did find this book really funny it had me laughing out loud more than once. I didn’t love the cliffhanger ending but it was kind of cool to see a romance novel end on one. Overall it was a good book about grief and healing there were just some parts that weren’t for me. I totally recommend checking it out for yourself and forming your own opinion!
Healing Together is Book 1 in The Resilience series by Nomi J. Avery. It’s a romantic suspense novel revolving around the lives of Cole Foster and Charlotte ‘Charlie’ Delaney.
Cole, an FBI agent, is a man of few words. He’s the sexy, grumpy, protective type and currently carries more than just the weight of his job on his shoulders. He’s left DC for three months to travel to Moose Harbor, Washington to help him figure a few things out and make some decisions.
Charlie, the owner of a rundown mountain resort, is a sassy and determined woman who ran away from a toxic relationship. She’s trying to take the next step and move into a new chapter of her life.
Clinging to whatever inner strength they have left, they’re two people devastated by tragedy and when they cross paths their attraction is immediate. Neither one of them is looking for love. It’s crazy though, because occasionally the only person who can understand your damage is the one you’re trying the hardest not to fall for.
Two people. Two tragedies. Two hearts learning how to beat again—together.
Healing Together is written from both Charlie’s and Cole’s point of view. Beginning in the first chapter, this perspective adds moments of funny inner monologue. The main characters captured my attention and the secondary cast did just the same. Along with a good storyline and plot, there is vivid imagery throughout. While this is a romantic suspense, there is some witty banter woven in. The story does move slowly at times but it felt intentional to match what was happening on the page. Cole and Charlie do get their hard earned HEA in this book; however, it ends in a cliffhanger that sets up book two.
This is book one in a trilogy of interconnected standalones and is intended for mature audiences. Nomi J. Avery has a website where you can see the full list of content warnings as your mental health is important to her.
Where do I start? This book tugs on your heartstrings and then pulls....hard, like really farking hard! A heartfelt story with all the feels and if you do not fall in love with Cole and Charlies story then you have no heart!! Fact!! Just like Cole assumed his cold dark heart died when he lost all that was dear to him. Meeting Charlie was his saving grace and to say that Charlie having Cole enter her life just when she needed him and his protection was also fate playing cupid. And it is certainly a rollercoaster of a ride as both Cole and Charlie try to remain professional and keep boundaries until lines became fuzzy and were crossed. Where does one go when he feels that he is betraying his lost love, by finding comfort in another woman? Charlie tries to be there for Cole, but when he shuts himself off from her and the world, it is a delicate uphill battle to win his trust once again. You will love the push and pull as both Charlie and Cole enter a no strings attached relationship, but know that feelings were beginning to form. Cole, always saying he was not staying to be with Charlie, she resigned herself to being heartbroken when he decided to leave. As with all romance stories there has to be a twist or two thrown in, so when Charlies demons come back to haunt her, she turns to the only man she can trust....Cole.....bur can he keep her safe? This is an exceptional read and covers some sensitive subjects, but is written with much respect to the victims of DV and how the handling of a loss would impact a person left behind! A first time read for me by Nomi J Avery and I was very impressed. A worthy 5 stars from me and now cannot wait for book 2 Maddox and Dee's story!
Thank you for the opportunity to read an ARC of this book.
I loved Nomi J. Avery's books since I fell into the rabbit hole that was her duet, and I thought to myself that I would never not read anything she wrote.
From the very first chapter, I was hooked. Cole’s dry sense of humour immediately won me over. Huge props to the author’s writing style; that sharp, understated humour is exactly my thing.
I found myself deeply intrigued by the mystery surrounding Charlie. As the layers slowly peeled back, the emotional weight of the story really began to settle in, and I cannot stop reading! Cole’s descriptions of depression hit hard, raw, honest, and uncomfortably relatable at times. It genuinely felt like a punch to the chest.
Cole’s backstory and the guilt he carries were heartbreaking. Watching him wrestle with it brought tears to my eyes. And Charlie… my heart. The things she went through and came out as fierce as she is. Gosh! I love them. Some moments were genuinely difficult to read, in the best, most impactful way.
