A Life of Union with Mary

Rate this book
Firmly rooted in the Church’s magisterium and the wisdom of the Saints, Life of Union with Mary presents a simple philosophy of life that is built around the relations of Mary to God and to man. That devotion to her can be a part of everyday life is a recurring theme in this devotional book that explains the extreme importance of union with Mary by showing its marvelous results.

Father Neubert not only gives the dogmatic basis for union with Mary, but details methods of working at and achieving it. He considers every spiritual exercise from this special angle and exemplifies his directions by quotations from many religious and laymen – including Saints – who have achieved union with Mary.

Throughout the book he stresses that by giving special attention to Mary the soul intends only to become more united with Christ, to become more like Him, and thus to most perfectly fulfill His mission and to help spread His kingdom on earth.

To Jesus through Mary!

Mary raised and nourished Jesus, the Christ! Jesus gives us his mother on the cross, thus she is our mother as well. This offers Mary to us as a sweet and gentle spiritual directress, truly the same maternity she used to foster Christ she extends towards us, giving us what we need to be like Him (with ever patience and love towards our short comings). Through her example, yes, but also through an active and real intercession in our present nows. She is the distributrix of all Grace, she is mothering to us always.

It is through her demeanor, the demeanor informed by complete surrender and humility towards God, that the Holy Trinity (Father, Son, and Holy Spirit), is best and most purely regarded, contemplated, and responded to. It is her demeanor, then, that we must attempt to create in ourselves by asking her to help! She who bore the Incarnation within her, that most astonishing Eros of God. And whose own soul a sword pierced. Mother of Sorrows, pray for us.

Jesus is the object of our worship, yes, and Mary is our sublime directress. Only through imitating her love for Him can we hope to love Him as we ought.

I read this book as a prayer. I annotated a lot but nothing specifically semantic stays in my mind. Rather I am taking away an increased desire for to offer fidelity to Mary and to Jesus. And greater recognition of need of her as remedy to my weakness. Help me be good, for the sake of being good for good Himself, and the sake of His people.

Hail Mary, full of Grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and Blessed is the Fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us, sinners, now, and at the hour of our death, Amen.
