Abby Yard flew to Paris expecting a proposal.
Instead, she got dumped.

So naturally, she did the only reasonable thing a heartbroken woman in the City of Love could do—slept with the hottest man she’s ever seen and fled the country before learning his last name.

Now she’s starting fresh in Wengen, Switzerland, after landing her dream job redesigning the iconic Grand Belvédère Hotel for luxury development group Deux Globe.

There’s just one tiny problem.

Her Paris one-night stand?
He’s Lewis Cole—broody, annoyingly perfect, and now her new boss.
And… flatmate.

Apparently, her best friend forgot to mention the part about co-sharing an apartment.

Paris was one night only.
Switzerland will be professional.
Strictly business. No repeats.

But with thin walls, shared coffee spoons, and that same look in his eyes—the one that started it all…

How long can two ex-strangers-turned-co-workers-turned-roommates really resist a second round in the Swiss Alps?

Before I dive into my review, I want to extend a huge thank you to Laura for reaching out and sending me an ARC of your book!

With a sprinkle of serendipity, One Night Only is a rom-com and debut novel by an Australian author, featuring a quick-witted and bubbly Aussie FMC who is beginning a fresh start in a quaint village with a picturesque backdrop of the Swiss Alps. The MMC, her boss and one-night stand, cannot forget the night they shared—it left him wanting and craving more.

"Mr. Captain Commitment-Phobe has been undone by a brunette with a sharp tongue and the kindest eyes." - Lewis

I had a fun time reading One Night Only! It's light and fluffy, easy to read, and a little bit cheesy (sometimes we need it ☺️) I enjoyed the relationship dynamics among all the characters; each added their own unique flavour to the storyline, and some of their dialogues brought a smile to my face.

It was cute to see Abby (FMC) and Lewis (MMC) navigating their awkward situation— them trying to be professional and fighting their feelings for each other. Despite their inner turmoils and boundaries, Abby and Lewis had an easy-flowing relationship. They instantaneously clicked and fell into a routine. I also enjoyed their flirtatious games and playful banter.

Abby was hesitant to trust and give in to the pull towards Lewis. After her recent failed relationship, she was afraid of another heartbreak. Being aware of her doubts, Lewis was patient and considerate—he made sure Abby understood that he was serious and wasn't going anywhere.

"That’s what I’m great at—reading into things. Playing out scenarios in my head before they’ve even happened. It’s like a game I play with myself. Or maybe a personal book I keep rewriting, starring my own life." - Abby

Abby is an interior designer—she loves her coffee, she's funny and bright. Abby has been in a long-term relationship with her footy player boyfriend, James. To support James's career, Abby uprooted her entire life, putting her dreams and goals aside. She may be struggling to adapt and find work in Melbourne, but that's okay. Abby knows and is waiting for James to pop the question any day now. Instead of celebrating her engagement, Abby gets dumped by her boyfriend of three years in the "City of Love," Paris, France.

Feeling reckless, Abby decides to spend the night with a handsome stranger, Lewis. Just one night, no strings attached. On a business trip in Paris, Lewis and his business partner own a hotel chain in Switzerland. A few days later, Abby is in Switzerland starting her new job. She meets her bosses, and lo and behold, it's Lewis. The man she hooked up with is one of her bosses. On top of fighting the tension and awkwardness, Abby and Lewis are now roomies.

* I received an ARC in exchange for honest review.

This follows Abby, who has spent the past three years following her AFL star boyfriend around. Now, with a trip to Paris and an engagement on the horizon, Abby can’t wait for her future with her soon to be fiancé. But what happens when she’s humiliated and realises she’s misread the entire situation?

For a debut novel, I absolutely loved this book it was brilliant. Not only that, but the author writing this with dyslexia is a massive feat. This story made me laugh, experience heartbreak, and fall in love. It’s very character-driven, and one thing I thought was fantastic was the overlapping chapters from each main character’s perspective. Seeing the same situation unfold through different eyes really helped build the foundation of their feelings and allowed us to understand what each other was thinking.

Starting with Abby I loved her. My heart absolutely sank for her and what her ex put her through. She was so happy, vibrant, and excited, and then everything changed in a single moment. But her unforgettable night with Lewis made it all worth it. Lewis isn’t someone who plans on settling down, but when he meets Abby, everything shifts. Neither of them expects to see the other again, but fate has other plans. The way Lewis was patient with her and respected her boundaries really did it for me. You could feel the tension and chemistry between them.