I already know I love romantic suspense, but there’s something about the way this author writes it that elevates the genre for me. The tension, the pacing, the emotional stakes. It all works so well together. And The Adonis? I love him and I cannot wait for his book!
Yes, I suspected some plot movements, yet… I was still surprised. That’s how well this story kept me on edge. Also, seriously, read the trigger warnings.
And Spencer… that’s all I’m saying.
My only complaint is that this book is too short. I need book two immediately. This story consumed me, and I am not ready to let these characters go.
To sum it up in a single sentence, this book was an emotional roller coaster with no brakes or seatbelts, and I was a very willing participant who would happily ride it again.
Healing Together is a beautiful small town romance that captures the raw essence of what it's like to heal from grief and trauma. The main characters, Charlie and Cole, aren't perfect by any means. They're flawed, emotionally unavailable, and carry the weight of unresolved trauma from their pasts. Despite the rough start to their friendship, the pair find themselves subconsciously gravitating towards each other in a desperate attempt to escape their demons.
I loved the way this book dedicated time to deconstruct Charlie and Cole's trauma before diving into the romantic aspect of their relationship. They're both upfront and honest, and it's like a well-needed breath of fresh air. The growing suspense and plot twists towards the end of the book had me on the edge of my seat. I think I seriously underestimated how invested I would get in this story. With lives on the line, I had no choice but to keep reading! Despite the painful cliffhanger we get thrown at us on the last page, we still get what I would call a 'happy' ending (IYKYK).
Overall, this was such an easy read, everything flowed, and I absolutely loved it! I seriously can't wait for book two and I hope to read more from this author in the future! I'm super thankful to have been chosen as an ARC reader for this book and I am voluntarily leaving this review! :)
“You have been my anchor in a turbulent sea, Tink, and I really appreciate you being here for me.“ • Healing together is the first book in the “The resilience series”, here you’ll find:
🐶Forced proximity 🏡Grumpy x Grumpy ✨Mutual healing ❤️🩹 Insta attraction
This was my first book by this author and I really liked it. It was such a good, heartfelt read.
Charlie is a woman who just escaped a toxic and abusive relationship and decides to start over in a small town where no one knows her and where she can’t be found. I really loved her character and empathized with her so much. She’s incredibly strong and resilient—she’s been through hell, and of course she doesn’t trust easily. I loved her growth throughout the book and especially how she knew from the beginning that she could trust Cole. Trauma recognizes trauma, and they are the perfect example of that.
Cole is an FBI agent on leave after something tragic and traumatic happens to him. He just wants to disappear for a while and finds himself at a resort in this quiet, uneventful small town. I really liked how he instantly felt a connection with Charlie, and how he could tell something was off about her. Again, trauma recognizes trauma, and that bond between them felt very natural.
Their relationship was really good, but I would’ve loved to see more conversations about their pasts and a deeper look at how their relationship grew emotionally. Still, what we got was tender and meaningful.
Overall, this was such a good read, and I’m really curious about the next book—because that epilogue? I need to know what happens next.
Thank you so much to @nomijaveryauthor and @naughtynookpr for the ARC!
4.25⭐️ I wanted to throw my Kindle because I need book 2 right now!!!! This book does not leave off on a cliffhanger for Charlie and Cole. It just sets up book two really well.
We HATE 🤬 Jason and his whole crew!!!!
Tropes: Romantic suspense FBI agent Feisty FMC Grumpy x Grumpy Insta attraction Forced proximity Touch her and 💀 Mutual healing Love after Loss
Charlie: Decided that she was going to buy a resort in Moose Harbor. It just happens to need a lot of work. Oh and she doesn't know what she is doing. She is just needing to get away from her previous life.
Cole: FBI agent that needed to get away from D.C. to help clear his head. While drinking he decided that he was going to point to the map for his destination. Everything was fine until he got out of the truck and realized this place is straight out of the 70's.
Both of these characters have been through some stuff. They are both on journeys separate to heal after loss. Cole is not doing that great so he hates everything. To say their first interaction wasn't great would be an understatement. They do find middle ground while doing renovations around the resort together. It's a will they or won't they????
