April Baird is determined to finish an Ironman—even if it is 140.6 miles of misery in the form of swimming, cycling, and running. The distance would be daunting enough, but April is certain she has an Ironman curse. What else could explain the events that have caused her to DNF the last three years? Now, her coach has even bailed.
When Gabriel Torres discovers his rival, April’s former coach, has dropped her mid-season, he has a choice to make: stick with the plan and a team that’s sure to win or add April to his roster. She’s a risk—one that may cost him his chance at making the dream team of his coaching company, and yet, he sees a spark in her—something he’d pay good money to bottle and add to his other athletes’ electrolytes.
As training heats up, their relationship slips from professional to casual to something else entirely, and they soon realize there is more at stake than just a race.

I'm the author, so I'm 100% biased. I never write reviews on my own books, but I think it's fair that I rate the performance on this audiobook. The narrators crushed it. Absolutely ate and left no crumbs. Let's start with Marie Mitchell. Her voice is a mug of warm tea on a winter morning. It is smooth and calm and relaxing. Until it's not. When you get to the scenes where there is anger and hurt, my girl brings the heartbreak and she brings it hard. Moving on to Gabriel Michael. The attention to detail! The way he gasps and rasps and takes in sharp breaths at just the right moment. MERCY. It is art. Then there is how he brings energy and life to each individual character. It is honestly nothing short of incredible. I know this story inside and out, and they still had be laughing out loud at times and crying at others. This narration brings the full spectrum of emotions. So a word of warning to potential listeners, don't pick up this audiobook unless you are ready to feel.
A MILLION BILLION STARS!!!! Oh my gosh!! The way they brought this book to life!!! You just have to hear it to understand. One of the best audiobooks I’ve ever listened to. I blushed, I laughed, I cried. Just pure perfection in every way. I’m OBSESSED!!!
FIRST OF ALL, THE NARRATION. SHUT up. It was perfect LIKE SO PERFECT. Guys...I was on 1.6 speed (which is slow for me). I adored Gabriel & Marie! The duet narration was perfect and BOTH of them did a phenomenal job with inflections, emotions, and storytelling through this book!!!
I had the pleasure of listening to an ALC of The Trouble with Love and Coaches! It was SUCH a fun read! The first half was lots of fun banter and tension, AND the second half delivered with emotions, grief response, and character growth/insight!
April + Gabe were both characters who had to grow & the book showcased their growth beautifully!
We also got some Emily and Beck (I LOVE THEM)! It was a subtle nod to The Trouble with Love and Ink! Well, you do not have to read it first, it did make it a little more fun when you saw them showing up!!! 🥰
Always, always honored to ARC read! Thank you, @harrietashfordwriter for trusting me with an arc!
Friends, snag a copy of TWWLAI first and then you are going to want to dive into this one!
Perfect for readers who love romance, enjoy 🌶️ or don’t mind skipping, willing to read about grieve/growth, and love fun characters!!!
My first advanced listener copy and this was a treat that I absolute devoured. Thank you so much Harriet Ashford for this opportunity and this wonderful story - it will stay with me for a long time. I am pretty picky when it comes to narrators, loving my audio and graphic audio books but this was a wonderful duet narration and I haven’t stopped talking about it!
April Baird is desperate to finally complete an Iron Man, all 140.6 miles of it, all in honour of her mum. When her coach drops her, Gabriel Torres quickly steps up and adds her to his roster, even at the risk of losing out on a big promotion. Training for hours on end leads to their relationship becoming more than professional and as time goes on, it grows into something even more.
April, she is a girl after my own heart, with her love for audiobooks (yes, that kind) and her incredible determination made her such a likeable character. Losing her mum 💔 I could relate to this so closely and there was a moment where I stood in my kitchen crying when a note was found - you’ll have to listen but it really got me. Gabriel Torres has his own demons to work on and seeing these come to light, his reasonings behind his feelings was so raw and real.
The story was incredible and hearing these incredible voice actor bring it to life just added to the experience. Marie Mitchell, thank you for bringing April to reality - you captured her so perfectly, with her sarcasm and her true essence so beautifully. Gabriel Michael, I am already a huge fan but I loved hearing you in a real-life role. Gabriel became so real and raw through you, not to mention the Spanish lines too 🤭
Go and add this to your audible now! It’s a fun story, one I laughed so loudly at but also so real, hence the tears 🥲 it’s not one you want to miss!
