PJ Skinner was born in Guildford, one of seven siblings. When she was six, the family moved to Ireland where she attended school. She went to Trinity College, Dublin University, graduating as a geologist. After graduation, PJ spent 35 years working in over thirty countries as an exploration geologist. PJ worked in many remote, strange, and often dangerous places, and loved every minute, despite encountering her fair share of misogyny and other perils. During this time, she collected the tall tales and real-life experiences which inspired her to write the Sam Harris Adventure Series. The series chronicles the adventures of a pioneering female geologist in an almost exclusively male world. After finishing the Sam Harris Adventure series, PJ's childhood in Ireland inspired her to write the Green Family Saga, which follows the fortunes of an English family who move to Ireland just before the start of the Troubles, under the name of Kate Foley. PJ moved to the south coast of England just before the Covid pandemic. There she wrote Mortal Mission, a sci-fi mystery set on Mars, inspired by her fascination with all things celestial. It is a science-based murder mystery; think The Martian with fewer potatoes and more bodies. The enjoyment of writing Mortal Mission encouraged her to try writing a mystery series. She has always been a massive fan of crime and mystery, so it was inevitable she would turn her hand to it eventually. She published Deadly Return, the first book in the Seacastle Mysteries in July 2023 to great success. The Seacastle Mystery Series is a contemporary cosy mystery series with an amateur female sleuth, her grumpy ex-husband, hacker stepson and ungrateful rescue cat. The ensemble cast adds banter and humour as the series follows their stories between the murder mysteries. Poison Politics, book 10, will be released on the 31st of December 2025.
Book 6 of Sam's life sees her head to a worn torn country, employed by another dodgy boss and thrown in at the deep end. Her journey starts with travelling to South Africa to see the new boss, then heading to Tamazia to start working in a diamond mine. She encounters the usual issues of being blanked out by the all male staff, dealing with the loneliness lack of training onsite. When she ends up being kidnapped with a couple of coworkers by the local rebels and held for ransom, the big question is whether the dodgy boss will stump up the money.....
Sam held her own throughout the story and, in my opinion, showed more nerves of steel than in previous adventures. Her desire to fit into a male dominated world, now in 1998, still shows through, and her ways of handling it still haven't really changed over the years, but the story line was excellent, with twists and turns abounding, and held my attention enough that I finished the book in one sitting. I look forward to Sam's concluding chapter in Book 7.

"Wow" is a word I use in my reviews when I really love a book, but in this case it would be an understatement.
In "Digging Deeper", Sam's adventure is her most dangerous yet. Knowing that PJ uses some of her own experiences as a geologist in her plots just added to the tension while reading this. This particular adventure is a nail-biting read.
Digging Deeper is the sixth book in the "A Sam Harris Adventure" series. Sam is now working in a diamond mine in war-torn Tamazia. This author's descriptions bring you to Tanzania with Sam and allow you to follow her as she is kidnapped by rebels. This is a fast-paced, action-packed thriller that is full of danger, intrigue, and suspense. I am looking forward to reading more in this fascinating series.
Awesome book that from the beginning held my interest and kept me reading, glued to turning those pages. I love this author's writing style and as this is the 3rd book I have read by her, I love each book better than thee previous.

I have read all six books written by pj skinner and enjoyed each one. They all have a good story line with side plots as well. They are set in different locations and each are interesting.
‘Digging Deeper’ is an extremely tense read set in an African war zone, which along with the usual misogynist colleagues, remote workplaces and lack of security gives the reader a rollercoaster of a ride! There is adventure, action, danger, brilliant characters and a local population in dire need of help. This is the 6th book in the series but it can be read as a standalone very easily, maybe more so than some of the others. I'm pretty sad that there is only one more book in the series for me to read as I have taken Sam Harris to my heart and would just continue reading any book PJ wanted to through in my direction concerning her!
Sam is heading to Tamazia, which is a currently a war zone but she has been told that the capital is safe and that is where she is going to be based. But when she meets her horrible chauvinistic despot of a boss in South Africa she is actually told she is going to be working in the field for the start to get a feel for the diamond production side of the business. However, that is in the conflict zone… When she gets there the whole management freezes her out and she doesn't have a lot to do there as she isn't allowed to see the results coming out of the deposits.
