Rate this book
This book explores the basis and development of homeopathic medicine, identified by the World Health Organization as Earth's second most popular system of medicine. Homeopathy is discussed in the context of modern healthcare, and the similarities and differences with conventional medicine are described.

The principles of natural medicine in general and homeopathy in particular are addressed through answering the most common questions people ask when considering alternative healthcare. One chapter dives into recent scientific research, another focuses on how to choose a good practitioner, and there are eight brief true case studies.

Throughout the book there are reflections on the meaning of good health, sickness, and medicine itself. The overall outlook encourages mutual respect and thoughtful integration of the various healthcare options which are available to us today.

Homeopathy Rising is an engaging and thorough introduction to homeopathic healing that I would recommend to anyone interested in alternative approaches to health and wellbeing. Drawing on the fact that homeopathy is considered the second most popular healthcare system in the world, the book does an excellent job of answering common questions about how homeopathy works, where its principles come from, and how it differs from conventional medicine.

The author guides readers through a broad overview of the fundamental principles of homeopathy, and the narrative includes a tour of scientific research, practical explanations, and real case stories that illustrate natural medicine in action. It offers an individualized, humane, and thoughtful perspective on healthcare—not just homeopathy as an isolated modality but as part of a holistic and integrated model of wellness.

I found the mix of theory and illustrative examples especially helpful. The true case stories lent life to concepts that might otherwise feel abstract, and the scientific research discussions added depth without overwhelming the reader. Whether you are entirely new to homeopathy or simply looking to deepen your understanding, this book gives you plenty to think about.

At times the information felt dense, and readers looking for a light or quick overview might find some sections more involved than expected. However, the clarity of explanation and the author’s commitment to presenting both principles and practical insights kept me engaged throughout.

Overall, Homeopathy Rising is an insightful and well-organized guide that provides a meaningful foundation for understanding homeopathic medicine. I would recommend it to readers curious about natural healing who want a balanced and thoughtful introduction.

As someone who prefers herbal and alternative medicine, I have long struggled to fully understand homeopathy. The concept of nano-medicine—potentized solutions containing particles so small they seem almost implausible—has always been difficult for my brain to grasp. I approached Homeopathy Rising with curiosity, skepticism, and a genuine desire to learn.

At the core of my beliefs is the idea that God designed our bodies to heal themselves. From that perspective, it makes sense that small-dose medicine could act as a stimulus, nudging the body toward healing rather than overriding its natural processes. Still, homeopathy felt like a leap—until this book helped frame it within a broader understanding of how the body responds to subtle interventions.

I’ve experienced a similar tension with acupuncture. Logically, I cannot fully explain how it works, yet I know firsthand that it helped heal my body when other medical interventions failed. Homeopathy Rising gently challenges the assumption that something must be fully understood to be effective.

One quote in particular stood out to me:

“When pharmaceuticals became the predominant form of medical treatment in the 20th century, there was a period of diminishing mortality rates from infectious disease…but it should give us pause to consider that since that time, there has been an extraordinarily steep increase in degenerative, inflammatory, immune-related diseases. Suffering from mental and emotional health problems, and rates of infertility have also increased drastically. A host of disorders, which were rare or even unknown, have become commonplace.”

This perspective invites important questions about the long-term trajectory of modern medicine and whether symptom management has come at the expense of addressing root causes.

Ultimately, Homeopathy Rising reinforced my belief that medicine is not one-size-fits-all. While Western medicine has its place and its strengths, alternative approaches—including homeopathy—deserve thoughtful consideration alongside it. This book offers a compelling case for an integrated approach to healing, one that respects the body’s innate wisdom and seeks to treat the whole person rather than just the symptoms.

I would recommend this book to anyone curious about homeopathy, especially those who value holistic health but struggle to understand how these methods work.

Homeopath Rising was an interesting read. The fastest growing medicine? Second most popular healthcare system on earth?

The author, a holistic nutritional therapist and homeopath, was clearly passionate about this form of alternative medicine and here we have an introduction into the world of homeopathy. The book was pitched as an introduction to homeopathy and in that way it was written well. It was easy to understand for anyone considering using homeopathy either themselves or in a practice.

The use of many articles ranges from 2008 to 2025. The report on Traditional and Complementary Medicine that was quoted comes from 2019, however most of that information is 2012 and older. A more updated report would need to be cited, like the 2024 report from the same organisation, to make this particular citation current and relevant.

The book was well referenced with several articles and papers ranging from 2001 to 2025. While some of the references specify homeopathy, others were hard to relate back to the book and its message. Furthermore, some links were to homescreens of websites instead of specific articles or papers. A clearer list of where these citations are used in chapters would help with the confusion as they are listed alphabetically on her website.

Unfortunately, as the author was speaking about what the scientific community concludes about homeopathy, she completely rebutted them in a way that came across as biased and single-mindedly researched. A more well rounded opinion and respect for the scientific research would have been appreciated.

