They told her to stay away from the Hollands, and she didn't listen. Jaslene Davies has slayed much darker demons, after all, so What does she have to fear from the one person she's trying to protect?why should she give ear to such a warning?
First of all, I should never get my hopes up too high for a book again (or anything, really)… I expected so much more, especially because of how the first book ended and it felt like I got almost nothing. There was barely any progress until about 50–60%. The same situations kept repeating and the things that were hinted at in book one were never really addressed. It felt unfinished; like empty pages.
Despite all of that, I loved this book in a certain way (which is crazy, I know). All the characters won my heart, and even though there are still small issues between them, they show the individuality of teenagers; that even though we’re all different, we can still respect each other and get along.
And my babies, Mack and Jas (my shaylassss) My heart hurts thinking about everything they’ve been through and everything still ahead of them.
.🚙. ݁₊⊹𝗝𝗮𝘀. ݁˖. I could relate to her in some ways: the constant anxiety, her behavior at home and how all of it affects her mental health. I just wish we had seen more progress in her storyline, especially since the book is literally called 𝗠𝘆 𝗡𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗜𝘀 𝗝𝗮𝘀𝗹𝗲𝗻𝗲, yet her situation barely moved forward. I really hope she finds comfort with Mack and manages to escape that household.
.🎨‧₊˚ 𝗠𝗮𝗰𝗸⊹ ₊˚. He’s still so young and already carrying so much responsibility. Absent parents, a little sister to take care of, money problems, traumatic experiences at school. I loved how he found a safe place with Jas and their created friend group. It hurts so much that he had to go through all of that and is still so gentle. He’s incredibly caring, always putting other people’s feelings before his own, wanting only the best for those he loves, and so many people don’t see that. Don’t see 𝗵𝗶𝗺.
And THIS is how their story ends here?! There are still so many things that need to happen. They’re not even officially a couple, and yet their story just…stops? I honestly don’t know if I’ll continue the series because of that..even though I love the characters.
I really do think this author is talented, a lot goes into writing a book and it’s clear they are passionate about writing. However, I don’t think it was a particularly wise decision to yet again leave the book on somewhat of a cliffhanger. I am obviously not the author and they know a lot more about the direction they want to take the series in than I do, but I do think Jaslene and Mack’s books should have been a duologue, wrapping up their storylines within this book.
Readers like myself waited over a year to find out what happened post the attack on Mack and aside his injuries not much was even mentioned regarding the actual attack. This book could have been another 100+ pages easily and I would rather have seen less hospital scenes and more of Mac working through what happened to him, because I just think that storyline should have been mostly wrapped up within this book. Court scenes etc could be moved over to the next book, but Jaslene finding out who did this I do believe should have occurred in this book.
This book, whilst well written and enjoyable to read felt unfinished, like it reached the mid-point of the story and then just ended, leaving me feeling frustrated as a reader. There probably is an aspect of wanting to drum up interest for the next book, but the cliffhanger in my opinion didn’t work as a cliffhanger. In the first book the cliffhanger hook had me checking the author’s social media constantly, waiting for updates. This book has not achieved that, it just feels unfinished.
I don’t know whether the author has been under a lot of pressure from fans to get this book written and that is why the book feels so unfinished, but I just hope that for their next book they take some of what people are saying on board in regards to writing a proper ending to a book. That being said I did enjoy the book and that’s where this review is coming from, the author is talented and really has the ability to do draw you in which is why leaving reading a book feeling unfulfilled is so frustrating!
The SAFTH characters are so well developed, they feel like people you grew up with which is what has me hooked on this series.
Mirroring other reviews, I agree it felt slightly unfinished. For Jas’ book, we didn’t get to see more of her issues at home (Mack finding out about this), her hinted at mental health or her discovering the perpetrator to Mack’s assault. IMO, this felt like Mack’s second book opposed to Jaslene’s.
It was disappointing to see the authors note that whilst this isn’t the end of the story, this is the end of Mack and Jas’ story; whilst so much feels unanswered for them! I hope some of this is continued in the series even if Mack/Jas are not the primary focus.
