Their love could end a war... or ignite one.

The Bridge Kingdom meets From Blood and Ash in this sweeping romantasy where a defiant princess and her reluctant mercenary turned guard must navigate treacherous alliances, face their fears, ancient grudges, and a love that could either save their kingdoms... or destroy them.

Lyra never wanted the life chosen for her.

Caged by duty and bound by tradition, she’s spent years pushing against the future others decided she should accept. But when a political alliance forces her into the storm-ravaged kingdom she was raised to fear, Lyra finds herself face-to-face with a man who threatens to upend everything she thought she knew—about the Stormlands, and herself.

Gale thought he knew what he wanted.

Once, he had a future. A name. A place in the world. Now, he fights to survive one job at a time—until Lyra crashes into his path with fire in her voice and defiance in her eyes. Escorting her was supposed to be simple. But the closer they get, the more he begins to wonder if the future he lost is worth chasing… or if something new is calling him forward.

As tensions rise and kingdoms edge closer to war, Lyra and Gale must choose between the paths they were given—and the one they’re burning to carve for themselves.

A Kingdom of Fire & Rain is the first novel in the World of Veythara series.

I was lucky enough to be able to do a bookswap with this talented author and wow, I'm so happy that I did!

The entire story of Lyra, the princess of the Sun Kingdom, is told in such a beautiful way, the writing style is so gorgeous and satisfying to read. As a fellow author, I seriously commend Summer Ferris on her beautiful writing. The entire book is polished to an immaculate shine, too, you can tell that she spent a long time making sure that her work was perfect.

The world-building is rich and vibrant, without being too much of an info-dump! It's all digestible and smooth and delivered in a great way for the reader to actually absorb it rather than forgetting it all the second they read the next line.

The characters are real and wonderful, with flaws and problems and everything they need to make a reader fall in love with their story. The travelling scenes just felt so cosy to me as well, I love the rain and thunder and the blossoming warmth beneath the FMC and the love interest. And of course, we get dual POVs, which I LOVEEEE.

This was a great read, and I highly recommend this wonderful book <3