The narrators did an amazing job with this book. I absolutely loved the emotion behind the voices during some scenes (I won’t go into too many details) Harriet did a fabulous job writing this book, and she showed the growth between the two main characters really well. Marie and Gabriel brought this book to life and I loved it!
Thank you Harriet for giving me the opportunity to listen to the ALC for this book! I am so grateful and excited for book 3!
I loved this book when I first read it, but listening to the audiobook took the story to a whole new level. Hearing Gabe’s internal conflict and April’s strength brought to life through the narrators made every emotion hit harder. The performance added an intimacy and realism that made me feel like I was right there with them, on the racecourse, in their quiet moments, and through every heartbreak and triumph.
Gabe’s fear of turning into his father felt even more raw and vulnerable in audio, and April’s resilience and warmth balanced it perfectly. Their chemistry is electric, and Harriet Ashford’s writing shines even brighter when you can hear the tension, growth, and love unfold.
If you enjoyed the book, the audiobook is absolutely worth the reread. It deepens the experience and reminds you why this story is such a standout.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Absolutely Obsessed. Somebody Please Check on My Standards Because They’ve Been Permanently Raised.
You know that feeling when you think you're just pressing play on a little audiobook to keep you company…and suddenly you’re emotionally attached, fully feral, and ready to build a shrine to the MMC? Yeah. That was me with The Trouble with Love and Coaches.
From the very first chapter, I fell hard for Gabriel. He is the definition of a gentle giant — the kind of man who could lift a car but would apologize to it afterward. His traumatic past is written with such depth and vulnerability that you can’t help but instantly trauma-bond with him. And April? She’s navigating her own loss and grief, and Harriet Ashford writes her with such authenticity that her healing journey feels tender, warm, and beautifully real.
This story is a gorgeously woven blend of self-deprecating humor, soft moments, emotional grit, and a deeply satisfying romantic payoff. It’s steamy, it’s sweet, it’s smart... truly everything you want in a contemporary romcom.
And then there is the narrators.
THE NARRATORS!
Gabriel Michael (yes — Zayden from Fourth Wing) is the perfect Gabriel. He gives a performance so brilliant, so emotionally textured, so alive, that I honestly can’t imagine anyone else in the role. Marie Mitchell brings April to life with such heart and warmth that it feels like she was hand-picked from April’s soul.
I read the book before listening, and the audio somehow made me love it even more. Their chemistry is palpable, the delivery feels real and raw, and every emotion lands exactly as it should.
Harriet Ashford has such a gift for balancing humor, high stakes, and swoony romance. I’m so impressed. This audiobook is an absolute masterpiece, and I adored every second.
10/10 would recommend. 12/10 would relisten just to hear Gabriel breathe again.
🎙️Duet narration by Marie Mitchell and Gabriel Michael was gold! Yes, that’s right. The voice of Xaden gives life to Gabe and G-D it is… hot.🔥🥵😮💨 Full disclosure, I haven’t read (or listened to) Fourth Wing yet, but after this, I’m on it. Every time Gabe’s voice drops, growls or throws down some dirty talk gave me the good shivers.
Marie Mitchell voiced the first book in the series (The Trouble with Love and Ink) and I loved it! She narrated that one singly and proved her excellence, so I was stoked to see she was recast for this. Her voice is so natural, and the emotional range is believable.
Together, Marie and Gabriel gave a performance that is so totally enjoyable and binge-worthy you will not regret picking this up!
» April and Gabe are strong MCs; relatable, likeable, and easy to connect with. They both had good growth through their individual trauma and issues.
» I was hooked quickly and devoured the book; it flows logically and was well-organized and paced, making it fun to read.
❝Gabriel didn’t kiss me as though it might be a mistake. He kissed me like each break between our lips was.❞
» Harriet Ashford’s writing is comfortable and engaging with clever dialogue and banter.
✩ April’s bookishness makes her feel like a kindred spirit; she likes her books spicy! I love that she introduced Gabe to spicy audiobooks. Gotta love a man who sees romance books as tools, not threats!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️½ rounded up!
📱✨ Thank you to Harriet for the ALC for review as part of Team Trouble 😈
𝐓𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 🚴 Sports romance ⏱️ Coach/athlete 💏 Dual POV ↕️ Height difference 🤫 Secret relationship 🥰 Found family 🛏️ Forced proximity ❤️🩹 He takes care of her ❤️🔥 Protective MMC
Thank you, Harriet, for the opportunity to revisit this beautiful story with my ears!
