Jack Dane is quickly becoming one of those authors I know I can rely on for tight pacing and clean, addictive writing. Which Sister wasn’t my favorite of his, but there’s still a lot here I enjoyed — especially the way he structured the story. I’m a huge fan of multi-POV thrillers, and the alternating chapters between Judith, Katie, Mark and then the investigative threads were exactly the kind of storytelling rhythm I love. The chapters hit that sweet spot: short enough to keep me saying “just one more,” but long enough to give each perspective weight.
The dynamic between the sisters was genuinely compelling. I liked how their relationship kept shifting as layers peeled back, and the mother–daughter bond added heart to a story that could have otherwise felt very cold. Watching the same situation unfold through each woman’s eyes is where the book really shines.
Where it fell a little flat for me was the motive(s) behind the killer(s). The reveal felt a bit too fictional for my taste — not quite grounded enough to pay off the tension that had been building. I found myself wishing the reasoning had been developed or executed just a bit differently, because the setup had so much potential.
Overall, this is a solid, fast-moving thriller with strong character dynamics and a structure I loved, even if the ending didn’t quite land for me. Still, Dane’s writing is so clean and engaging that I’ll absolutely continue reading more from him.

I received an ARC of Which Sister. This was a great quick psychological thriller, a true page turner. The pace is set in the first chapter and doesn’t let down. The writing style is easy to read and doesn’t have an abundance of fluff to set the scene. You either like the characters or you don’t although all of the characters can seem to be relatable with the realistic actions. As soon as I thought I knew the ending, I realized I was wrong twice. The length of the book was good and the ending was a shocker.

First of all, this book was a great psychological thriller. Very fast pace, with very intriguing characters that keep you gripped to the plot and wanting to keep reading. And that plot twist was a great touch. Overall a great read for people who enjoy psychological thrillers or trying it as a new genre to get into. A solid 4 ⭐️

This was a quick and easy read. I was completely engrossed in this fast-paced, fascinating read right away! The opening chapter establishes the tempo, which is maintained throughout. There isn't a lot of extraneous detail to set the context, and the language is straightforward to read. Even if all of the characters look relatable due to their realistic actions, you either like them or you don't. I appreciated how the narrative had me wondering right up to the very end, despite its tension, secrets, and family drama. The dramatic stakes remain high throughout, the rhythm is precise, and the unexpected turns hit flawlessly.
P.S.: Thanks to NetGalley, the author Jack Dane, and Back Alley for providing me with the ARC copy in exchange for my honest opinion.

Judith Rose has always been the golden child, the successful sister, and the reliable one. And after marrying Mark, her sister Katie's ex-husband, Judith believes she finally has everything she's ever wanted. But when disturbing secrets about Mark begin to surface, Judith realizes perfection was only an illusion. Katie Rose on the other hand, has already lost nearly everything. Her battle with alcoholism destroyed her marriage, her reputation, and now threatens to take away the one thing she still loves... her young daughter. When Mark announces his plan to file for full custody, Katie reaches her breaking point. She's desperate, cornered, and out of time. So when Mark disappears, suspicion falls immediately on the Rose sisters. Both have motive. Both have secrets. And both are lying.

Jack Dane delivers a sharp story of rivalry, resentment, and the dangerous lies families tell themselves. Judith and Katie are perfect main characters, two sisters bound by blood but torn apart by jealousy, addiction, and a man who came in between. Every twist feels earned and the slow unraveling of secrets is addictive. The tension simmers until the final pages where the truth expertly lands and leaves you second-guessing everything. This one is definitely a great read for fans of domestic suspense and siblings gone wrong type thrillers!

Which Sister is domestic suspense at its absolute messiest and most addictive, the kind of story that pulls you straight into the Rose sisters’ chaos and refuses to let you get comfortable.

Judith and Katie Rose have always been bound by blood but divided by jealousy, resentment, and one very complicated man. Judith has the picture perfect life on the surface, but the cracks around her marriage start showing fast. Katie, still reeling from addiction, heartbreak, and the threat of losing custody of her daughter, is one bad day away from snapping. When Mark disappears in Central Park, the spotlight lands on both sisters, and every chapter peels back another layer of their rivalry until you’re not sure whose version of the truth you trust more.

That is what makes this book hit, the emotional tension isn’t just vibe, it is lived in. Years of bitterness, guilt, and hurt simmering beneath every interaction. The pacing stays tight throughout, the reveals land exactly when they need to, and the psychological unraveling is messy in the best way.