Also, side note, I kind of hoped the literature conversation between Mack and Jas in book one [M: why didn’t they just run away together?, J: perhaps they didn’t know that they could] was a precursor! They deserve so much more!!
Amizah R, I’m left reeling! Please continue this series!
I wayyy preferred the first book over this one. Felt the characters were wayy different but maybe it’s cause I didn’t reread the first one. Couldn’t connect as well with the main characters. Best part was the middle of the book. Ending was a little unrealistic but I liked parts of it. Still like the MMC but not as much as in first book. Again there were some grammar and spelling mistakes but only towards the end! Will still probably read the next.
THIS WAS WAY TOO SHORT 😭 i cant give it less than 5 stars im too attached to the characters and the story but i expected to know more about Jas’s mental health issues it felt brushed aside despite the book title alluding to the fact the author deep dived into her life (she didn’t but hopefully next book!)
waited for the sexy make out session but that’s another year’s wait now 💔

I was really excited for this book. The first book was fantastic. It set up a lot of interesting plot points and characters I was hyped to see in this book.
Unfortunately that did not happen. I don’t know where to start. The pacing of this book was wacky. The last ten pages had like 75 percent of the plot. I was genuinely baffled that three new conflicts were introduced at the end of the book. And other conflicts seemed to disappear into thin air.
Apparently this is the last book in Mack and Jaslene’s story. Which shouldn’t be the case because the story’s unfinished. I feel like it is very ambiguous. Like you have the imagine how every single plot point ends. Does Mack make up with Mand? Does Jaslene fix her mental issues? Does Mack get his money back? Is Jen punished? Is Callum punished? What is Mack’s relationship with Callum’s dad? What’s happening with Tilly? Lila? Does Jaslene and Mack’s relationship work out?
I think the last question is the most alarming since Mack and Jaslene’s relationship does not change from the end of book 1. Actually it changes a little. But it basically stays the same. The first book ends w them kissing and the second book ends with them living together after they go on one date together. I think Mack actually questions if Jaslene likes him. But idk why the author made him that clueless. Jaslene kisses him multiple times as he questions her attraction for him.
Ok let’s start with Callum. The first book ends with Mack getting beat up by Callum and his gang. The second book starts with the direct aftermath of that. And half the book is just him in a hospital bed. We get introduced to Liberty who disappears immediately after Mack gets discharged. I lowkey forgot who Liberty was. And then Callum faces zero repercussions. In fact he goes back to simping for Jaslene. I genuinely don’t know what was going on with this storyline. It was another conflict that just disappears.
Then in like the part after Mack gets discharged to the last ten pages (lets call this the middle), absolutely nothing happens. I think Mack and Jas eat chicken and kiss. And watch movies with their friends. I don’t really know what was going on here. It was the most boring part of the book.
I know people said that the side characters get developed a lot. But honestly I didn’t feel that way. Obviously they had an important role. But like Tilly kinda just disappears as well. I think she gets jealous of Liberty but that goes literally nowhere. Kam’s only purpose was to complain to the doctors. Idk what Molly was there for. Mand didn’t even feel like Mand. I honestly think the side characters had a diminished role compared to the first book.
Bro adding the drama with Mand was so unexpected. Like what? It felt like it was added just for the sake of it. No build up.
Oh my goodness the fight at the beginning of the book where Jaslene just punched that rando girl. Honestly ig that was fine. Idk or remember what happened.
And Jen robbing Mack was nasty. I suppose I could see this coming? Idk. I don’t have any words on it. Except for the fact it was introduced in the last 10 pages of the book.
Jaslene moving into Mack’s place is a perfect ending to this book— if there was any sort of coherent plot to this book. It happened after everything else happened so it felt chaotic and unorganized. And the stuff with her Dad wasn’t really as fleshed out as it should’ve been.
The worst part was the writing. It was so confusing. I will say that the writing was the only consistent part between book 1 and 2. Except book 2 had no plot so I just had no idea what was going on. Opposed to book 1 where the plot was good enough for me to trudge through the writing.
