The search for the perfect woman was going exactly to plan... Until it wasn't.
Bracha Cohen plans everything, even her grief. So when her late mother's dying wish is for her to settle down, Bracha does what any logical perfectionist would do: she makes a checklist for the perfect wife. Nine points. Non-negotiable. Armed with her list, she leaves Sydney’s bars for Tel Aviv’s hostels but between bad dates, kibbutz mishaps, and two very different women, Bracha’s perfect plan quickly unravels.
As family drama unfolds and she is forced to confront her grief, Bracha must decide if love is about meeting the criteria, or finding the person who makes her want to throw the list away.
I absolutely enjoyed The 10 Point Women, it struck the perfect balance between heartfelt moments and humour. The way the story moved from grief to flirting with joyful giggles felt so real and kept me hooked from start to finish.
I even found myself properly laughing out loud at a few scenes! (And left wondering what I have terribly mispronounced on my travels.)
I hope this isn’t the end for these characters, it feels like the perfect setup for a series, and I’d love to follow their journeys and see where life takes each of them next.
Wonderful book, definitely recommend. I don't normally read romance books however this novel, although looking quite short, is packed with emotions and charming characters. I think that everyone will relate to something in this novel whether that being personal stories of finding love, facing grief or having family/friends who are facing mental health issues or addictions. This story is made up of a great balance of humor and sadness.
It's totally not my genre: I'm an historical fiction, fantasy, sci-fi or as I get older (Men over 40 don't read novels, didn't you know?) increasingly non-fiction kind of guy.
I don't read Rom-Coms... but I do watch rather a lot. So, I picked it up and found that... 1. Hava Mendelle can write: it's an easy read, with none of the awkwardness of text I have encountered, particularly in first novels. Really pleasant. 2. It's well-paced, with a bouncing storyline. 3. There's laughs, but while light in tone overall it contains real grief and genuine feeling.
Overall, an enjoyable read and a great recommendation.
My advice to anyone stuck in other genres is... stretch yourself far enough to reach this book.
I was surprised how much I enjoyed this. It came recommended by a friend, and the genre is not something I would normally read. But from the start, the writing style and characters had me hooked. To the point where I really looked forward to picking it up each time to see how the story developed. Hava is a great writer. And I really hope to see more books in the future.