The section where Sam was taken captive by the rebels is the best writing that PJ has done over the series. Basically, with every book I say that but this time the tension radiated off the page and I was gripping my phone so tight as I was reading those passages that it began to hurt. I sincerely hope that this situation never happened to PJ as it would have been terrifying. Sam showed that she has nerves of steel, empathy and a willingness to embrace new cultures. I just love her now as a character! Her two wee friends were adorable.
Roll on the next book where we will now find Sam in London’s corporate world.
Book 6 of the Sam Harris Series - and penultimate book in this series - noooo!
I've been steadily working through this whole series and have loved them all so far! With just one more book to go, I'm already feeling a little sad.
Digging Deeper sees Sam take a new job at a new company working in the diamond fields of West Africa. I can't believe that Sam has managed, once again, to be stuck in a rubbish job with horrid colleagues (and boss)
I really feel for her because not only does she have to work harder to fit in, working in an almost fully male environment, but the whole set up of employment and contracts seems so dodgy too!
Working in this field is her passion and I just hate that it's such a trial for her to get to do her job to the standard she'd like - without fighting all the other workers too!
There's also the little problem of working within areas of unrest or at civil war. This poses a major threat to all the workers in this area and leads to an exciting and scary situation for Sam and a couple of her colleagues.
I love that we get to learn some of the history of each Country that Sam visits as well as seeing different cultures and the hardships that others face.
Sam's character is brilliant too! She is full of patience, compassion and a strength that can teach everyone something. If everyone could just be a little more accepting of others then the World would be a much more pleasant place.
Looking forward ...(but with some trepidation)...to book 7 ...
4th of October was my spot on LoveBooksTours blog tour for Digging Deeper by P.J. Skinner. I read this thriller as an ebook for this tour and I’m so happy that I took part on this blog tour as I really liked this novel. It is so refreshing to read a thriller where the main character is a strong female character working in a profession that men normally do. I loved the exotic location of this thriller, the strength and courage of the leading female character, I loved the character development and finding out about the main characters as the story unfolded. This novel was thrilling, exciting and made entertaining reading. I liked the diamond mine in a far away place as a setting for this novel that was full of plot twists. Throughout the novel, I was wishing that the main character would remain strong and survive. This was the first novel which I’ve read by the author but I’m hoping to read more in the future as I liked the author’s writing style. I’m giving this thriller 4 stars as I liked it and I’m sure that other readers will like it too.
Another great read in the Sam Harris Series, I don't think it is any secret by now that I love this series and that with every book it gets just a little bit better. With every book the characters get further developed and I have truly taken them to my heart, even new charcaters in each book by the eand are like old friends. I thought the stroyline was engaging and kept my attention the whole way through and I love the authors writing style. I could literally read her work all day. A really enjoyable read.
I’ve thoroughly enjoyed back with Sam for another adventure. This is the sixth book in the series but can be read as standalone. Like the other books, this one is filled with action, adventure and a tense situation that Sam needs to get herself out off. The characters are well developed and believable. The storyline is really well written, nicely paced and kept my attention from the start until the end. I love Sam and seeing how her character grows over the course of the books and this one is no exception. She’s still in a male dominated world and still dealing with the issues that come from that but again she holds her own.
Digging Deeper by PJ Skinner is the sixth, stand-alone book in the riveting Sam Harris Adventure series. Sam Harris is female geoligist trying to succeed in typical male dominated field in the late 1990s. This installment takes you into the world of mining diamonds in South Africa, enlightening us in the issues of the people and those that would work any job, even if it means possibly losing their own lives.
Ms. Skinner does a fantastic job creating the characters and making them real and believable. You'll recognize or gain insights into topics not often mentioned about women trying to suceed in a profession dominated by men and the changing role of women in “macho” societies I guarantee you'll have trouble separating the good guys from the bad.
The feisty, somewhat rebellious geologist, Sam Harris is intelligent and passionate about her job and won't be stopped when she sees wrongs that must be righted. But this time may be her biggest challenge yet. From day one her fellow employees treat her as a spy. If this wasn't bad enough, she's not in Mondongo like she was promised, she's in remote Kardo, where militant rebels could attack at anytime - and do.
The ending will have you on the edge of your seat, biting your nails to the quick - right to the last page.
