I’ve been following Paul Damian on Instagram for a while, and I’ve always been deeply moved by his words, but this book took everything to another level. His poetry feels divine, every line flows with emotion, honesty, and a quiet power that will linger long after you finish reading.
This collection isn’t just a book of poems; it’s an experience. The way he captures emotions and the fragile beauty of being human is eye-opening, as if each poem is a fragment of the soul, offered with both courage and grace.
If you’ve ever wanted to read poetry that speaks directly to the heart, this book is a must.
This collection of poems has brought some light back into my life. Truly if you are struggling and need to feel seen or understood Paul has you covered. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
I wish this book would never end! I felt like I was waking beside Paul Damian, another wandering soul and experiencing the same as he did, retracing his paths... Building up sceneries in my mind! He is awesome! He is so special! And the book is so beautiful: the arts, the design, his pictures! Had it signed by him, such a privilege! I'm going to read it over and over again! Thank you so much for sharing your art, your soul with us, Paul! A big hug, from Brasil!
I am not even finished reading the poems and letters in Paul Damian’s wonderful book but already I am moved by his work. Sometimes you read something that feels like it was meant just for you. That is how I feel reading many of these poems. We all have moments of internal struggle and Paul reminds us that we are never alone in beautifully articulated words. The beauty and wonder of being human can be deeply appreciated through Pauls words. I recommend it!
I was happy to receive this book , signed by the author himself .
The book is very interesting and somehow also very vulnerable . It’s like a collection of all the aspects of a human perception, from light to dark, like shadows looming across sunny paths .
The entirety of the book, which contains poetry, prose and personal photos , is like a journal of a life , rather than just an ordinary collection of poetry , and that is exactly its strength. It seems to come straight from the soul of the author , rawly exposed and without fitting into just one single box.. we get his life and emotions served all warmly breathing and absolutely autentic.
It’s a many-faceted book which is fascinating and beautiful and expands the impression I already had of the author from Instagram , where he appears as a beautiful , charming, self-assured person with a great speaking voice. Here , in the book, we get his intimate inner voice .
The Elegy of an Erupting Spirit by Paul Damian is an exquisite book of poetry, but more than that, it is a confession of the soul expressed through various artistic forms: poetry, prose poetry (see The Letters but not only) and photography. But above all, we have poetry here, full of substance and authenticity. When you see the cover of the book you just start to feel something. Of course, the feeling is unique from one reader to another. Moving forward, the image is a beautiful metaphor of becoming and growing, showing that the human mind or the being itself is so vast and mysterious. The poet begins to grow in his apparent silence, but beyond the silence are thoughts, mental processes, meditations. The eyes are physically closed but spiritually open, the book cover being a visual transition from the Seen to the Unseen, the latter being the perfect territory of the artist, where things expand in so many ways. Reading poem by poem, I found the following stanzas from the poem Divergent (p.45) perfectly compatible with the cover: “I need to hear nothing./ I need to see nothing./ I need to be left alone in my own orbit,/ so I can peacefully cultivate/ my own garden of Eden/ and offer back life./ I need nothing.”. “Nothing” is a word of creation. “Nothing” and “Nothingness” are concepts that elegantly dress the content of the book. They are not seen as something lifeless, their structure represents the prolific spaces of the poet, the essence or the roots of his literary creation. You may also find that the poet raises like other critics and writers a fundamental literary question: “What is poetry?” but his point of view is not rigid or heavily immersed in literary theory because we have so much life encapsulated between the pages. We need to feel more, to be ourselves and sometimes it’s good or necessary to be beyond norms and standards. This question brings up another important one: “Is poetry dead?” and the answer lies in the title of the poem We are poetry (p. 93). The poet says “we are poetry” like a magic formula, simple but effective. It is in our being to feel, to write, to read, to live and poetry is just another extension of our being, oftentimes so vital. Art is a form of elevating our spirits. We need poetry like we need air or water, we need poetry even if we are not writers. We need to listen to our poetry. Art unites us or art unites arts. Paul Damian initiated in his online community a “Call to poetry” and he included in his book some poems by authors from around the world. A beautiful artistic gesture that shows that poetry is worth seeing and spreading. Discover the poems and feel them. Beyond all these ideas about poetry, it's important to mention the manifestation of catharsis experienced by both the poet and the reader. We don’t write/read just words, we don't write just for the pleasure of writing. Ultimately, we need art to purify our beings, to rise again, to make room for new things, for a new beginning. We… are human beings and The Elegy of an Erupting Spirit is a poetic space filled with deep emotions and feelings that many of us repress. It’s time to recognize what we are and what we are not (anymore), to nourish that forgotten inner world. It’s about acceptance and a healthy way of looking at ourselves. The message of the poetry book is to find your own path and bloom like never before in your life! Be you! And you know what? When the silence of your spirit turns into poetry or into something that brings you joy, everything becomes powerful and true like a divine law.
