In the heart of Maple Grove, where fresh snow softens every street and the last of the Christmas lights glow against the winter night, Simone Turner has built the life she always wanted. Her pet hotel, Heart and Soul, is her pride, her purpose, and the way she cares for the town she never left.
Then Aiden Abbott returns. He’s her best friend’s older brother, newly home from military service with a wounded shoulder and quieter scars he won’t speak of. Simone has secretly carried feelings for him since she was sixteen, but now he’s a man struggling to find his footing in a world that feels forever changed.
As New Year’s draws near, their paths keep crossing, from morning dog walks to snowy evenings that feel softer when he’s near. Something gentle and undeniable begins to bloom between them, even as fear whispers that love can be fragile…and that Aiden may not be ready to stay.
With her friends’ encouragement and a town full of warm, meddling hearts, Simone must decide whether to risk her heart, and Aiden must learn whether he can trust someone to love him past the broken pieces.

All of the Maple Grove books can be read as interconnected stand-alones with sweet and clean HEAs!
Author Nova Walsh writes culinary cozy mysteries full of humor, shenanigans, and friendships that last a lifetime. She mixes in a healthy dose of amateur sleuthing, some slow-burn romance, and a pinch of comedy in every book she writes. Nova is a former chef/caterer who still loves to cook but loves to write even more. She’s an enthusiastic, if not totally successful gardener who loves travel, wine, and hanging out with friends. Nova grew up in the southwest, and now lives in Galveston, Texas, with her husband, son, and dogs. When she isn’t writing, she’s often cooking, spending time with family, or reading a good book with a pup by her side.
Nova Walsh is among my very favorite authors. Her books make me feel like I’m right in the story. Friendships and family are the center of her stories and I want to move to the towns where they take place. This story made me long for the small town where I grew up.
I fell in love with this story in the very beginning. It helped that I was familiar with most of the characters, I want to be friends with all of them. Plus, an added bonus was the lovely Christmas setting.
As a retired librarian I love book covers and the covers of hers are so appealing.
Such a beautiful shirt and clean series. It felt good to close it out with Simone’s story and taking it into the New Year!
Here’s a quote I loved the speaks to Maple Grove
“A lot of people didn’t like the idea of small towns where everybody knew everybody else’s business, but I wasn’t one of them. The sight of people I’d known since childhood made me feel safe and loved, and I smiled and waved to the people I knew as we passed.”
Another quote that summarizes this book and life perfectly:
“I looked around at my friends—my family, really—knowing that this was what lasting love looked like. Not grand gestures or perfect moments, but shared meals, second chances, and the quiet joy of finding your place in the world.”
Simone has her pet hotel and when Natalie’s older brother, Aiden returns from the war, she’s hoping she can help him out and try not to fall back in love with him. They both fail
