Susan Hyatt wrote this book "when I recognized a marked difference between the manner in which the Lord Jesus related to me personally and the manner in which His Body, the Church, has related to me simply because I am a woman." Much of the material in the product of research and academic papers that she wrote for graduate, post-graduate, and doctoral courses in biblical, theological and historical studies.
Today's hierarchical and patriarchal theology is formed- knowingly or ignorantly- from pagan, misogynous philosophy. In fact, it takes "manipulation of scripture to promote patriarchy!"
What did Genesis really say about women? What did Paul really say about women? Why has the Church been so willing to adopt a false understanding of women through patriarchal insistence? And why do some men and women refuse to divide scripture rightly in favor of maintaining patriarchal belief at all costs?
Susan Hyatt does the most amazing job of carefully, precisely, and biblically laying out the truth about scripture and women. And she does it without bitterness. Her desire is that "greater realization of truth will empower all of us- men and women- to be better partners with the Holy Spirit and with one another."
This is a great resource. (And she dedicates the book to her husband.)