First of all—Gabriel Michael speaking SPANISH!!! YASSSSS 🫠 This man can do no wrong! This was his first attempt at Spanish, and he absolutely nailed it. Gabriel, if you ever read this, I volunteer as tribute to help with any future Spanish scripts! 😆 As Coach Gabe, he was perfection. You could feel the pain in his voice when he opened up about his past and why he keeps his walls so high.
Marie’s sweet, soothing voice brought April to life in the most tender way. It was like ASMR for the soul. Gentle, comforting, and warm, like being wrapped in a hug.
Together, these two were magic. Their chemistry, their emotion, it all just worked. I can’t recommend this audiobook enough!
Now, about the story itself, I’ll be honest, I was hesitant at first. I’m not a sports person… at all! But I’m so glad that didn’t stop me from diving in, because this book turned out to be something truly special. It’s easily one of my favorite reads of 2025.
As a lupus warrior, the recurring mention of butterflies made my eyes water every single time. 🦋 I, too, have faced childhood trauma and the long journey of healing. But this story reminded me that sometimes, it takes one extraordinary person to help you see life through a softer, brighter lens again
This book was an absolute pleasure to listen to. Harriet wrote a great story. I so sweet, swoony, funny, real, raw, emotional and heartwarming. I loved how different this sports romance felt. not only was it a sport I don't see written about but it is like its a main character itself. The characters are feel so real, they are well thought-out and executed. The personal struggles, and growth they both go through is so palpable. The details in this story are so beautifully sown in that if never feels over done.
The narrators Gabriel Michael and Marie Mitchel take this story to a new level. They bring forward the humor and make the pain even more visceral. The way the both emote to make the characters emotions palpable and real. Both bring such humanity to a very well written book, its just that human emotion in Gabriel and Maries voice acting.
I love the chemistry between April and Gab. They took me though a journey I wont soon forget. I love the personal growth they both need to go through in thisbookk with the emotionalscarsthey both have. April is so strong but sill second guesses herself. Gab is a protector but his fear of the worst happing to him sets him back. I loved the way their relationship progressed and the lightness they brought to each other.
Thank you Harriet Ashford for the ALC. These are my honest opinions and feelings.
I’m obsessed. I cannot get over how good this book is! Harriet Ashford has officially earned a spot on my auto-buy list. Her writing is warm, heartfelt, and perfectly spiced with humor and tension. I adored her debut, The Trouble with Love and Ink, but The Trouble with Love and Coaches somehow managed to exceed every expectation I had. April and Gabe? I fell hard. So hard, in fact, that I found the perfect doormat for April while shopping at Ace Hardware (yes, that’s a new level of bookish devotion for me!) Their story is packed with yearning, respect, and emotional depth, and the Ironman triathlon backdrop adds a unique layer to their journey. Plus, the fictional town of Pearville, inspired by my hometown outside Houston, made the experience even more special. Harriet sprinkled in nostalgic details that hit me right in the heart.
And the audiobook narration? Absolute perfection. I read the book about six months before listening, and I didn’t think I could love it more but the narrators brought April and Gabe to life in a way that elevated the entire story. They captured Harriet’s wit and the delicious tension between the characters so beautifully.
This was an amazing read and listen. Highly, highly recommend!
I am so incredibly grateful for the opportunity to have received an advanced listener copy of The Trouble with Love and Coaches from the author! 🫶
I AM SQUEALING HARD! 😍❤️ This audiobook is everything! 🥹💕 It’s duet narration and Gabriel Michael and Marie Mitchell did such an amazing job that I had goosebumps going up and down my arm! 🫶
Something I truly loved about this book is how it dives into the struggles of training for an Ironman. I have never seen an Ironman represented before in a book before and it was so fascinating getting to learn so much more about it! ❤️ April is such a determined FMC and wanting to complete an Ironman race so badly to honor her mom’s memory! 🩷 She’s had some pretty bad luck with completing the Ironman in the past. Gabriel on the other hand is the coach that takes April on as a client after her coach drops her a few months before the iron man event and he is amazing. The banter and chemistry between them is *chef’s kiss* and the forbidden aspect with them being coach/client made it even more fun! 🤭🔥
If you love sports romance books, Ironmans, a protective MMC, coach x client, found family, and a book that is a must-listen then this is the one for you! 🫶
Thank You Harriet for the opportunity to enjoy an advance listen of April and Gabe’s story. I will never stop loving these two. 🖤
I want to preference this review by saying, I am not a huge audio girlie. It takes along time for me to fine an audiobook to listen to because I’m picky with the narrator’s. That being said.
