This book offers a vision of possibilities to those who wish to study the intricate relations between the verbal and the visual during the Spanish Golden Age. Writing, during the early modern period, often had a strongly visual component. Poets and other writers of fiction appealed to this sense in particular since it was thought that visualization was key to memory. Furthermore, the sisterhood and competition between painting and poetry had an ancient heritage, one that writers of the Golden Age often evoked and emulated.
