The premise is interesting - an catastrophic failure of the net effectively causes the downfall of civilization - unfortunately it goes downhill from there. The subtitle says it is a comedy. No, not even close. I'll go with any type of humor. For example; seven year old boy's fart jokes, while not my thing, work for seven year old boys. I couldn't find the humor. That is unless the occasional single running vicious commentary of how a father wants to castrate his 17 year old daughter's virgin boyfriend who doesn't even have the courage to get a first kiss... No this isn't humor, it's just sad.

The characters who are two dimensional, are those who are the best there are. Most are barely one dimension. There isn't a single well developed character in the book. I didn't like the protagonist. He is a weenie, plays the 'oh pity me' song throughout etc. I'll not go on to skewer the other characters - they are not developed well enough to warrant the skewering. Even if it is a spoof, it should be a good spoof. I just isn't good.

That is about the story line, or lack of it, and poor characters.

How about the professionalism in writing? I read a lot of indi authors - some good, many poor and a few great and a few that just insult me as a reader. Loopback is close to falling into the last category. Just basic writer manners, like proofing before publishing would be nice. I'm not talking about the occasional 'their' instead of 'there' - those things are easy to miss. How about this paragraph:

"A smile, albeit a creepy one was returned. He then looked a fellow patrolman and signaled for him to let his now"

Yes, missing words, missing any sense, and even missing the period. This is the one that finally stopped me from reading. So at 34% through I stopped reading. I rarely don't finish a book. I can't remember ever giving a two star review before this one. In my opinion this book didn't deserve my reading time. It did deserve the two star review.

This is a bad review, Bad reviews will sting the author. For that, on a human level, I apologize. However, on a reader / consumer level, I ask please do us, the readers. a favor. Hone your story telling craft, do a better job of editing, honor the fact that the readers who love to spend an evening with a good, serious or funny, book, deserve good quality. Bottom line: If you are the author, do better. If you are a reader, look elsewhere.

Last comment. There are bound to be grammatical errors in this review. I'm not part of the grammar police. I just hoped for an enjoyable evening of reading and didn't get it.