Sharp, twisty, and emotionally charged. If you love domestic thrillers where family drama collides with obsession and buried secrets, you’ll inhale this one.

thank you to netgalley & jack dane for a copy of this arc in exchange for an honest review! this was such a quick, easy read. i absolutely loved the first 60-ish% of the book, and i absolutely loved that judith and katie reunited their sisterly bond at the end, but the reveal of who the killer/killers ended up being just didn’t sit right with me. it made an odd sort of sense, but i honestly just didn’t really like it. the characters just fell really flat for me as well, as i don’t feel like there was much development or investment on the reader’s part in their stories. this book was definitely very readable and unpredictable, but overall, i wouldn’t really recommend it. i do love this author’s writing style, however, and definitely plan to read more from him in the future.

Overall, this was a solid thriller fast paced, and an easy read. I genuinely had no idea where the story was heading, and the twist took me by surprise.

However, as an avid thriller fan, I couldn’t help noticing a few plot holes that pulled me out of the story. I.e., the mum disguises herself as a runner to hand in the phone... just didn’t feel remotely plausible. I also kept feeling like I’d missed something, as nothing ever seemed to confirm for certain that Mark was actually killed.

Unfortunately, those details spoiled the experience a little for me. I was really enjoying it right up until about 85%, but the ending left me feeling disappointed after such a strong start.

Jack Dane is the king of psychological thrillers. He sets up the path, writes wonderful characters and then puts in twist and turns to make you doubt what you think will happen. I thought I knew the ending. I was wrong.

My Thoughts:
Judith and Katie Rose have never exactly been close. But when a man ends up missing.Their complicated relationship is thrown into the spotlight. Judith the younger and more successful sister seems to have everything. A job, a beautiful apartment and a husband who once belonged to Katie. But when dark secrets about her husband Mark, Judith's perfect life starts to crack. Katie on the other hand is barely holding herself together. Struggling with alcoholism and the loss of her marriage. She's desperate to regain custody of her daughter When Mark threatens to take her child away for good. Katie feels corned and furious. Then Mark disappears in Central Park and suspicion falls on the Rose's sisters. Both women have motive. Both are hiding something as detectives unravel the truth behind their rivalry and resentment. One thing becomes clear someone is lying and one sister may have gone too far.
In this tense filled psychological thriller loyalty, jealousy and betrayal collide. Leaving reader wondering which sister is the real killer. This was such a gripping, twisty psychological thriller that kept me guessing. The tension between the sister is what really makes the story, two women bond by blood but divided by jealousy, resentment and the same man. You can feel the years of rivalry and pain simmering with each interaction.
If you enjoy domestic suspense with sharp family drama, messy relationships and morally gray characters. This book delivers! I would highly recommend this book.

This was such a gripping, twisty psychological thriller that kept me guessing from the very first page. The tension between the Rose sisters is what really drives the story—two women bound by blood but divided by jealousy, resentment, and the same man. You can feel the years of rivalry and pain simmering beneath every interaction, and it makes the story feel both deeply emotional and uncomfortably real.
I loved how the book plays with the idea of truth and perception. Both sisters come across as unreliable in their own ways—Judith with her picture-perfect façade and hidden guilt, and Katie with her impulsive, self-destructive behavior. You find yourself constantly switching sides, trying to decide who’s the real victim and who’s lying.
The pacing is tight, the twists land perfectly, and the emotional stakes stay high the entire time. It’s not just about solving a murder—it’s about watching two women unravel in very different ways, and realizing how easily love and obsession can blur together.
If you enjoy domestic suspense with sharp family drama, messy relationships, and morally gray characters, this one delivers. It’s addictive, smart, and full of secrets that slowly peel back until the final, shocking truth is revealed.

Which Sister by Jack Dane is a twisty domestic thriller that keeps its secrets close and its claws sharp.

This one’s a tangled web of sisterhood, betrayal, and buried truths. Judith has the perfect life—career, apartment, and a husband who used to be her sister’s. Katie, reeling from addiction and custody battles, has nothing left to lose. When Mark vanishes in Central Park, the spotlight lands squarely on the Rose sisters… and neither is ready to face what’s coming.

