I was sixteen when I found out not only am I an alien hybrid, but monsters called the Tai-Kok were getting ready to invade our world. Guess who gets to stop them? Me. How?
My uncle, the mad scientist, created a machine called the portal that instantaneously sends a test subject from one location to another by converting them into energy. His idea is to port me onto a Tai-Kok ship. All I have to do is leave a bomb, hit the retrieval button on my spiffy traveler’s belt and poof! I’m back on Earth before the Tai-Kok ship goes kaboom. Sounds simple, right?
Wrong. Uncle Ben doesn’t have a clue where I’ll actually appear on the ship. It could be the engine room, the crew quarters, or even the bridge. It’s like playing Russian roulette. The Tai-Kok don’t like surprises or uninvited guests.
To make things even more fun, I have an alien battle commander stuck in my head and I’m related to a powerful Coletti warlord. Yippee. The chances of me living to see eighteen aren’t good.
I was a 9-1-1 dispatcher for thirty-one years and to keep insanity at bay, I took up writing. Not to worry. The insanity isn’t catching – much. Other than the addiction to chocolate and the twitch in my left eye, I’m good. I just finished, Stilettoes and Gunpowder book #3 in the Gemma Stone series.
At first, when voracious aliens first invaded earth, a young psychic teen girl and her wacky scientist uncle are all that stand between humanity and utter slaughter. They are joined by others, but humanity can’t do it alone. They soon learn, help comes with a price.
Gail Koger’s Coletti Warlord’s series has always been an entertaining exciting pleasure to read. It gets zany and over the top, but in all the best ways. I call these “my personal outer space escapes“ and they never fail to make me laugh at the shenanigans, squirm with the spicy moments, and sit riveted when an action scene is going down.
Undisciplined Catalyst may be the 19th installment in the series, but newbies to the series can easily jump in at this point. Undisciplined Catalyst is the introduction to what will be a new spinoff series set in the Coletti Warlord world. The events of this book coincide with the events of the first book, Just My Luck (which is out of print at the moment).
Undisciplined Catalyst begins when Lexi’s dad gets called up for duty in the Middle East. It’s just been them since her mom died, but he has to leave her with his brother who is the one to tell her about her real family heritage. Uncle Ben is an eccentric scientist who lives in a bunker out in the Nevada desert. He’s invented a travel portal and, she soon discovers, he was on the level about the alien he captured. Lexi has psychic ability and learns through the Tai-Kok alien’s mental thought pictures that his race is going to invade earth and eat all living beings.
I loved following along as Ben sends Lexi through the portal to leave bombs on the alien ships. Lexi has a whoospie when the portal glitches and drops her down on another alien race’s ship and this puts the Coletti Empire on notice that earth and humans exist out there somewhere and are fighting the Tai-Kok, too. Battle Commander Kaelen takes a keen interest in feisty Lexi before she zips back through the portal.
Then the invasion happens and Lexi’s dad gets home with General Saul Jones in tow. After recovering from their shock over what Lexi has been doing, they get up to speed and join the fight. Saul’s whole Jones‘ clan is psychic and gets to work helping the humans fight and survive. But yes, they are out-gunned by a more advanced race so can’t say no when the Coletti get involved and need something in exchange.
With earth in shambles, Lexi gets assigned along with her dad and Jake Jones to the new version of policing where call outs might mean fighting aliens who drop in for a chomp or keeping people from raiding the stores for more than their allotted rations.
Space battles, alien-human battles on earth, sexy and bossy alpha alien warlords, psychic gifts and fun characters behind a likeable heroine fill Undisciplined Catalyst and make it an abso-fab start to the new Cops in Space series set in the Coletti Warlords‘ world.
I rec'd an eARC from the author to read in exchange for an honest review.
My full review will post at That's What I'm Talking About on 1.22.26
It was such an enjoyable read. I found out it was published by accident and I am so glad I saw it. I liked the way the female lead was from the head Colletti bloodline. Lots of action, humor and action. Looking forward to the space police books. I adore the Colletti Warlord series.
