A book about life itself, from a young man trying to sum up some of his experiences in pictures and words. Fragmented as life itself, but from my point of view; relevant.
Life is fun and unpredictable, at least that's my experience.'
Lars Krogh Berg, M.D. is Norwegian and works as a medical doctor. In the wonderfully warm introduction to this his first book he offers a bit of biography: `I was a young boy who wanted to be a fighter pilot, and got his dreams crushed when he was diagnosed with colorblindness. The young boy got a new dream, and wanted to be a medical doctor, worked very hard at high school, and got accepted to a medical school not far away from his hometown. He married a wonderful wife and had two great girls. He has the chance of becoming a granddad before reaching 40, but hopes it will be nearer to his 50th birthday. He found out that being a medical doctor wasn't quite what he'd expected. He had to reorient himself, and discovered that he might like to do something else. What does this make me? An expert on nothing, but curious about everything.'
This book is one to cherish again and again, offer it to friends or other loved ones for a while ,and then read it in your own silence again. Lars has selected some beautiful photographs of people known and unknown, scenes of nature, of orchestras, of food - and accompanies each of these with a thought form his own capacious mind. A few examples will demonstrate the sincerity of this book: "A doctor is a detective dressed in white. He is a living library expected to have his book collection in order. Everything is expected from a doctor. He is probably the only one to get in big legal trouble and lose his career if he forgets to investigate his patient's rectum with his forefinger." "Simply being a man in this world is not enough if you want to succeed. You also have to be female . The same goes for women. Androgenosity is the new hit - scientifically proven." "Creativity to me is not when you scramble through your deep inner thoughts in search of genius innovations and new angels. It's when your brain decides to go for a walk without your permission - and comes back and throws its findings right in your face." "To blog or not to blog , to like or not to like - that is the question. To be or not to be - was retired years ago." "Einstein was right: God doesn't play dice, neither do I. I prefer Netflix, Apple TV, and Facebook."
These thought shared with such fine choices of images are so honest, so very much of our time, and so warmly humorous and tender that it seems to this reader Dr Lars Berg will find his quotes borrowed by important writers. Joy and the pleasure of thinking abound here. Buy this book!
