Originally published in London in 1892, Golf in the Year 2000 is the story of Alexander John Gibson, a golf afficionado who "fell into a trance on the night of Thursday, March 24, 1892" and awoke 108 years later on March 25 in the year 2000. This amazing book predicted television, digital watches, bullet trains, and more.
I might've gone 4 stars, but I found some of the things to be a bit ridiculous (like playing golf tournaments to settle disputes between countries instead of war and men being content to basically do nothing except play golf and drink). The futuristic predictions are interesting and a few weren't that far off base. 3.5 stars
The premise is good, the preface is humorous, the writing is blah. Elevated it to 3 stars due to foretelling of a Ryder Cup-like competition and TV. However, I cannot recommend unless you do not mind a silly dalliance.