I loved nudey Dave, Maddox, and Dee.
Check trigger warnings.
Thank you Nomi J. Avery and Naughty Nook PR for the early copy. Above are my honest thoughts.
Where do I start? This novel hit all the feels with Cole and Charlie’s story. From the walls put up when being guarded, the guilt felt by those left behind, the grief of knowing loss, the pain that those with severe wounds (physical and mental) experience on a daily basis…to the hope that comes slowly, the small smiles that slowly give way to laughter, the grief that is love without an outlet transforming into something new, something beautiful altogether. Though their story begins roughly with much sass and banter, the camaraderie and comfort that Charlie and Cole can find within each other slowly develops to something much deeper than either could have anticipated. Beautiful story with heartfelt healing that hits in all of the right feels as our main characters learn to live with life after loss.
Favorite Quotes: “People like us recognize a kindred spirit. She might not know it now, but she needs someone to help mend her broken pieces. And…so do I.” “My broken pieces speak to his and knowing he’s wrestling with something makes me want to be the one to help him win the battle with his demons.” “My battered soul calls out to him, and the fixer in my simply wants to give him comfort.” “You saved me from a lifetime of loneliness and misery…You’d better get used to having me around because I’m not going anywhere.”
Healing Together by Nomi J Avery is a second chance and small town romance. MMC Cole Foster is an FBI Agent who needs some downtime after a some heavy personal conflict. He randomly books a mountain retreat to clear his head. MFC Charlotte (Charlie) Delaney purchased a run down mountain resort to start over from her personal turmoil.
Each of our main characters must work through their own issues while unexpectedly falling for the other one. When their pasts catch up to them, the plot thickens.
I absolutely loved this book and am waiting not so patiently for the next book. The characters were so relatable that I flew through the book just to know what happened. The foreshadowing was great as well.
The passion and need from the characters was not cringy like some stories are in this genre. Instead it was super spicy 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ I loved the internal turmoil each character was feeling, was said for us (the reader). It really brought their personalities for me at least. I love that we got to know what theyre thinking instead of just what was said in conversation.
The dry humor is so relatable. The emotional maturity from both main characters was refreshing.
I appreciate that the author does not shy away from hard and/or ugly topics and themes in her stories.
Please don’t make us wait too long to know what happens with Maddox!
Healing together is an emotional read! It is a story of strength, healing, grief after loss. A beautifully written Small town Romance! Moose Harbor is such a cute town.
Charlie, starts afresh, away from her past decides live at Moose Harbor where nobody knew her. I really empathized with her so much! She went through so much but she knew she can trust Cole. She is so strong! I loved her so much!
Cole is a FBI agent who was on a leave due to something traumatic and comes to stay at a cabin in Moose Harbor. His dry humor!! I loved it so much. His backstory, the guilt made my heart ache. The depictions of grief, depression was well done!
Both of them went through so much but their journey is so beautiful. I loved the character arcs so much! And the BANTER?? So well done. I fell in love with author's writing. I loved the suspense aspect in this book. Can't wait for Maddox and Dee's book!
Some of my favorite quotes:
“My broken pieces speak to his and knowing he’s wrestling with something makes me want to be the one to help him win the battle with his demons.”

ARC Reader Confessional – Healing Together: The Resilience Series by Nomi J. Avery
Healing Together is an emotional, thoughtfully written story that explores themes of healing, resilience, and moving forward after difficult experiences. The subject matter is heartfelt, and it’s clear a lot of care went into portraying emotional growth and vulnerability.
While I appreciated the emotional focus of the story, I personally struggled to fully connect with the main characters. The emotions were present on the page, but for me, they didn’t quite translate into a strong emotional connection, which made it harder to become fully invested in their journey. That connection is a big part of what I look for in emotionally driven reads, and its absence impacted my overall experience.
That said, the writing itself is solid, and I can see how this book could resonate deeply with readers who do connect with the characters and themes. The message of healing together and finding strength through shared experiences is meaningful and well intentioned.
Overall, Healing Together is a good emotional read with important themes, even if it didn’t fully click for me on a personal level. I’d still recommend it to readers who enjoy stories centered on healing, resilience, and emotional growth.
