By day, Mason is a server at Willow’s on the Water, a local restaurant in town. By night, he’s got herbs on the windowsill, moonwater by the sink, and a gift for seeing the dead. He’s learned to live with both… until a stranger rolls into town in a battered old motorcycle, stormy eyes, and scars he doesn’t talk about.
Rhys McAllister is a werewolf who swears he’s just passing through. His wolf says otherwise. Drawn to Mason with a pull he can’t outrun, Rhys means to keep his distance. That is, until a disappearance on the edge of town turns the porch lights wary and the gossip mean.
As a predator circles and the past claws free, Mason and Rhys have two follow the bond that could save them both, or let fear (and the monsters it feeds) tear Hickory Ridge apart.
For readers who grew up on Sabrina the Teenage Witch & Charmed, fell in love with Practical Magic, and still crave a good Nancy Drew style mystery.
Trey writes queer stories full of haunted houses, found family, and boys who fall in love when they really, really shouldn’t. When not wrangling witches and monsters on the page, Trey can usually be found hoarding candles, doom-scrolling real estate in tiny coastal towns, or rolling dice with their D&D group. They live in Ohio with an alarming number of tea mugs and not nearly enough bookshelves.
This was an extremely enjoyable read, filled with characters you can’t help but relate to and fall in love with. The author explores fear, desire hope and community in a beautiful and endearing way. Couldn’t wait to find out how it would end and dreaded the story being over in equal measure. 10/10 Trey does a really great job of reeling you in and peppers in just enough humor you feel as if the characters are your own old friends.
Oh I loved this story ....it just drew me in from the first chapter. The story-telling is whimsical and beautiful....honestly, it felt like I was sitting with friends & family. This has a small town setting with a slow burn attraction between the MC's and add in the supernatural feel with a bit of suspense and mystery and you've got a well rounded story. The story is heart-warming, funny (love the interactions between the characters) and romantic. And the twists gave the story a bit of extra punch...it does end on HEA, but it seems there's more trouble brewing..... Seriously can't wait for book # 2 !!!
Mason and Rhys story is truly fantastical. The initial twist was a little late in the story for my personal taste but that second “bam” really made it worth while! And Just enough spice to balance out the intense emotions! A fantastic first release!
Practical Magic meets Teen Wolf. I can say with full honesty, I didn't want to put it down.
480ish pages consumed in a three day time span, first book of 2026 and it set a very high bar for what I expect from future reads.
The story was quaint, relatable, sweet and dripping with details that make you feel as if you live in Mason's worn-out Willow's t-shirt. That Aunt Norah will quip from the kitchen to get your butt in gear, it's time for witch lessons. That you'll feel Rhys staring at you from across the room with those storm grey eyes, sending a shot of heat up your neck.
There's family love, light romance, and plot twist drama that makes you kick your feet just a little. Everything about the characters make you want to just squeeze them, meet them at the Fox for a drink and be a part of the tiny town of Hickory Ridge.
The characters are themselves a whole identity, with the added detail of being a supernatural person. It's not an entire personality, it's an added bonus.
The romance is light and yearning. A few steamy moments catch you by surprise, burning hot and quick. Fated mates feels a strong label for what these two share, it's not forced it's growing young love.
You will tear up. There are moments that tug at your heart strings and make you want to hug Your Person. Helping you remember why we latch onto the people in our lives so tightly.
My only concern with this story is I crave more of these characters. It feels as though Mason and Rhys are just getting started in their journey together, and I want to follow them wherever they go next.