I'd recommend this 5-star book to anyone who has an adventurous spirit and likes a strong female protagonist.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Our heroine is rather desperate and takes a job that prudence would say she should steer away from. But then she doesn't always listen to prudence.
This is the sixth book in this series, but each one is written as a standalone. Reading the other books will give you more detail on the main character, but is not necessary for your enjoyment of this book. Jump in at any time.
This is a wonderful story full of action, intrigue and mysteries. The story is very well written and populated with interesting, well developed characters that give the story depth. The action starts pretty quickly and then doesn't stop, enough so that it kept me glued to the page when I should be doing other things. I also feel like I am learning something about geology each time I read one of these. This is another excellent entry in the series and I am hoping there will be another story in the future.
Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for review purposes.
This book was purchased as part of a set containing The Bonita Protocol, Digging Deeper, and Concrete Jungle (Sam Harris Books 5, 6, and 7) which I have reviewed as a set and separately so that the reader can find my reviews whichever way they find the books.
Sam Harris needs money and this is what causes her to take a job in the most dangerous area she has ever worked in - war-torn Tamazia. Working for Gemsite means that yet again Sam has to fight a culture of misogyny against people who don't want her there and even people who appear to be her friends have hidden agendas. Her boss, Adrian Black, is also suspected of avoiding paying taxes and the people in power hope that Sam will let slip something that they can use against him. Adding into this mix is that Sam gets captured by rebels. All this gives a very exciting story.
I loved this story about a female geologist who gets a job in a diamond mine in West Africa. The descriptions of the locations and the conditions are superb, and I almost felt as though I'd been there. The characters are great, they are believable despite maybe being mild caricatures, but then again perhaps the people who do these jobs are really a bit larger than life. I also found the technical details of the mining process interesting, the author shows her experience and expertise in these areas. The story takes a dramatic and tragic turn for the worse and I really found myself completely engrossed wit the book, wanting to get to the end to find out how the story ends. It was really gripping writing.
Anne Kinslow. Wow!! This book was a very exciting read as our Sam Harris Geologist, once again, finds herself overseas in Africa working on a Diamond Mine. Once again, she has to put up with men behaving badly towards her because she is a woman in a male dominated industry and they also believe that she has been sent there by their boss to spy on them. I was so caught up in this book that I wanted to stay with it right to the last page to find out how Sam and a few others survived their ordeal of being taken for Ransom by a group of Rebels. You must get this series of books by PJ Skinner. They are a great read about a strong woman who was determined to do a job that she enjoyed working as a Geologist. I look forward to the next book she releases.
Sam does her best to make it in a male dominated field. Whatever it takes. If you can survive the hazing and the weird attitudes, the pay is not so bad, really.
What goes on in the minds of men? She must be a spy or a whore? Nope. Just a woman. Period. Full stop. Big surprise right? Girls like geology, Fire fighting, and other things not involving selling their body parts.
Sadly the location of this job does leave a gal open to threats of trafficking, but hey?
Three cheers for an action and attitude packed adventure!
Great KU read!

This is the first book I wrote but then I realised that it had the potential to be part of a series so I took it down again and started at the beginning. It reflects my time at a diamond mine in West Africa but all of the characters are amalgams of people I have met over the years and the story line is imaginary. I have rewritten it to reflect the content of the first five books in the series. I hope you will enjoy it.
This is my favorite book series. I like the main character Sam Harris. The story line is captivating. When i have read one i feel i have learned something. If you like adventure you will find it here. I was a bookdealer for thirty years and have read many books, i don’t know whether that counts for something but i think P.J. Skinner writes wonderful books.
💻📖🎧 Book format & quality 💻📖🎧 Paperback book, glossy bright cover which I totally love, cream/ off-white paper which is really easy on the eyes.
🌻SpLD comments (from a dyslexic)🌻 Short chapters with breaks to make the read easier. I really like this font to print contrast.
✒️ Style✏️ I absolutely love the authors style, her character portrayal and the more you read the more invested in Sam's Journey you get. This book would work as a stand alone but I definately recommended the series. The characters, the story and how it develops over time are totally captivating.
👪 Characters👪 Sam Harris is the star of the show, this book follows her career, travels, challenges and adventures.