Jack Dane spins a compulsively readable mystery, full of shifting loyalties and emotional landmines. The tension builds with each chapter, and just when you think you’ve figured it out—another twist knocks you sideways. It’s sharp, fast-paced, and deliciously messy in all the right ways.

Perfect for fans of Freida McFadden and Kiersten Modglin, this is one of those thrillers you inhale in a single sitting, then immediately want to discuss with someone.

My thanks to Jack Dane, the publisher and Netgalley for the ARC.

Holy cow!! Once again, Jack Dane has me asking out loud, did he just go there? And of course, the answer is always why yes he did. He always goes there. That's what makes every book by him a gasp out loud, deeply disturbing psychological thriller.

Mark, married first to one sister, Katie, an alcoholic, divorces her, and later marries the other sister, Judith, a perfectionist. Now he is missing, and both sisters have reason to want him gone. But who's reason is worth killing over? Stay tuned to find out!

This book takes a crazy left turn and left my head spinning. It is a fast-paced read with short chapters told through different perspectives. It is packed with so much tension and family drama. The ending was so unexpected and cleverly crafted. I can't wait to see what crazy evilness Jack comes up with next. One thing for sure, if Jack Dane is writing it, I will definitely be reading it!

This was a really quick and twisty read that totally pulled me in from the start! Judith and Katie Rose are sisters with a whole lot of baggage and one dead man between them. Judith seems to have it all: the perfect job, apartment, and even her sister’s ex-husband, Mark. But when some dark secrets about Mark start to surface, her “perfect” life starts to crack. Then there’s Katie, who’s hit rock bottom after losing her marriage and struggling with alcoholism. When Mark suddenly goes missing, both sisters become prime suspects and honestly, either one of them could’ve done it. The story is packed with tension, secrets, and family drama, and I loved how it kept me guessing until the final reveal. Fans of Freida McFadden, Daniel Hurst, and Kiersten Modglin will definitely fly through this one in a single sitting.

This story has an intriguing premise with plenty of potential.....family secrets, betrayal, and a mystery that promises emotional depth. It’s a quick, easy read with short chapters that make it fly by. I literally read this in under 2hrs, so it's a quick read.

However, while the concept drew me in, the execution didn’t quite land. The characters felt surface-level, the dialogue sometimes stilted, and the emotional tension that the setup hinted at never fully developed. I found myself more curious about how it would wrap up than truly invested in the people involved.

A readable domestic thriller with a solid idea at its core, but one that could have benefited from more nuance and character depth.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the opportunity to read and review this title.

Family Drama turns to death
What a sad thing to have 2 sisters who grow up together and love each other, and then one changes... which then leads to 2 sisters who don't like each other, to 2 sisters who don't even talk!
Now, add the fact that one sister marries a man and has a child, they divorce, and he then marries the other sister! Sounds like a mess to me.
So, when Mark is found to be missing, presumed dead, who do they suspect?
This story has some rather snarly turns that keep you going to find the next thing, which is not at all what I was thinking it could be. The ending is not thought of at all.
Thank you, Jack Dane, for another wonderful story.

Title: Which Sister
Author: Jack Dane
Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Publication Date: November 7, 2025

I found this book to be a quick, easy read. It was exactly the palate cleanser I needed after reading a much more involved thriller.

Katie was such a likable character, and I found myself rooting for her. The other characters in the book, not so much. I can definitely say I was shocked by some parts of the ending, which I found fairly creative.

This is not my favorite Jack Dane book, but I totally recommend checking it out!

I knew this book was going to be good when I found out he was married to both sisters, and they both had motive. Katie and Judith couldn't be more opposite-Katie is a recovering alcoholic and carefree, where Judith is strict and all about appearances. Mark has some secrets of his own, which just makes the mystery all the more intriguing. I was suspicious over everyone and every little thing, and in true Jack Dane fashion it was so outrageous I couldn't predict it! If you like a good mystery suspense that will keep you guessing this is the book for you!

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Once again, Jack Dane creates a twisty tale is surprisingly strong when it comes to characters and relationship. The animosity between sisters Katie and Judith was palpable, and each sister was well crafted and believable. I went from liking characters to despising them in the matter of chapters, sometimes pages! About 2/3 of the way through I thought I had the story figured out, and was almost disappointed in how I was sure the story would pan out. However, when the conclusion is revealed, I definitely did not see it coming! I love when a twist takes me completely by surprise!

Thank you to Jack Dane and NetGalley for an ARC of this book!