Overall this book is unfinished. It feels rushed. And it certainly isn’t an ending to Mack and Jaslene’s story. There are a TON of plot points that need to be addressed. Maybe the author plans to address them in the books about the side characters. Which doesn’t really make sense. I honestly think this book killed any momentum with this series. I am really sad about that because the first book was awesome.
Idk. I was just ranting a bit. Maybe I missed something when reading this book. It certainly felt like I missed a lot of things. Maybe the author will make a book 3 that saves this series or smth. Idk. I feel like you’re better off reading book 1 and calling it a day.
Of course I criticized this book a lot. But I have to give my admiration to the author for having the discipline to write this. She is very good at what she does. And it takes serious effort to finish two books for a series.

5/5 stars ➷ ✩ͯ Yay I’m so happy book 2 is finally here! I really enjoyed this book and I was so happy to go back into Jaz and Mack’s lives after so long away, and it payed off. It was so sweet to see both of them work through their feelings and become so comfortable with eachother, leading to how the book ended by her knowing he’s her safe haven. I loved how we got so much more development from the side characters as well, and ur was so interesting to see their dynamics. As anything, there was also bit I didn’t enjoy, but I felt like it didn’t take too much away from the plot. At times, the story line was very confusing and not well written, such as in the scene where they’re eating the take away and he tries the bone marrow, they never specified that they moved from the car to the bedroom so I was really lost when Mack’s mum walked in. And also I wish we could of had a moment where we would have seen the characters talk about what happened, like Mack telling Jaz who hurt him and Jaz telling Mack about the concussion she got in book 1, but I think many of the other scenes made up for it. I also with we got more of a closed ending where we could have been given a proper answer of what happened with the characters, but again, it is about interpretation so I can’t really complain 🤷♀️. All in all, this book was really good and I really recommend it!

im sad it's over, tbh I spent a good chuck of the book confused bc I couldn't remember who was who, but I eventually got the gist of the characters again. Now she's saying that this is the completion of their book but why am I still feeling like there story is unfinished like i'm not satisfied. I need more of them tbh. like what do I do know, im confused. Ik they'll be more books in the series, but is it about the other characters bc tbh i don't give a rats ass about anyone other than Jaslene and Mack. Like there's so many things left to answer.
does he make up with mand, like what does she mean about jas. granted jas was a bit on one this book bc of mack. like what about the mom? i need her to get her karma. there's so many plots that just need to be finished. 312 pages was too small for the amount of content this book holds. this pisses me off like tf. The writing did throw me off tbh, it was difficult to follow along at some parts of the book. Mack and Jas need to be protected, they're so lovely.

dude i’m sorry i love this book and the characters but why is the title called “my name is jaslene” when her whole storyline was just brushed off. it was literally all mack and side characters. i was hoping to expand more on her relationship with her dad and her mental health and NONE of it was addressed at all towards the ending. also wdym in the authors note that mack and jaslene’s story ends here? dude there’s no story. they still have so much to get through 😭 anyway I really love the characters and I love the dynamic between Mack and Jas but they kinda just ended up getting nowhere and I’m really disappointed because they had so much potential and this story just fell short and it felt like there was just no point to this book. Mack was injured for like the majority of it. Also, how can they say that Jaslene has mental health problems but not diagnose her or tell us what exactly they think she has? like I still have so many questions??
The epilogue indicates that this is the end of the story for Mack and Jas... which would be massively disappointing because there are soooo many unsaid conversations between them, and soooo many unfinished plot threads (No consequences for Callum and Sam, what happened with Lila, who is Mack's dad, what's happening between Mack and Mand etc). I still enjoyed the story, because I like the characters, but definitely not as strong as book one.
The book also suffered from the same problem as the first one- the writing style left me often confused about what was actually happening in a scene/ character motivations. And I feel I understand Jaslene less as a character after this book due to that messy internal monologue.
Also they're not even really together at the end of the book? Saw more of Jas and Callum as a couple in book one than Mack and Jas in the whole series.
I had pretty high hopes for this but it kinda went off the rails.. A lot of plot points weren’t developed well, the characters felt totally different to the first one (hello Amanda?), and lots of grammatical/spelling errors. 3 stars purely for Mack
