Scout's Rainy Day is an excellent read for kids and adults, and grandparents will love reading this to their grandkids. When a rainy day keeps Scout and the barnyard animals from enjoying the Fair, they adapt and have a blast inventing other games. It's a fun way for kids to think about changing plans and engineering new fun when the original plans go south. Kudos to author Natalie Horseman for another incredible Children's Storybook and for reminding us all to be flexible and adaptable in our lives.

A cozy, feel-good read that turns rainy days into pure fun!

My kids adore Scout the goat, and Scout’s Rainy Day might be our favorite in the series so far. What starts as a gloomy, stormy day turns into a sweet adventure full of imagination, friendship, and laughter. I love how this story shows kids that it’s okay when plans change and sometimes that’s when the best memories happen! The illustrations are bright and cheerful, and Scout’s energy is contagious. It’s the perfect read for snuggling up on a rainy afternoon.

Scout the goat can’t wait for the county fair—but when a storm ruins the plans, his frustration is loud and familiar: “That’s not fair!” Young readers will instantly relate to Scout’s disappointment and cheer as his friends turn a gloomy day into a joyful barnyard fair. With playful text and charming illustrations, Scout's Rainy Day is a sweet, engaging story about handling letdowns and finding fun in unexpected places. Perfect for ages 3–7, it’s a great pick for teaching resilience, empathy, and creative problem-solving. A must-have for any child who’s ever felt let down—and every grown-up who’s helped them through it.

Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Day, is a delightful story about animals on a farm looking forward to a day at a County Fair. Scout, the ever-curious young goat, asks his animal friends what it will be like.
But when it begins to rain and the animals have to cancel their trip, the farmer brings all of the animals into the barn. Scout feels disappointed until he joins in, when his animal friends start making up fun games to play.
I think this book shows children how being creative and using ingenuity can transform a rainy outdoor day into a sunny indoor day. The illustrations are inviting and upbeat. I highly recommend this book!

Goat on the Go: Scout's Rainy Day is a charming, heartwarming read that my preschooler loved! The illustrations are bright, cheerful, and full of personality—Scout the goat is instantly lovable.

The story is simple yet engaging, teaching a sweet lesson about finding adventure and fun even when the weather isn't perfect. It’s written with a wonderful rhythm that makes it a joy to read aloud. It held my little one's attention from beginning to end, which is no small feat! A definite five stars and a must-have for any young child's bookshelf.

This book is absolutely adorable

I love how Scout the Goat gets to feel and express his emotions and no one judges him for it. He's (reasonably) disappointed that he can't go to the fair, and instead of making him feel silly for it, his friends try to comfort him, and then come up with an alternative to the fair - first without Scout, who is given space to experience his feelings, but letting him join in as soon as he feels ready to.

The illustrations are very cute as well, with nice and bright colours and lots of cute animals.

Scout's Rainy Day is a cute story about finding the fun when plans change for the worse. Scout and his friends were so excited to go to the fair but a storm forced them stay in the barn instead. While Scout was frustrated and sad about missing the fair, his friends cheered him up by finding games and activities to do right where they were! My 4 year old son's favorite part was when the animals had a race in the barn and Scout won! He also really liked Odin the horse. Thank you to Netgalley and the publisher for the advanced copy!

This book is adorable! Out on the farm a little goat named Scout is looking forward to his first visit to the county fair, but a terrible thunderstorm washes out their plans. The illustrations are cute and detailed and really add to the story. There’s a great conclusion I don’t want to spoil. Just a great picture book for bedtime or story time circles, perfect for a children’s bookshelf.

Scout's Rainy Day is a great read aloud story for parents and grandparents. It perfectly sends the message that even when things don't go our way, we can find ways to compensate and make the best of negative situations (a reminder for all of us). Natalie has a wonderful way of communicating these things gently to children. Highly recommend.

Another Enjoyable Scout Adventure!

Scout’s Rainy Day shows us how to turn a sad negative into a fun positive! When Mother Nature canceled their trip to the County Fair, Scout and all his farm animal friends created all their own fun and games in the barn! A great lesson for young children; there is always a Plan “B”.

Scout’s Rainy Day is a delightful addition to the Goat on the Go series and will help kids learn how to deal with disappointment. It’s a heart-felt ‘when life gives you lemons’ story about the value of making lemonade with your friends. As with the other books in the series, the illustrations are darling. I got an advance review copy.