📖 I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I finished this book a couple of days ago and have now started to stalk Nomi's social accounts for updates on book two.
This is a beautiful story about two broken strangers who life brings together in a few unlikely events (like our MMC had a drunken night point at a map and decided to rent a cottage on said property for three months). Our FMC needed a clean break and brought a run down resort in a small town.
Both our main characters has a lot of past trauma to deal with and after initial cold introductions they slowly build up a relationship by not only working through their own trauma's but also being there for each other, there is some funny banter and comments to lighten the mood.
Unfortunately the past does not always stay lying down and a turn of events will have them testing their own strengths and endurance.
The book is well written, a suspense romance- my first but I devoured it in two days as it hooks you in the first chapter. I loved that there is layers to the story and the past gets revealed slowly as we get to know the characters. writing is done very well and 1 could easily envision the resort and small town of Moose harbour. Its written as a dual pov- i love that we got to know both characters and their thoughts.
Now although their appearances are brief in this book but the two side characters stole my heart and I cannot wait to read the next book!!
Cole Cole cole, the man that you are. Hot damn. He is a top tier man in the book world. The book pain and struggle that this man had been through in the past two years is unbearable, but he’s trying his best to move on and find a purpose! Charlie, sweet Charlie is a fiery, take no bullshit, sassy thang. She had been broken, taken advantage of and treated like a toy. She is a fierce woman and doesn’t take bullshit from anyone.
This book is beautifully written. It’s about our MMC Cole and our FMC Charlie, they both come from a terrible past and they’re just trying to heal themselves, but end up healing each other, their happily ever after was beautiful!
I cannot wait to get my hands on book two with my boy Mads and Dee! I was secretly hoping and shipping the two of them as soon as I read about them.
If you’re looking for a heartfelt, healing, and finding love after loss, this book is for you. The chemistry and watching them overcome their past and find love after everything they’ve been through was something special!
As always check your triggers, & temper your mental health matters 🖤 Ps. Thank you Nomi, for giving me the chance to review as an arc reader. I can’t wait for my man Mads!!! 🤭
First off I would like to thank the Author for allowing me to read this book before it was publish. I can't tell you how much it means to me! Now time for the review.
I ABSOLUTLEY adored this book.! If it wasn't for life happening I would have finished it sooner. It gets you hooked the instant you start reading which I love.
Cole- Is an FBI agent whose life got turned upside down two years ago. On one drunken night he had booked a 3month vacation in a cabin 3000 miles away at a in hopes of finding himself and what his next move is.
Charlie- Trying to run from her past life and and her parents passing she gained a sum of inherence she then bought out the cabin resort in hopes to turn into a round and start a new life for herself.
These two come across a mix of grumpy vs sunshine(with attitude) with Charlie not taking any crap from Cole. Ended up turning into a beautiful connection that neither of them could deny. But will their past eventually catch up to them? Well, you will just have to find out once you read this amazing book.
(please be advise that this book does end in a cliffhanger)
Healing Together by Nomi J. Avery was more than just a romance for me, it was emotional, healing, and surprisingly funny in all the right moments.
Cole and Charlie’s journey is raw and heartfelt, full of broken pieces, growth, and the kind of friendship and love that doesn’t magically fix everything but chooses to heal anyway. Their connection felt real, earned, and deeply emotional, the kind that sticks with you after you close the book.
But let’s talk about Maddox, because he absolutely stole the show. He brought the perfect dose of comedic relief and had me smiling every time he appeared. He’s the kind of character you can’t help but fall in love with. He is loyal, funny, and unapologetically himself. And the bond between Maddox and Cole? Honestly one of my favorite parts of the book. Their friendship felt genuine, supportive, and incredibly admirable.
This book balanced emotion, humor, and healing so beautifully that I already know the wait for the next installment is going to be rough. I’m not ready to say goodbye to these characters yet (especially Maddox), and I cannot wait to see where this series goes next. 💛📖
Thank you to Nomi J. Avery and Naughty Nook PR for the opportunity to read and review this book!