There are just a couple of things that come down to personal preference and include slight spoilers. I struggle with certain nicknames, and “baby girl” is one I don’t enjoy. I’m also not a fan of very quick engagements used to solidify a happily ever after. From the one night stand, it felt like roughly four months had passed before the next chapter showed them engaged. This felt fast paced the ending which I struggle with. I don’t think it was necessary to conclude the story this way. Though I can understand why it was included.

Overall, I really enjoyed this book and can’t wait to read more of this author’s work in the future.

“I will never take anything from her. Never ask her to move or quit something she loves. Never ask her to shrink so I can stand taller. That asshole? He stripped away her power and called it love. Me? I’d rather hand her the whole goddamn world and watch what she builds with it.”

Firstly, a huge thank you to Laura for reaching out and giving me the opportunity to ARC read her debut novel.

I went in not knowing that the FMC was Australian — and specifically from Adelaide, which is my hometown — so that was such a lovely and unexpected little nod to home.

Abby was a wonderful FMC. She was strong and funny, but also vulnerable and honest with her feelings.

Now Lewis… if there was ever a more green flag MMC, I’d love to see the proof. He was so secure in who he was and never once tried to dim Abby’s light — instead, he allowed her to be exactly who she needed to be.

Overall, this was such an easy, fun, good time read. The perfect palate cleanser if you’re coming off a heavier fantasy or emotionally intense book.

Well done, Laura, on your debut novel 🥰

PS — the complete lack of a miscommunication trope made me extremely happy.

A perfect palate cleanser when you want something fun! As an Adelaide girl, I really enjoyed seeing a character from home, a small detail that made the story feel that bit more relatable. And if you’ve ever done a Euro Contiki, the Lauterbrunnen moments will bring back memories in the best way.

For a debut author, this is a strong start. It was entertaining and the spicy scenes definitely deliver!

One Night Only was such a light, fun read! It was exactly the kind of romance that sweeps you away for a few hours. Paris and Switzerland felt like dreamy side characters, adding so much atmosphere and escapism to the story! I especially loved Lewis and his POV, and Abby’s strength made her so easy to root for. My fingers are crossed that Flic and Juan get their own story someday!!

This was such a promising debut and the sweetest romcom to boot! Huge thanks to Laura for reaching out and sending this my way!

Abby flew to Paris expecting a proposal from boyfriend James, but instead he dumps her. Her best friend Flic offers her the dream job working as an interior designer for a new hotel in Switzerland so off she goes to reset. Before she leaves Paris though, she has a mind blowing night with Lewis and the no strings experience is exactly what she needed. But then it turns out Lewis is one of her new bosses, and they end up having to share an apartment. Abby is determined to keep things strictly professional, but it becomes harder as they spend more time together and get to know each other better.

This was such a wonderful story! Abby was a great FMC and I loved seeing her heal from dickwad James with the support of bestie Flic and Lewis. Flic is the BFF every girl needs and she was hilarious. Lewis was so solid as well - he gave Abby the space to decide what her feelings were without pressuring her (but you best believe he made her aware he wanted her hehe). The sexual tension in this was soooo good and the spice was yummy. I also loved Lewis’ business partner Juan, who was also hilarious (the clubbing scene really had me cackling hahaha). The only thing I would say I didn’t like in this (which is what made this a 3.5 instead of a 4) was that some of the chapters started the same but in a different POV - so we would get Abby’s POV and then Lewis’ chapter would start the same as Abby’s but from his perspective, which isn’t something I love personally. Overall though, this was a really fun romcom - truly it felt like a classic movie but in book form! The scenery was also amazing and made me feel like I was really there - I definitely want to go to a cozy village in Switzerland now!! I hope we potentially get some stories with Flic and Juan at the centre because I just loved these characters!

One Night Only was such a great, fun, and easy read, perfect if you are in a mood for romance with a heart.

Abby is convinced that her long term relationship is about to reach its fairytale moment-a proposal in Paris! After three years with James, she is certain this European trip will change everything and it does, but not in a way she was expecting it. Being dumped in Paris was definitely not on Abby’s bingo card. Now she is forced to face a life she no longer recognizes. She doesn’t want to back home, it never felt like it anyway. The life she thought she built with James was not really her life, it was his. So instead she decides to accept a job offer that was hanging in the air since before the trip. This choice becomes the foundation of her healing journey…focused on independence, self-discovery, and rebuilding her confidence on her own terms.

