A very unusual premise for the Dangerous in Dallas miniseries began in the first book, and this story takes what was previously learned and adds more mysteries to further complicate the lives of three best friends. Hidden gemstones are connected to a murder, and those who are being affected by someone’s greed must be careful or they could be next. A strong-minded detective works with a stubborn caterer, and neither could have predicted how this association would change both of their futures. Unpredicted threats and emotional issues make TEMPTING TARGET riveting plus constantly stirring.

The wedding boutique run by three friends is doing very well with few complications, but all that changes when someone broke into Elegance and Lace. Turns out rare gemstones had been concealed in the building long before they started using it for their business, and luckily the thief could not get to them. Since not everything is known pertaining to who committed the crime, the businesswomen fear what might happen next.

Each of the owners provides a different service for their company, and Lilah Castle does much of the catering. Her specialty is baking the delicious pastries that are served during the festive events, and the career brings her much happiness. But the discovery of the gemstones has placed her in danger, and it is hard to forget how her life has been recently upended. The local Dallas detective working the case is concerned about her safety, and Reed Graystone plans to make certain no harm comes to the delectable beauty. When it becomes apparent her traumatic background history might also play a part in the peril she and her friends are facing, the compassionate assistance from Reed might make Lilah once again open up to a man.

Friendship is a big part of the Dangerous in Dallas miniseries, and this fact is certainly obvious during many scenes of the story. Whether it is the two longtime friends of Lilah or the three men who have recently come into their lives, each one demonstrates their willingness to assist others for whom they care. Occasionally it is just encouraging words while sometimes an action provides support. But one guarantee is that genuine concern will be fueling any responses. Addison Fox knows how to make her characters always have true-to-life reactions, and there are definitely plenty of instances in TEMPTING TARGET where real feelings ranging from hurtful anger to passionate desire are conveyed. Numerous times in the story had me sympathizing with a particular character, as the sentiments they were expressing seemed so sincere. There was one moment where Reed is talking with Lilah that left me deeply affected because the discussion is especially meaningful. I truly do not know when any comments made by a character have touched me in such a manner. These two have lots to overcome before their relationship can flourish, as Ms. Fox kept tossing obstacles their way.

Several of the mysteries pertaining to the gemstones were revealed in the first novel, and these details are spoken about in the second book to help anyone catch up. More questions get answered in this story, and one resolution is absolutely shocking. Threats to Lilah and her friends could come from an unidentified source at any time, and the level of suspense keeps building until all situations play out. Addison Fox cleverly interweaves the peril and romance, thus making TEMPTING TARGET enthralling plus heartrending.

Very good continuation of the series. It can be read as a stand alone, as backstory is filled in, but it is better read in order to get the full story. It's a few days after the end of the first book and the women are trying to get caught back up with their business. But none of them can forget the jewels they have and the man who will kill to get them. The book focuses on Lilah, the baker of the business.

Detective Reed Graystone has made it his mission to stay close to Lilah. As the investigator in this case, he is concerned for Lilah's safety. He's not sure that she fully understands just how much danger she is in and he is determined to keep her safe. As he learns more about her and her past, he's impressed with her strength and drawn to the sweetness underneath that strength. As he gets closer to her, I loved his comments about her being a "sugar pusher" and how addictive she is.

Lilah has avoided men ever since the end of her marriage to an abusive man. With the trouble that has come with the discovery of the jewels, she is surprised that she is so comfortable around the three men who have become part of their lives, especially Reed. Besides feeling safe when he is nearby, she is also feeling an attraction she's never felt before. But although she escaped from her marriage, the effects of her husband's abuse are still with her. Most of the time she is very confident in her new life, but now and then she gets really down on herself for what she sees as her stupidity in not seeing him for what he was.

As the investigation continues, the six of them search for the connections that set off the attacks. In the previous book, Cassidy's brother-in-law and ex-fiance had been discovered to be involved, but they suspect that there is more. Further discussion among them leads to Lilah's ex-husband. I loved seeing the way that Lilah insisted on being part of an attempt to discover if he is involved. The scene in the restaurant was fantastic, and Lilah's attitude toward him was great. The attack on Reed and Lilah later that night was nerve wracking, and they were lucky to come out of it as well as they did.

Once again there was someone pulling strings behind the scenes, and danger comes directly to Lilah. It brought back so many fears and bad memories that she could barely move, and she ended up hurting Reed because of it. I understood his feelings and hers, and I loved that they were able to talk it out.

At this point the identity of the man behind the scenes is revealed. While I had begun to suspect, it was still something of a shock. As he makes another attempt at the rubies, the danger gets even more intense. Once again our cast is safe, but resolution is just out of reach. I am really looking forward to the next book and seeing how it all works out.

Interesting look into the behind the scenes of restaurant ownership. Quick read. Fast romance. Abrupt ending. Bit of a cliff-hanger, but expected when there are three friends looking for romance.

Wish I knew what the outcome of the people w/ the other rubies was and the guy who was trying to get all the people w/ them or if he and his sidekicks that were left were ever permanently caught.