I had convinced myself that this was going to be one of the last romance books I would review, as they are all starting to run together for me. However, seeing how much I enjoyed this book, and how I now know it is the first book in an interconnected standalone series, I am going to need to see how the rest of this plays out. I am curious about some of the side characters, so I would be willing to bet they get their own stories in the rest of this series.
This is one of those super emotional and deep romances. For me, it was one that was very slow and soft, the kind that makes you reflect on your own personal experiences. It forces you to relate to the characters, and just… feel. There is a lot of push and pull between the two MCs, Charlie and Cole, but throughout the hurt and confusion, the mystery and troubled pasts, there is a story of allowing yourself to be vulnerable and learning how to heal. It doesn’t hurt that there was a touch of steam thrown in there, too, lol. Overall, I enjoyed Avery’s ability to tell a story, and I am looking forward to reading more in this series!
Get ready to meet Cole, the FBI agent who's got a ton of trauma and a pretty foul mouth. And then there's Charlie, a strong, independent woman who’s also grappling with her own past issues. This is my first taste of Nomi’s writing, and I can guarantee it won’t be the last book of hers that I pick up. The story moves quickly, is packed with emotion, and feels very real, yet it keeps you on your toes.
I really liked the character arcs and thought the plot was solid. Healing from trauma. Quick-witted banter. Hilarious inner thoughts. There were definitely moments where I wished there was more dialogue between the characters instead of just their internal monologues.
This wasn’t a bad read, but I didn’t feel a strong emotional connection between the main characters. There was definitely physical attraction and chemistry, but I kept waiting for something more. I think I went into this expecting a deeper, trauma-based story—two broken people helping each other work through insecurities and healing together. Instead, the story focused more on resisting attraction and slowly building feelings, which just didn’t hit as hard for me.
I wanted more depth and emotional rawness. Something that really dug into the characters and made their connection feel meaningful beyond the physical pull.
That being said, I loved Charlie. She was strong, independent, sassy, and fierce, and I genuinely enjoyed her character. Interestingly, my favorite character ended up being Maddox—even though he was more of a side character and featured in the next book. He felt more real and compelling to me than Cole, and I’m not entirely sure why.
Overall, it was an okay read, just not as emotionally impactful as I hoped it would be.
This was like a warm blanket on a cold day. A hug from your favorite person. A slowburn, small town love story. The premise is simple and to the point, Cole has stepped back from his life after a personal tragedy and after a drunken night and playing “put the finger on the location of your getaway” on a map, he finds himself booked into the quite shabby lodge (looked so much better online) in Moose Harbor. The middle of nowhere. At least there’s a lake. And a nudist neighbor in the next cabin, Dave.
Charlie is the recent new owner of the lodge and is more than aware of the upkeep that needs to happen but upon meeting Cole and his complaints about his accommodations, their first few meetings are a little fiery….dont all the best possible love connections start that way? An attraction grows between Cole and Charlie but while Cole deals with residual guilt, Charlie has her own traumatic past that is obsessed with tracking her down…
The first in a new interconnected series and I look forward to the next.
“Better hold on, baby. This is gonna be a bumpy ride.”– Cole
Truer words couldn’t describe this book. It starts off light and fun with Cole getting catfished by his summer cabin and ending up with a nudist neighbor, then meeting Charlie and Scooby, but it quickly turns emotional and suspenseful before settling into a well-earned ending for Cole and Charlie.
The writing is fast-paced, emotional, and raw, with lots of internal dialogue that’s relatable and often chuckle-worthy. My only thought is that some inner monologues or storytelling ran a bit long, and I would’ve loved more group interaction to break it up.
Overall, a great, engaging read that I devoured in one sitting.
Thank you Nomi J. Avery for writing and sharing this story! I received this as an advanced copy, and left this review on my own.

What to expect: strangers to lovers, forced proximity, grumpy / grumpy, mutual healing, morally gray MMC, small town romance, touch her and die, love after loss
Healing Together was a quick read filled with tension, spice, healing, and suspense! The characters are extremely likable. Cole is an FBI agent healing from a devastating loss and Charlie is a feisty lodge resort owner who is working to start over after leaving her rough past behind. There is fun banter and playfulness, and there is also deep emotions and healing together with our main characters. The supporting characters like Maddox, Dee, Dave, and even Scooby the dog added a lot to the story as well!
