Read and re-read them in Dutch. Captain Cobwebb by Gordon Boshell consists of eleven children's books. Main characters in the books are brothers David and Toby Green and their Uncle Septimus Cobwebb, who is called Captain Cobwebb. As a young man Septimus decided to spend a night sitting in a fairy ring which resulted in him going off to live with the fairies as well as becoming invisible. The books usually begin with the boys getting bored, for example during a rainy day or lying in bed when ill. They then call on their Uncle to send them on an adventure, usually to a magical land far, far away. After their first adventure ("Captain Cobwebb") Uncle Septimus rewards the boys with a magical blue spot on their hand which they can touch to request an adventure. The books have a number of different themes such as pirates and cowboys-and-indians. As well as a typical range of heroic characters and talking animals the stories include more unusual characters, creatures and situations which make the books very memorable.
Had to add this one, picture the scene a 10 year old kid who hates reading and struggles with English at school in a one to one with his favourite teacher is handed this book and advised to give it a go.. I never ever looked back. A big thank you to the Mrs Currie. In fact if anyone knows where I can get a copy of these books please drop me a line.