As an admirer of Paul’s poetry posts on Instagram, I had been eagerly anticipating the release of his collection. To finally hold a signed copy of this book in my hands was a thrill, and I can confirm: it surpasses all expectations. This debut is nothing short of breathtaking, offering an intense, intimate, and profoundly healing journey into the process of spiritual emancipation and self-discovery. The book’s core theme, as described on the back cover, is 'A wounded spirit reforging itself.' This raw honesty runs through every page, creating a sanctuary where vulnerability is met with compassion. The collection guides the reader through love, loss, and, ultimately, the triumph of hope. The emotional range is striking. Poems like “Find your voice” lay down a powerful mandate for inner freedom, reminding us that the 'only solitary soul to whom you owe any accountability is your own.' Similarly, ‘Wings of Hope’ captures the exhilarating terror of renewal, painting the image of white wings spawning violently from shoulder blades—a perfect metaphor for overcoming scars and embracing the messy start of a new, greener pasture. However, the poem that truly resonated with me is “Time”. It opens with the universal pang of regret, the familiar wish to 'roll back the clock.' But Paul deftly redirects this longing, asserting that the only meaningful action we can take is to choose self-love now. He reframes 'love myself, through discipline and compassion' not as a soft option, but as the firm, ultimate tool against fear and the single most powerful act that allows us to begin 'manifesting your becoming into what you are destined to be.' It is a masterclass in turning introspection into empowerment. This is more than just poetry; it is a roadmap for those who feel unseen and a gentle hand for those ready to start their journey back home to themselves. If you are looking for genuine, visceral verse that inspires deep emotional transformation, this book is essential reading.
The Elegy of an Erupting Spirit by Paul Damian is so much more than a collection of poetry. It’s visceral. It’s a beautiful, deep delve into what it is to be human and no matter what your life situation is you will find something here that will resonate.
It’s not just a book, it feels like an experience, a journey, travelling an emotional path with Paul right beside you. Alongside his incredible poetry he’s also included some of his photography and insights into how the poems came to be - something that is usually missing from poetry collections but which makes such a difference and gives the writing more weight.
Given that Paul Damian is Romanian but writes in English, which is not his native language, makes this collection even more extraordinary. He has the ability to pull emotions apart and express them with such eloquence and depth that you cannot help but be changed after reading this. I feel very lucky that the Instagram algorithm saw fit to drop him into my feed about a year ago - this man has such a beautiful soul and I am so grateful that he chooses to be as vulnerable as he does and share it with the world. This is a book I will treasure for the rest of my life.
Paul has created poetry that reaches deep into your heart and soul and moves you in unexpected ways. His poetry started as an idea, then became mere words on paper. They were grouped together in a specific order, leading the reader to line after line of poetic precision. Emotions laid bare, sometimes raw, after the reading of his flow of words. We are left wondering, questioning, emotional, weeping, bereft, happy, inspired or another emotion we weren’t expecting. He brings you along on a journey of discovery of his heart and his craft. But, it’s more than that, it’s a discovery of the self. It’s about what we’ve just read and how it has impacted us. The ultimate questions are: Did you read Paul’s journey through his heart, soul and life’s experiences? How did it make you feel? Did it change you in any way? if not right now, it still might. Paul is a master of prose and his premier book, The Elegy of an Erupting Spirit, is a must read for any lover of poetry.
This is not a book you merely read — it is a book you enter, a pulse you feel beneath your own skin. Each poem holds both a whisper and a wound, mirroring the tenderness and the brutality with which life touches us. The author opens a quiet inner chamber where the reader feels profoundly seen, as if someone has finally understood the unspoken language of the heart. It is remarkable how words can mend. Some of these verses I return to each day — they have become my soft, sacred ritual.
After following Paul’s poetry reading Instagram, I knew I had to have this book—and once I finished it, it went straight onto my favorites shelf. The visual richness and emotional depth of his work make the collection truly transformational: intimate, touching, and deeply inspiring. It’s the kind of book I return to whenever I need to nourish both mind and soul, a gentle reminder of how magical, mysterious, and profoundly human life can be.
This book is truly a gem that nourishes the soul! I found myself completely absorbed in its pages. Paul also adds another dimension, by sharing personal photos which fuels a feeling of deep connection to its message. A beautiful piece for my library.
This book touched my soul like no other. The poems are profound and meaningful, and I especially appreciate that Paul Damian added his thoughts to each one. His book is inspiring, and the design, featuring his own photographs, is simply beautiful.