I fell in love with the mmc. Lewis is an ultimate green flag! Men, please take notes. He’s supportive, mature, and respectful of Abby’s growth. Their connection felt natural and comforting.

This story seamlessly blends romance with personal growth. It’s not just about falling in love again, but also about choosing yourself first, and allowing love to follow when the time is right.

For a debut novel, this was such a strong and enjoyable read. I can’t wait to see what Laura has in store next!

Things you’ll find in One Night Only:
💕work romance
💕mmc who is an ultimate green flag
💕yearning, lots of it
💕healing and self discovery
💕he falls first and hard
💕forced proximity

For a debut novel this romance novel was really well written. From the very first page I was hooked and I kept reading until the end as I wanted to know what happened. I loved Abby and Lewis's chemistry and I wanted them to have their happy ending. Plus there were some spicy scenes. I also loved the place settings in the story. I highly recommend it and I look forward to reading more by the author.

After meeting and falling had over heels for James, Abby packs up her life and moves from Adelaide to Melbourne so James can further his football career

Her life now revolves around his schedule of trainings and games and while the other football girlfriends are friendly, she doesn’t seem to ever find her place or people in Melbourne

But relationships are about sacrifice right..?! And Abby knows she is doing the right thing for James and is very excited for their upcoming European holiday and believes he might pop the question in Paris. But on the night she though she was getting engaged she was horribly dumped

The next day Abby rapidly changes her plans to meet her best friend Flic in Switzerland. Flic has been trying to convince her to join her there for the dream job she has always wanted. Now with no James to worry about she agrees. She’ll enjoy one more night in Paris and then fly out.

While enjoying a complimentary champagne at the hotel, she meets Mr Broad Shoulders and is swept off her feet for the most amazing one night stand

As soon as Abby arrives at the job in Switzerland which is redesigned an iconic hotel, she realises this really is her dream job and can’t wait to get started

That is until Flic introduces her to her new boss.. Mr Broad Shoulders (aka Lewis) from her one night stand in Paris… !

I absolutely loved this book! Abby and Lewis are wonderful MC’s with the ultimate slow burn tension! Flic is an epic best friend (“She’s got a mouth like a sailor, the timing of a stand-up comedian, and a heart so stupidly big it barely fits in her loud, glittery chest. ” )

The travel, the mystery, the heartbreak and slow burn and spice are on point with the dual POV of Abby & Lewis. It gave me big romcom movie vibes 🙌

Devoured in a day! Highly recommend 🤩

Thank you so much to the author for my gifted ARC

One Night Only is not only an easy-to-read romcom that sweeps you away for a few hours, but it’s also a debut novel! After all this story had to offer, I know we will be seeing more from this author.

Abby, our witty and bubbly Aussie FMC, finds herself in a quaint village among the Swiss Alps perfusing a fresh start. (Honestly, as she should. GoodBYE James.) But the moment, she meets her new boss, it appears that fresh start won’t be so fresh, because Abby and Lewis? They shared a night together in Paris. Lewis, our MMC, is broody but also patient and considerate. These two easily fall into a routine together, clicking instantly, but no worries, there is still plenty of banter, chaos, and awkward moments of them trying to be professional in the workplace.

Flic is the ultimate bestie to Abby and a tremendous side character to add into this story. I found each side character to add their own unique flare to the storyline. Overall, this read was light and fun. The storyline felt line an early 2000s romcom comfort movie.

Add it to your ever-growing tbr and support a new author! You won’t regret it. Thank you to author Laura Bakhtiarian for the eARC! All opinions are my own.

Happy Publication Day to One Night Only, the debut novel from Aussie author Laura Bakhtiarian. This wonderfully swoony and heartwarming romance was so easy to burn through in a weekend. I really did not want to stop reading.

Abby Yard has upended her life to follow her footballer boyfriend to Melbourne, so when her best friend offers her a dream job designing a luxury hotel in Switzerland she’s torn. She plans to make her decision after her much anticipated European holiday with her boyfriend where she’s expecting him to propose in Paris. Unfortunately things don’t work out as expected and instead Abby’s life is thrown into turmoil. Turmoil that includes a one night stand with an incredibly hot guy who she can’t stop thinking about.

I don’t really want to tell you anymore than that as I want you to read the book to fill in the details. What I can say is that I loved it! Abby was a relatable, driven and talented woman and I was very much invested in her story. The beautiful European settings and lifestyle had me smitten too and were the perfect place for a romance.

