Taking a stroll through the Scottish game past and present, Fanatical About Football is a collection of interviews, essays, and recollections from famous and not-so-famous fans. Soccer in Scotland has changed irrevocably over the last 50 years with an increased impact from media coverage, the regulations covering stadia, the spiralling cost of players' salaries, and even the equipment and clothing used by the players. What has not changed, however, are the memories that have woven the glorious game into the depths of the Scottish psyche. This book, with contributions from a wide perspective of Scottish society including Dougray Scott and Brian Cox, Jack McConnell and Gordon Brown, as well as authors, artists, and the man on the terraces, captures the essence of Scottish football.
This book is over ten years old and a lot of shots have flown over the bar since it was written. However it brought lots of memories flooding back for me . If you are a Scottish Football fan and of a certain vintage 55+ you may enjoy some of the words of wisdom collected here from Gordon Brown to Alex Totten via Jim Leishman and Stuart Cosgrove.