I would love to give Marie and Gabriel Michael a standing ovation. 👏🏻 These two were absolutely killers. I absolutely loved Marie in TWLAI but having Marie and Gabriel Michael voicing April and Gabe made the characters come to life.
Gabriel Michael made Gabe’s character more swoon worthily 🥵🥵😍😍 . He is cocky when needed, and when he speaks Spanish 🥵👀
Marie allows Aprils story to hit you right in the heart. She really takes you on full emotional rollercoaster of April Baird’s Journey. I absolutely adore her ability to make a character come to life.
Our FMC April is training to complete her first Iron Man (an extremely long triathlon) when her coach unexpectedly fires her as a client. Her new coach is a major hottie who doesn't believe in love. Can they keep it professional?

The flirting and banter, plus a last name nickname! These are a few of my favorite things!!
This audiobook is duet narration, which is my favorite! Both of the audiobook narrators were great. The narrator of Gabriel is Xaden from the Graphic Audio of Fourth Wing and he almost seemed like too sexy at first but I probably couldn't separate him from that role for a few chapters. I thought he did a great job and I enjoyed both of the narrators a lot.
This audiobook of TTWLAC has been absolutely perfection! Seriously, if I could have Gabriel and Marie narrating every book, then I would never struggle with listening to another audiobook ever. I have officially completed my first audiobook and I couldn't be happier listening to these two.
Dual narration is a game changer. It's that extra detail that you didn't know you needed. Gabriel and Marie bring the chemistry of April and Gabriel right off the pages. I thought April's mom's letter was emotional before try listening to that from Marie. Again perfection.
Seriously, the book was amazing the first time I read it and again hearing it narrated by these two.
We need a trigger warning for Love and Ink though because the way Gabriel moans should not be allowed. Even some of his sexy encouraging voices have been amazing. Ok, listen I can't run if my life depended on it, but Gabriel pushing you just a little further? How far? I absolutely can run it.
April has always dreamed of completing an Ironman, but for the past three years, something has always kept her from crossing that finish line. This year, just when she’s determined to finally make it happen, her coach drops her halfway through the season. Enter Gabriel, her coach’s rival, who steps in to train her. As their workouts intensify, so does the spark between them.
I loved following April and Gabriel’s journey, both in the race and in their growing relationship. Gabriel Michaels and Marie Mitchell were absolutely perfect narrators, bringing these characters and their tender connection to life. If you’re looking for a sweet, feel good romance, this one’s for you!
This sports romance was so unique and fun to listen to! The duet narration of Gabriel Micheal and Marie Mitchell was absolutely phenomenal! (I think they are my new favorite narration pair!) They portrayed the undeniable dynamic connection between the relatable main characters, April and her coach, Gabriel perfectly. I enjoyed how the plot was driven by romance and the sport of training for and competing in the Ironman triathlon sport itself, but also that there’s support, there’s banter, there’s spice, and there’s sweetness between the characters too. It’s lighthearted, joyful and enduring. From start to finish, I was completely invested and loved the well done, well produced audiobook version. 4.25 stars Thank you to the author for the ALC
The Trouble with Love and Coaches by Harriet Ashford
This book is one of my all-time favorite sports romance books, so when I heard there was going to be an audiobook with two of my favorite narrators, I RAN to sign up for the chance to listen to it!
As someone who listens to ALOT of audiobooks, I don't say this lightly... this is my #1 romance audiobook EVER! @gabriel_m_michal and @mariemitchellvo are EXACTLY how I imagined these characters sounding. Their amazing talent brings this book to life.
@harrietashfordwriter I didn't think I could love this book more, but I was proven wrong. Thank you for the chance to listen to this book early!
I absolutely adored listening to The Trouble with Love and Coaches! The narrators, Marie Mitchell and Gabriel Michael, did an AMAZING job with their characters April and Gabe. The love story unfolding between these two friends was beautiful to watch, especially as they each had their own challenges to overcome. The spice was spicy and a perfect fit for this book. This is my first book to read by Harriet Ashford, but it will not be the last!
Thank you to the author, Harriet Ashford, for the ACL!
When I saw that @gabriel_m_michal was narrating the MMC, I knew I ABSOLUTELY needed to listen to it. I was fortunate enough to get an ALC copy from the author @Harrietashfordwriter! This was my first sports romance book and I really enjoyed this story and found myself instantly rooting for April, who is voiced by @Mariemitchellvo. Both of them really brought these characters to life and the chemistry between them was so good.