Of course, the MMC was absolutely gorgeous! Successful, caring, protective and swoonworthy. I loved that we got his POV as well.

My favourite part of this book though was the friendship between Abby and her best friend, Flic. The two of them shared such a nurturing and loyal friendship, always lifting each other up and being there when needed.

One Night Only was a warmhearted hug of a book and if you enjoy tropes like forced proximity, second chance and age gap, then you will love it too.

Thank you so much @laurabakhtiarian for the gifted digital copy. I cannot wait for more people to read it.

This was such a fun, easy read—pure rom-com perfection.

From the moment Abby flies to Paris expecting a proposal and instead gets spectacularly dumped, I knew I was in for one of those early-2000s rom-com experiences where the universe feels like it’s punking the heroine… and honestly? I was here for it.

The setup is deliciously chaotic in the best way: a one-night stand in Paris, a fresh start in Switzerland, and then—boom—he’s her new boss and her flatmate. Predictable? Yes. Predictable in the best way? Also yes. This is exactly the kind of story you reach for when you want comfort, chemistry, and that cosy “I know where this is going and I’m excited anyway” feeling.

The pacing is spot on, bonus points for the humour, the workplace/roommate chaos, and Lewis being peak broody-but-swoonworthy. And extra love for supporting a home-grown Aussie author who clearly said, “Yep, I’m writing a book,” and absolutely nailed it.

If you love classic rom-com vibes and stories that feel like your favourite comfort movie in book form, this one is for you.

Thank you to the author for an early copy. All opinions are my own.

Happy publication day to Laura Bakhtiarian, her debut novel One Night Only has been unleashed on the world.
I devoured this pleasure quest in just a few sittings, it gave me all the f words I love, fun, flirting and ……. well I’m sure you can use your imagination here.
There were so many laugh out loud moments and the simmering slow burn sexiness that makes a rom com unputdownable!
The setting of this book is simply stunning and I could imagine every scene in my mind. Laura went above and beyond to do her research and drop reader directly into this picturesque dreamworld.
The spice level is hot, hot, hot and delivered with just the perfect amount of tension to keep you salivating while you turn the pages at warp speed.
I cannot wait to see what comes next for Laura and I for one will be lining up to get my hands on a copy.
Thank you to the author for my early reading copy, what a way to kick off your writing debut, congratulations!

4.5 stars!!

If you’re looking for a wholesome, feel good read, this will be definitely up your alley.

The Authors use of imagery and description makes it feel like you are really there with the characters, watching as every event unfolds. The writing is genuinely what makes this book so engaging, there’s no wonder how i finished it so quickly!

The characters are extremely likeable and easy to connect with. Each individual character adds something warm, quirky, and entertaining to the story, except for James of course (iykyk). One night only, is the kind of book where you enjoy spending time with the characters and learning about their traits, just as much as following the plot, and the spicy scenes in this book, absolutely. 10/10. I highly recommend this read! I can’t wait to read more from this author!

One Night Only by Laura Bakhtiarian is such an impressive debut. Laura absolutely nailed it.

This book put me through all the emotions and yes, it’s a slow burn, but the kind that makes the payoff completely worth it. I’m a sucker for an age gap romance, and this one delivered.

Abby and Lewis have a one night stand in Paris, thinking that’s where their story ends. But when Abby flies to Lauterbrunnen, Switzerland to start a new job, she discovers her new boss is none other than her Paris fling. Oh, and they’re also sharing an apartment.

The chemistry between Abby and Lewis was undeniable. If you love a little slow burn, age gap romance workplace tension, and characters that make you feel, this one is definitely worth picking up 💫📚

I was very lucky to get an advanced copy of this book, a first for me! One Night Only was fun, guilty pleasure reading, and the first romance novel I've read since Olivia Goldsmith was writing them. Lewis is the pefect leading man, even if I'm personally team dad-bod! But for me, the real fantasy in this book was the escapism of starting all over again. Abby was able to rebuild herself, her self worth, and her life, in this beautiful new place, supported by new community. That desire surely resonates with all of us. As does the true love of any girl's life, her best friend (with pastries!). Also love hearing my home town of Adelaide get a little shout out! Surely just the first of many stories for this exciting new author.

