Undercover cop Dan Hudson is framed for blackmail and kicked off the NOPD force. Enraged about that, and the fact that his lover refuses to stand by him, Dan moves to Denver, where he becomes Dirk Steele. He finds a job working for the Powells, who are pawnbrokers ... and fences.
When he proposes to them than he put together a team to steal on demand for the Powells’ less than legitimate clients, a deal is struck and the team is formed. The team consists of Maverick, a thief; Tripp, a street kid who shoplifts to survive; and Fey, another street kid who is an excellent pickpocket and petty thief.
Now the question becomes, will the team succeed? And, equally important, will the attraction between Dirk, who has sworn off love, and Maverick -- whose credo is only down and dirty sex -- grow into something more? Or will they remain just 'friends with benefits'?
Time will tell as the team takes on increasingly difficult jobs and a man from Dirk's past shows up who could possibly throw a monkey wrench into the works.
Born and bred Cleveland, I earned a degree in technical theater, later switched to costuming, and headed to NYC. Finally seeing the futility of trying to become rich and famous in the Big Apple, I joined VISTA—Volunteers in Service to America—ending up in Chicago for three years. Then it was on to Denver, where I put down roots and worked as a costume designer until I retired in 2007.
I began writing a few years ago after joining an online fanfic group. Two friends and I then started a group for writers, where they could post any story they wished, no matter the genre or content. Since then I've been writing for publication. My first book came out in February of 2011. Most, but not all, of my work is M/M, either mildly erotic or purely 'romantic'. More often than not it involves a mystery or action/adventure, and is sometimes paranormal as well.
4.5 stars. A story of Dan aka Dirk and starting his life again away from his last career...it seems he has new plans that turns out completely different with his former job. Dirk meets Maverick which leads to Tripp and Fey and the others together they join a merry group of thieves. A great book of trilling adventures and planning included with some great moments. Sexy scenes and humor from them all, I loved the funny parts in this even some coming from Fey with her decorating ideas. I'd read "A Cure From Boredom" and wondered how they'd all met. Yah a good idea to read this book first I think, although they are standalone books.
Detective Dan 32 years was undercover in a mission regarding drugs. Until he'd been framed and looses his boyfriend and job.
There are times in life that being on the right side of the law isn’t the best place to be. No matter how good you are things can blow up. Dirk Steele finds this out the hard way when after two years of busting his butt undercover to bring down a corrupt businessman he finds himself framed. When even betrayed by his lover of 5 years he disappears moving far from New Orleans. He makes new friends and not knowing what else to do for a living but use his undercover skills he finds himself on the wrong side of the law.
This is a very good book. Even though it teaches bad ethics it is still a feel-good sort of story. Dirk was wronged and though he is now a leader of a theft ring he has gotten two young kids off the streets, and even saved an abused dog. So there is a balance there. The story is lighthearted, and sweet with some moderately hot love scenes. There are several characters involved in this story and all with interesting storylines. There is a touch of mystery and intrigue as well. I will say that for me there was a few details left hanging that I would have like to seen wrapped up and a few things were just too easy but this is fiction and all in all the story was good. I see a little potential here for another book and hope that I am right!
If you like good cops gone bad, thieves, Ocean’s Eleven, lots of characters, sweet romance, moderate sex scenes and a very feel-good story this is a must!
books it drags you in right from the start and holds you captive throughout. I loved the characters Especially Dan or Dirk as he is called now, he was betrayed by his department and lover and decides that instead of wallowing he will turn his life in a different direction and use what he learned as a cop and put it to good use (love that). Dirk is sexy, confident in his abilities and smart as hell. Maverick catches his eye right from the beginning, love him too. They are perfectly matched and Maverick is a smart as hell hotty. Tripp and Fey were just awesome, I love how Dirk took them from nothing and gave them hope, a life and love (like a family). This mismatched team were kick ass throughout, love the newcomers and of course Lucky. This book is so creatively written and unique, it's one of my favorites from Edward Kendrick. It sounds as if it could be a series (no real cliffhanger) but there is some things that could continue on in another book...just saying...lol 5 HUGE STARS review by Nanee at upallnightreadallday.blogspot.com