This audiobook is perfection!! Gabriel Michael does it again. How fitting that his main character’s name is also Gabriel 😆 Marie Mitchell was also fantastic. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 100% recommend to romance book lovers who also love spice. 🌶️ And of course none of this wouldn’t be possible without Harriet Ashford who is amazing at story telling. I read this book after “the trouble with love and ink” and I love that the stories are linked. Can’t wait to read book three of the trouble series!
I've said it before, and I'll say it again. I’ll read anything Harriet Ashford writes. Period.
This time, I had the honor of receiving an ALC, and let me tell you: the audio performance took this story to an entirely new level. Marie Mitchell and Gabriel Michael were absolutely STUNNING in this duet narration. The way they brought these characters to life was so natural and emotionally rich. The nonverbals made it for me. The soft giggles, the exhales or sighs, the quiet tension, the chemistry you can actually hear. Perfection.
The Trouble with Love and Coaches has it all: ✨ Complex characters who feel real ✨ A fierce, determined female lead you want to root for ✨ Banter that made me grin ✨ Massage scenes that brought the swoon ✨ A rescue dog ✨ Emotional depth and mental health representation ✨ Healthy, mature communication ✨ A sporty backdrop that keeps the stakes high
April’s journey to complete an Ironman felt powerful and deeply personal. Her grit and growth were such a joy to follow. And Gabe? Competitive, steady, compassionate, and emotionally present in the best way. Their connection translated beautifully in audio. Truly magnetic.
Harriet has a gift for writing relationships that feel grounded, tender, and full of heart. Pair that with a stellar performance from two narrators who fully understand these characters, and you get an audio book experience that sticks with you.
If you're in the mood for something heartfelt, smart, and warm, I cannot recommend this audio enough. I devoured it in just a couple of days!
Oh my gosh! I am blushing, squealing and crying all at the same time. From having a horrible coach has ruined your self image and esteem, to then finding a man with a heart of gold who wouldn’t hurt a fly, i couldn’t put this down! And the two narrators hooked me from the first word! Such great talent, their performances definitely bring this amazing story to life!
I read this originally last year as a beta reader, then read it again after final pub date earlier this year, and still jumped so fast at the opportunity to listen to the audiobook!
ARE WE KIDDING with these amazing narrators?! Gabriel Michael and Marie Mitchell did an AMAZING job on this audiobook and totally brought it to a new level. (Also: Gabriel voices Xaden Riorson for all my Fourth Wing girlies!)
🚲Sports romance (Iron Man) 💜Coach/client (aka forbidden romance) 🚲Chemistry/spice 💜FMC to root for! 🚲Bilingual MMC (omg Gabriel killeddddd this) 💜HEA
April and Gabriel (totally kismet that the MMC and his narrator have the same name) are amazing together. The swoon, the spice, the banter?! LOVE. Gabriel is such an amazing coach and person. April is so driven and lovely, and I’m so proud of her (is it weird to be proud of a book character? Too bad, I am!)
Back when I read this I was cheering, smiling, laughing, swooning…and the audiobook experience just heightened these emotions.
Thank you, Harriet, for the ALC! I absolutely loved beta reading this, and to come back many months later and listen to the audiobook was amazing!
I absolutely loved reading this book but the audio book was like a whole new experience! 💜🦋
It was amazing and the narrators did an amazing job bringing the characters to life! There voices were perfect for this story. This is definitly a book I will be relistening too
I absolutely loved reading this book, but hearing it? Oh- so good. Dual POV with dual narrators and they actually speak their own parts, even if it’s not their chapter? Praise all things holy!
April seemed to always have the worst luck until one person showed her that all she had to do was believe in herself. In turn April showed him how to love and be loved. Such a good audiobook.
Favorite Quote: “The comraderie of human existence — of us all being in the thick of it—held hope. We were all broken, but we weren’t alone.”
I listened to this audiobook in two days and am still thinking about it over a week later. Gabriel Michael and Marie Mitchell’s duet narration was even better than I could have anticipated! On top of that, Harriet Ashford’s writing style drew me in from the very beginning. The characters’ chemistry was undeniable, and the story-telling was relatable and exciting at the same time. I found myself cheering for April and Gabe in both their physical competitions and through their love story. If you’re looking for a feel-good romance that will make you kick your feet and squeal out loud, this one is definitely for you! Just look out for the trigger warnings: domestic violence and child abuse is mentioned through conversations and flashbacks. What an incredible read!