This read was just what I needed for a change. Fast paced and kept me turning the pages!
With Abby being a girl from Adelaide, I felt the need to keep turning those pages to make sure she got the outcome she deserved!
Not too many characters which meant the storyline was easy to follow and kept it real.
I had a perfect image in my head at all times of the characters, the settings and the scenery thanks to Laura’s very descriptive writing style.
With some spice added in at regular intervals (thank you Laura!) and a storyline that kept me interested, this was a fantastic and fun first novel which makes me look forward to the follow up!

A lighthearted, wholesome escape that was so easy to fall into. With the perfect balance of sweet + spice 🌶️, that was enough to make you blush without overwhelming the story.
The characters are fantastic in their own ways and the humour was spot on. The chemistry between Abby and Lewis was 🤌🏻

The way Laura has written this novel makes it feel like you are right there with the characters in the Swiss Alps. 😍

I feel like a felt more connected to Abby with her being from Adelaide.

A lovely read from a first-time author and I can’t wait to see what else Laura has in store.
Highly recommend you give this one a read!

When she starts over single with a new job in a new country…and finds that her new boss was none other than her unforgettable one night stand, Abby does her best to not let a romantic relationship derail her life again. Lewis takes everything in stride, however, being understanding and patient as he cannot believe the one that got away is back in close proximity to him. Their tension and chemistry was undeniable, with their happily ever after in sight but seemingly just out of reach until it wasn’t. A solid, enjoyable, workplace romcom that brought a beautiful setting, blushes, laughs and swoons. Congratulations to the author on her debut!

This is such a strong, confident debut for a new author, and Laura should be incredibly proud. The pacing was addictive, the chemistry was undeniable, and the emotional pull stayed with me long after the last page.

Okay wow; firstly thank you so much Laura for sending me your story and trusting me with it. I am in love. Abby and Lewis are just the dreamiest couple.
I love reading books by Aussie authors, and I really loved the setting of this book being European.
Abby was so strong and deserved so much more than James. This is your sign to always choose Lewis over James lol.

Lewis was just, ugh, incredible. I love book boyfriends. He was so wholesome and everything Abby needed in life. I can’t wait for the next book!!! Oh and also, I loved Flic. She reminds me of my bestie. Everyone needs a Flic.

It’s a fun journey for Abby and I enjoyed the lightheartedness of it but also enjoyed delving deeper into her emotions and feelings. I think Lewis is a great match for Abby and is so patient he makes her feel so calm and special 🥹

The setting is amazing and makes me want to go to Switzerland asap!

This was such a fun Rom Com story between Abby and Lewis! Their chemistry was so good. Abby has a one night stand after an embarrassing and heartbreaking public breakup. Lewis/Mr. Broad shoulders rocks her socks off, as Abby sneaks off in the night to leave with fond memories of her one night stand…. Then in true romcom form come to find out Lewis is Abby‘s new boss. This was a very cute book that I completed in two days. Lewis was by far my favorite character. If you’re looking for a fun read add this to your TBR.

Read it within the day! This book was such a fun and easy read, perfect to switch up your genres or to get you out of a reading slump!

Did we know where it was going? Of course. Did the cliches come as a surprise? Of course not! But nevertheless there was spice, romance, suspense, [sexual] tension, giggles and healing

Very keen to see the next chapter for these two…or maybe a few of the other characters we met along the way..

A perfect start to this debut author. I was captivated by the characters and story, and devoured this book in 24 hours. Laura captures the rawness and vulnerability of both characters beautifully and delivers a love story that we all hope for. The sex scenes are enough to make you blush but not over the top. One Night Only is a perfect balance of heartbreak, rebuilding, love and raunch. Would definitely recommend - 4.5/5 ✨

The book was really relaxing and beautiful. I could imagine myself in the alps mountains with a beautiful view. Lewis and abby was so cute and refreshing character. It was such a cozy book which really goes will with this holiday season.
My favourite quote from this book has to be “MAYBE LOVE DOESN'T HAVE TO BE LOUD. Maybe it's quiet. Steady. Already here.”

For a debut novel she really did a great job. I would love if they have a sequel. <3

This was such a fun read. I was sent this book by the author who found me on my page and I have to say this book was every romcom lovers dream. All your favorite romcom, tropes, witty banter a little sizzling tension in this book has the perfect equation. Abby is fun and lovable, but has her heart smashed to pieces in the beginning of this book and while you hurt for her, you’re cheering her on the entire book as she rebuilds herself. Lewis is MMC dreams!