2.5 rounded up to 3 since I enjoyed Part 1.

the first part of this book held my attention and I couldn't wait to see where it went.

It started to lose me the second part, when she all of a sudden believes her sister, who stole her husband and kid and was out to destroy her, when that sister is accused of murder. All of a sudden she just forgives her and works to find her freedom.

I could understand believing she is not guilty of murder and having a conscience so you help get her out but I think one would still have anger and animosity towards that sibling.

The twist at the end just seemed far fetched. Blah.

Judith is married to her older sister's former husband, Mark. He disappears while in Central Park, and is presumed dead. Both sisters had reason to do away with him.

I love Jack Dane's books. They are easy and quick reads with a good plot, and surprising twists.
However, I did predict one of the twists in this book, not saying which, but was floored by another.

There are a few questions I have, though. How on earth do you not sense or see someone in your home? When you read what happened to one of the characters, you will realise what I mean.

I do recommend. 4/5 stars from me.

Absolutely love every book I’ve read by Jack Dane!! They’re quick, suspenseful, and twisty….exactly what I love in a thriller novel.
This book was no different, Jack Dane deserves all the hype!
If I’m in a reading slump, I’ll happily pick up one of his books to get me back into the groove.

Two sisters: wife and ex-wife, one murdered husband….both sisters have motive for murder!!
Quick chapters, different POVs, fast paced, short read.

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC for this, and highly recommend this and any read by this author.

This was an interesting story by Jack Dane in which two sisters have both been married to the same man and both have reasons in which they could have murdered him, but who did? There were some great twists; I kept thinking that I had it solved when all of a sudden there would be a sudden turn and I would realise I was wrong again. This made for an engaging read! There were some plot holes in the story but overall, it was an inventive, twisty thriller! Many thanks to Jack Dane for the ARC of this novel.

Had to know it was coming. A murder mystery of the family kind. The suspects are sisters, the victim their husband slash ex-husband. With a complicated twist the same man married two sisters and divorced one of them. There isn’t an adult character in the story that doesn’t have significant flaws. Which makes it possible to see multiple people with almost a valid reason to be the possible murderer. Another thriller that has you looking for all the clues and reading without a break to figure out this whodunit. Once again a thriller with unexpected twists and turns and mystery of the finest!

A gripping race begins when Mark disappears, leaving two sisters, ex wife and alcoholic Katie and her estranged sibling, Judith, Mark"s current wife as primary suspects. Told through multiple perspectives, this domestic thriller immediately draws you into their tangled lives.
The fast pace makes it impossible to put down; I devoured it in one sitting.
The narrative expertly builds tension, delivering an explosive finale with a major twist I genuinely did not see coming, and the ending is tied up as neatly as a pumpkin wrapped up in a bow.

Thank you NetGalley and Back Alley for an early copy of Which Sister. This was an interesting read. The chapters were short which I liked, the characters were flawed and the book was read within a day. Judith was so rigid and very over controlling, I felt for her, her mind was always rolling. Katie was a mess, I felt very bad for her. Mark made his own dilemmas. BUT THE TWIST WAS LIKE WTH?????? What an ending, a very good novel.

A quick and easy thriller read. I picked up this ARC because the description and plot idea felt so interesting to me. I enjoyed the short chapters from different points of view but didn’t totally connect with any of the characters. The main part of the book felt like a really slow build up… While the twist was unexpected and enjoyed, the end felt so rushed. Overall, a good twist and ending, but the slow build up over-shadowed it for me.

Is Jack Dane really Freida McFadden's alter ego? I feel like I'm reading a FM book every time I read one of Dane's. Gripping from the first page, fast paced, creative in a way I truly feel like I'm in the scene with the characters, characters so well developed I even love the bad ones, and jaw dropping plot twists even when you're SURE you had it figured out! Jack Dane is quickly becoming one of the best twisted psychological thriller authors! Can't wait for whatever he comes out with next!!

I have always been an avid mystery/thriller fan but alas I just didn't really enjoy this story. The story had a promising start however due to the lack of depth with the characters along with the ending seeming very rushed I failed to thoroughly become enamored with this book.

This felt incredibly short, so much so I felt it was going to be all build up.
Saying that, it still packs a few surprises
The. multiple person narrative works well.
I didn't particularly like either one of the sisters, so would happily see either/both locked away.
It was a fun quick read, but not a memorable one I think.