This book is fast paced and I devoured it in one setting. It is full of sweet moments and also some suspense that kept things interesting until the very end. The ending was a nail biter for sure…I was shook at the cliffhanger and am looking forward to reading book 2!
“Healing Together” is a beautifully written book that delves into the complexities of trauma, the arduous journey towards healing, and the pursuit of escaping the clutches of darkness. Cole, an FBI agent on a sabbatical following a devastating tragedy, finds himself drawn to a remote, dilapidated cabin in Moose Harbor, Washington. There, he encounters Charlie, who is fleeing from her own personal demons. As these two fractured souls collide, a profound transformation unfolds. The captivating narrative begins with the introduction of Cole, a formidable and witty book boyfriend whose sarcastic demeanor is only rivaled by Charlie’s fiery spirit. The suspense builds to a thrilling climax, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the continuation of the story in the sequel, Dee and Mad’s Story. “Healing Together” is scheduled for release on January 20, 2026. I highly recommend pre-ordering and reading it immediately, as you will not be disappointed.
Charlie and Cole are both suffering from the weight of their pasts. Charlie is terrified of her past catching up with her. Cole believes his past is proof that he’s unworthy of love and happiness.
The storyline is raw, emotional and full of tension. But, what truly makes Healing Together a standout is the depth of the characters. Their inner-dialogues gave me a front row seat to not only their thoughts, but how their minds worked, their inner-spirit.
Charlie is sunshine with sass! Cole is a grumpy Gus! And when their quick-witted banter begins flowing, it’s downright delightful! It gave an entire new level of depth to their personalities.
An amazing story of transformational healing from the complexities of trauma. Healing Together will not leave you disappointed.

Charlie bought a resort filled with dilapidated cabins after running from an abusive ex and her first guest is none other than special agent Cole Foster! In an attempt to get into a better head space after an unimaginable loss he takes a leave of absence where he’s instantly attracted to the curvy red headed owner.
This book dives into our MCs healing processes from their traumas with some forced proximity heating up their attraction for one another. The friendships and found family vibes were everything and we all need friends who are our ride and die which we see here. There was an enjoyable level of open door spice, hints at darker themes but nothing significant actually written and a HEA with all the feels! But also that ending hinting at what’ll happen next book is going to make the wait pretty agonising 🥲. Amazing start into this series.
Oh Nomi, you’ve done it again! 10/10 recommend. I have been with you since the beginning and you have yet to disappoint me. Although, the ending….. Why!?!?!!? I’ll just sit here and wait now 🤪
This book has a FBI Agent MMC Cole who has really had quite a tough road filled with loss and tragedy who was sure he wouldn’t be looking for love after loss.
Our fiesty FMC Charlie also had a past that had her running and trying to start over and forget about what it was she was running from.
This story is about healing and when Cole and Charlie finally open up to each other they share things about each other you wouldn’t believe, but Cole still doesn’t believe he’s good enough for her.
I fell in love with Cole and Charlie and you can’t help but feel like you’re on this ride of feelings and emotions with them. Want to know what happens? REAS THIS I promise you wont be disappointed!!!
Get ready to meet the MMC Cole who is an FBI agent with a lot of trauma, but definitely has a filthy mouth 😏 And the FMC Charlie who is feisty, but has an amazing personality and is a strong independent women who also deals with past trauma.
This story is all about healing ❤️🩹 the plot is very great and you’ll fall in love with the characters pretty quickly! Please read your trigger warnings as some of the topics in the books could be disturbing to some.
BUT, be prepared to be wanting more!!! The story does end with a little cliffhanger 😵
❤️🩹 forced proximity ❤️🩹 grumpy x grumpy ❤️🩹 touch her and die ❤️🩹 mutual healing ❤️🩹 love after loss
Nomi, you did it again! I’ve been with you from the start, and this series will absolutely be a masterpiece 🫶 thank you for the ARC!