This is your best one yet. I love them all but I love the way you moved us through the story. You are a genius. Thanks for keeping the Coletti story alive.
the Coletti world intersects with Earth pre Kaylee and her mate's meet-up, before Zarek found Earth.... but not before the Tai-kok found Earth. The start of a new off shoot of the Coletti world. Let the hijinx begin
I love this series and wait each new one with great anticipation. I enjoy reading about the heroes from previous books and each book is very well written
Undisciplined Catalyst by Gail Koger is a short sci-fi comedy novel in the Coletti Warlord series by the author. Our main character, Lexi, who is 16 and finds out that she had an alien mother from a planet called Tanith. She also shares telepathic powers and is able to read people's minds and tell when people lie about things. She is dropped off at a facility with her Uncle Ben who teaches her about aliens and who she really is, the fact that she is a hybrid. Lexi listens into an alien one day who is on Earth to bring his race of aliens to eat the populous and then destroy the planet. Lexi's uncle makes a miscalculation and she ends up in the presence of Battle Commander Kaelen on his ship. Kaelen is a Coletti commander who happens to drink blood like a vampire, he is also gruff, angry that Lexi got on his ship, and dreamy:) I really liked this book as the story is very engaging overall. I was taken in on page one into Lexi's world and couldn't wait for Kaelen to find Lexi again! I liked the mind link between these two, it made the story very interesting to read, especially as I love a possessive male character and Kaelen is all of that and more. I recommend this one to fans of sci-fi comedies!
This was a great start to the new year and a new series. Gail Koger books always make me chuckle and they just make me happy. Can’t wait for more Coletti, or really anything written by Ms. Koger.
“Hey! I can take care of myself, and you make me sound like Calamity Jane.”
This is the beginning. Of what? I'm glad you asked: The beginning of the chaos The beginning of the invasion The beginning of feisty Earth women and their oh-so-grumpy growly Coletti warriors finding each other and falling head over heels in love - most of the time Oh, and the beginning of “Cops in Space.”
Long before the Coletti’s arrived on Earth, a very brave and fierce young lass (that would be our heroine Lexi) was commissioned into her Uncle’s bizarre plan to save Earth from becoming an all-you-can-eat buffet for an alien race.
Originally, Lexi was not too keen on the idea. But when she got her first taste of the mayhem she could deliver, well, her booty-kicking no-ducks-given side awoke fully, and indulged in every boom-boom blast she could.
During one of those excursions (for lack of a better descriptor), she landed herself in the lap of one very big, very handsome, and very angry Coletti Warrior (her uncle was still working on getting the "landing" coordinates right, but he was getting better). A Coletti warlord who would eventually become her partner and mate. Once he found her, that is.
Until then, she (with the psychic help of Kaelen, her Coletti warrior) and her family and friends would do their best to keep the people of Earth alive.
This is one of those series I highly recommend. Great characters. Adventurous storylines. Fiesty heroines. Suspense. Mayhem. Lots and lots of humour. Sweet romance. More mayhem.
I absolutely adore this series of books by Gail Koger. This latest one doesn't disappoint.
Lexi (like all of Gail's female lead characters) is strong, vibrant and relatable. Lexi is a teen in this book (which I thought might be weird reading but it wasn't!). I love the snark and sass Lexi gives her family and the Coletti warlord Kaelen.
This series is a great series to read - great dialogue, characters you can relate to - even though it's totally sci-fi and kick @ss. Gail keeps each story action packed and it is easy to dive in from page 1 and be hooked until the end.
Along with the characters, story and descriptions - there is plenty of humor and of course romance along the way.
I am sad that the Colletti series "may" be coming to an end (have there been 19 already?! I was just having fun!) But I love the teaser at the end of the book indicating a possible spin off series with "COPS".
I cannot recommend this series high enough! Go read them! Worth every penny you spend!
A fast, funny sci-fi adventure, Undisciplined Catalyst delivers chaotic action and a snarky teen heroine who’s impossible not to root for. Koger blends danger and humor effortlessly, making this a quick and thoroughly entertaining read.
Absolutely Brilliant from start to finish. I honestly couldn't put this book down until I had finished it as I wanted to know what happens. I would definitely recommend giving this a read.
