The Price Of Revenge: A Dark Suspenseful Crime Thriller

Rate this book
Her job is to catch a serial killer, she never expected to be covering for one.

Detective Emily Sinclair has spent her life chasing justice, but when her childhood best friend Ava is brutalized by men who walk free, Emily is forced to confront a hard the system isn’t broken, it’s working exactly as designed. Money buys verdicts, silence, and the right to destroy lives without consequence.

That changes when those untouchable men start turning up dead.

As bodies pile up, Emily finds herself erasing evidence, manipulating crime scenes, and walking a line between law and vengeance. She tells herself she’s protecting Ava. That justice, real justice, sometimes requires getting your hands dirty.

Then Rookie Detective Ryan Hunter is assigned to her team.

What starts as an obligation quickly becomes a complication Emily never saw coming. The more she tries to keep him at arm’s length, the harder she falls.

When Ryan gets too close to the truth, Emily begs Ava to stop. But Ava has her own agenda, and Emily begins to fear Ryan won’t just uncover her secret, he’ll become Ava’s next victim.

Now Emily must decide how far she will go to protect a friend, and what happens when the person you’re trying to save becomes the monster you can’t control?

In a world where trauma breeds violence, Emily is about to discover that sometimes the greatest threat isn’t the guilty, it’s the ones we’re desperate to protect.

TRIGGER WARNING - READ THIS FIRST

This book is not for everyone, and that’s okay. This is a dark, suspenseful murder thriller. Despite having a romance element, it is not a romance with a thriller subplot. It is not a redemption story. It explores trauma, rage, misandry, and revenge.

Content

Graphic violence and murder

Sexual assault and trafficking (referenced/discussed)

Female characters with hostile views of men

Themes of feminine rage and misandry

If you find anti-male sentiment offensive, this book will piss you off. Don’t read it. If you need likable submissive heroines, this isn’t it. If you’re going to complain that the characters are “too angry” or “man-haters,” save yourself the trouble and pick something else. I’d rather you skip it than leave a review based on content you knew would upset you from the start.

This story explores the ugliest parts of society. It’s meant to be uncomfortable, so you’ve been warned.

The Price of Revenge
By Jessica Hall
Narrated by Leanne Woodward, Logan Anare, Joshua Macrae, Gunnar Qualen, Jenna St Claire

Get yourself ready! If you love a fantastic psychological thriller, this book is for you. It's filled with twists and turns, a hint of romance and suspense that just keeps building until it cannot get any higher! Emily is a detective. Why do you ask? She witnessed men go free after destroying her friend Ava. When a serial killer begins a spree, it's evident who it is, and Emily begins to protect Ava as she seeks her revenge. Then things begin to change. Ryan is hired as a rookie detective, and Emily finds herself drawn to his protectiveness. While he is smart and helpful though, there is something suspect about him. Then there is her partner Michael. He is not acting right and there are discrepancies in their cases that are unexplainable. And Ava keeps showing up and becoming much more careless as she continues her quest. This exciting story is packed with so much! Who can you trust? Who is at fault? Why are things escalating? And where does it end? This is the kind of book I literally cannot put down. It plays with my mind, keeping the earbud in my ear until I know all the answers. But Jessica Hall kept me guessing until the very end! And what a twist! This could not have been better. Highly recommend if you too enjoy a good thriller!

The narration just enhances this book. A full cast brings this alive! Leanne Woodward, Logan Anare, Joshua Macrae, Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St Claire each use their talents to create each personality. Leanne Woodward is Emily and Ava, and WOW. She can go from calm and collected to crazy in a heartbeat! Logan Anare is Ryan, and his voice is the one of reason. I love his narrations, and this one is especially good as he begins to investigate and also takes care of Emily. Joshua Macrae, Gunnar Qualen and Jenna St Claire join in with all the additional characters, creating a cast that is essential to story with suspense building excitement. Loved this!

Best story yet!!

I have been following Jessica hall’s book since the beginning from when she was on GoodNovel to finally moving to kindle. Not gonna lie, I was tired of the werewolf world and so glad to see her step out of it too! Sorry was very well written and I absolutely loved it! I had my suspicions about Ava and Emily (without spoiling) but I never expected to know what Michael did … crazy ending and I loved every bit of it ❤️❤️❤️ keep doing it Jessica!! Love you 😘

This was really good and entertaining.
However, I did figure out very early on that Emily was Ava or Ava was Emily. So it wasn’t that big of a twist for me.
Can we also talk about how unbelievably unprofessional Ryan was? Sleeping with her while investigating her? Yikes.
And the fact that they didn’t find him weird by not acting like a rookie at all!
But yeah, it was fun.
I thought the man hating was going to be hardcore but I could have gone for more.

Amazing!!!

This book is different from other Jessica Hall books but just as amazing!! It keeps you on your toes and not knowing how it will end! With a shocking twist. It does have some triggers in it so make sure you are okay with those before reading. I highly recommend this book if you like dark crime thriller!