The purpose of the book was to encourage people to use a (according to the author) very fast growing form of alternative medicine. After looking through the bibliography on their website, I thought this was a bold claim with not enough clear evidence. The rebuttal of the scientific community, and the idea of the placebo effect was, in my opinion, disrespectful.
As an introduction to the principles and history of homeopathy, this was well written and easy to follow. However, unfortunately I can’t recommend this as a resource for anyone that wants a deeper, unbiased opinion.

In Homeopathy Rising: A Deep Introduction to Earth’s Fastest Growing Medicine, author, holistic health practitioner, and educator S. Marjorie Ratliff sets out to answer common questions about homeopathy—an often misunderstood and largely unregulated healthcare system that is nonetheless the second most widely used in the world. Drawing on current scientific research and real-world case stories, Ratliff explains the core principles of natural medicine with the goal of helping readers better understand their healthcare options and make more informed decisions about their own health.

I was drawn to this book for two main reasons. First, I’ve long preferred natural approaches to health over conventional medicine, which often emphasizes symptom management through pharmaceuticals. Second, I’ve always found the terminology and varying approaches within natural healthcare confusing. This book felt like a good opportunity to gain clarity.

I wasn’t disappointed. Ratliff presents the material in an accessible, straightforward way, clearly explaining key concepts, offering sensible comparisons, and using examples that are easy for non-specialists to follow. She makes a strong case for homeopathy while also acknowledging complexity within the field. Notably, she raises thoughtful concerns about certain trends in the homeopathic community, questioning whether moving away from well-established practices represents progress or potential risk.

I listened to the audiobook version, narrated by Becky Parker. The narration is clear and approachable, which further enhances the book’s value as an introduction to the subject.

Whether you’re curious about homeopathic medicine, disillusioned with conventional healthcare, or satisfied with your current treatment but still invested in your long-term health, this book is well worth checking out.

Homeopathy Rising – Review

I went into Homeopathy Rising with some prior familiarity with homeopathic medicine. While I hadn’t read deeply on the subject in several years, especially since COVID, I was genuinely curious to see what had changed. I hoped to learn about new developments, emerging treatments, or any meaningful dialogue between homeopathy and Western medicine. To some extent, the book did address a few of those interests.

However, I found myself increasingly disappointed by the book’s lack of objectivity. To be clear, I wasn’t expecting the author to praise or even endorse Western medicine. That wasn’t my issue. The problem was that nearly every discussion of homeopathy was paired with pointed criticism of Western medicine, and that tone became distracting. Instead of drawing me further into the subject, it repeatedly pulled me out of the learning experience.

For me, it’s difficult to absorb useful or potentially beneficial information when it’s framed as being superior to some “terrible other thing.” I don’t need constant reminders of what the author believes is wrong elsewhere. I want to be told what is beneficial, how it works, and why it matters. I can make my own judgments beyond that. Unfortunately, the repeated negative comparisons made the book feel less informative and, at times, uncomfortably close to a conspiracy-theory tone.

Because of that, I would not recommend Homeopathy Rising to someone who is new to homeopathic medicine. Readers already committed to or enthusiastic about the subject may be more able to overlook these issues, but for those seeking a balanced, introductory, or exploratory perspective, this book is likely to frustrate more than enlighten.

This was a really interesting and thought-provoking read. Homeopathy Rising does a solid job explaining what homeopathy actually is and why so many people around the world are drawn to it. I appreciated that the book takes time to walk through the philosophy behind it, the history, and how practitioners approach treating people as individuals instead of just treating symptoms.

One thing I liked was the case stories sprinkled throughout the book. They helped put the ideas into real-life situations instead of everything feeling abstract or overly technical. The author also references research and tries to address some of the common criticisms and confusion surrounding homeopathy, which made the discussion feel more balanced and thoughtful.

At times the book felt a little dense and detailed, especially in the sections explaining the science and theory. It wasn’t hard to follow, but I occasionally wished it moved a bit faster. Still, if you’re curious about alternative or complementary medicine, it’s definitely informative.

Whether you fully agree with homeopathy or just want to understand why it’s so widely used around the world, this book offers a lot to think about and encourages readers to look at healthcare from a broader perspective.

I have been using Homeopathic meds for 45 years now. I have always been happy with them, and I find I am never sick. I have not even had COVID-19. I truly believe that a good nutritional diet and exercise also help, but I know/ that homeopathic meds have also strengthened my immune system.
This book gives a great overall view of what it is all about. The book is narrated by the author, which I always love.

As someone who uses homeopathy, I really enjoyed this. I did have a base understanding of homeopathy but this gave me a much greater understanding of what it is, how it works and the history of it. Most people in the western world don't realize that homeopathy is integrated in the mainstream healthcare of several countries. This is a great book to dive in and learn about it. I enjoyed the narrators voice and it's also relatively short so it's not overwhelming in information.

I had absolutely no understanding of Homeopathy before reading this book. I only knew of rumors and misunderstandings from people around me, but I never took the time to learn about it. This book lays out the background, the science, the facts, and even addresses the exact rumors and misunderstandings that I had harbored for my entire life. The book does not go into gory details, but shares enough to allow you the space to know where to look if you want to learn more.