📈 Plot 📉 A woman working in a male dominated world, in a male dominated industry and in a part of the world where culture of women working is so far detached from the West. Even small wins seem to have consequences. #nospoilers
📖 Read more 📖 Absolutely, I'm delighted to be in the next tour of this book in the series.

❓Question for the author❔
🤓 Author Synopsis 🤓 Sam strives for acceptance at a diamond mine but the rebels have other ideas
It’s 1998 and geologist Sam Harris is so desperate for money, she takes a job in a tinpot mining company working in war-torn Tamazia. The rebel ceasefire is holding, but only just, and she is horrified to be shipped out from the capital to a remote camp.
Working in Gemsite was never going to be easy with its culture of misogyny and corruption, but the project is full of landmines, both real and metaphorical. Her boss, the notorious Adrian Black, is engaged in a game of cat and mouse with the government over taxation, and her colleagues are trying to force her out.
After Sam makes a breakthrough at work, she hopes to finally get accepted by her peers. But when the situation takes a sudden turn for the worse, her lack of allies puts her in mortal danger.
Can she survive the consequences, or will she succumb to her fate?
Digging Deeper is the sixth book in the riveting Sam Harris Adventure series. If you like Indiana Jones, you'll love this exciting adventure with realistic storylines, set in an exotic location before modern technology.
Sam is back and this time she is in more danger than ever before!
This time Sam is strapped for cash, so she takes a job in Tamazia, a war-torn part of the world where she is thrown head-first into corruption and trouble, the management wants her out and she hasn’t any friends or people she can trust base. As soon as she makes a breakthrough with the job she is soon kidnapped by gun-toating rebels. Eeek! Me thinks, our girl is in over her head here, she is in mortal danger with no one who even cares whether she returns or not.
Once again Sam Harris is fighting for equality and acceptance in a man’s world, she has grown and matured so much over the course of the series, and over the years that the series covers. But has she learnt from her past misadventures? Not on your nelly, she is just as courageous, defiant, determined and always ready to do what is needed and what is right, which as you will see from this book does lead her to greater peril.
Digging Deeper is book six in this fantastically exciting series, as ever I would recommend that you read the previous books as each one gives an insight into Sam and how far she has come along on this roller-coaster journey.
This is a fantastic addition to the series, Sam is a cut above the rest of other heroines, she can easily stand on her own two feet and as ever she is unyielding determination to fit in a man’s world, to prove that just because she is a woman she can do the job just as good (or even better ) than her male counterparts and she isn’t afraid to stand up for what is right – even if it does lead her into danger.
Digging Deeper is an excellent edge-of-your-seat adventure, with a heroine you can really get behind, a twisty complex plot richly descriptive scenes it’s all here to keep your attention and to keep turning the pages.
I loved this book! It's the first time I have read any of this author's work and it won't be the last! Set in 1998 we see Sam attempting to be accepted in the diamond mining community she works in in Africa. It's full of corruption, not just in the community but with the politics too and this all just rang so true for me. The vivid descriptions of the settings took me there so easily and the characters, especially Sam, are all so well written. They have depth, even the ones that are hateful. It's an action packed read that definitely kept me on my toes. A realistic portayal of the time. The danger poured of the pages as I turned them so fast in anticipation of what would come next! I can't wait to read the rest of the series! Thanks to Love Books Tours and PJ Skinner
She needed to make money and so she took the job but it is not easy. Some of them want her out but it will get worse when she is kidnapped when they were attacked. Will anyone come to save her? Will she be able to save herself? See if anyone will come for her

This is the sixth book in the Sam Harris adventure series and it did not disappoint!
Sam has faced a lot throughout the series but she ends up in a situation that is on another level in this book. With a demeanour that would rival Bridget Jones in The Edge of Reason, Sam manages to keep her spark even in the darkest of times.
I feel that karma really gets Sam a long way in this book. The book sends out a strong message of you get out of life what you put in, and kindness will get you a long way. I can’t fault the author on their character development throughout this series. Even though Sam has been through a lot, and changed as a result of what she has been through, it was nice to see that Sam hasn’t lost the best parts of herself.
Overall, this book was packed with action and adventure, and it is my favourite book in the series so far. I can’t wait to continue following Sam’s journey in the next, and last, book in the series.
