The animals are great choices for a coloring book, many of them actually have very vibrant colors in nature, like the mantis shrimp-so grateful it was in here, it was really fun to color!
I know that this is not a *real* field guide, but in calling itself that, I expected more scientific accuracy. For example, there is an illustration of a scarlet macaw labeled as a blue-naped parrot. I’m no ornithologist, but I do like having references when I’m coloring real animals, and my reference didn’t look much like what was on the page.
Yes, that’s nitpicking. Yes, I’m an animal nerd. I still gave four stars because it’s a wonderful book! A few inconsistencies really isn’t worth turning it away. This would make a great gift for an animal lover!

“Creatures Great and Small” is a fun and appealing take on the adult coloring book trend with captivating drawings sure to inspire creativity and curiosity in kids and grownups alike.

The realistic depictions of the creatures within are refreshing given the fantasy-like characteristics of most animal-themed coloring books. An astonishing amount of detail is in each feather, scale, stripe and spot. I found the hatching on the blue whale, the plumage on the peacock, and the fur of the mandrill particularly impressive.

With its chrome cover, sturdy construction and fascinating content, “Creatures Great and Small” could easily take residence on your coffee table. The black and white drawings are beautiful on their own. But, if you decide to grab your colored pencils and dive in, the pages can be easily torn out and framed. The quality of the paper is perfect for coloring and the thick back cover makes it easy to color on the go.

It’s also a wonderful educational tool for kids—I showed this book to my younger cousin and she loved reading the informative tidbits etched next to each creature. The intricacy of the detail might require some patience, but seasoned colorers and adults looking to unplug and unwind will enjoy the challenge.

My husband gave me this book for my birthday. As an animal lover and a fan of colouring it really was a no brainer. The facts in this book are interesting for all ages. The pictures are very close to the actual animal they represent. This was my first book I tried with watercolour pencils.
