As the bad-boy drummer for Cold Neptune, Jaxon King should be on top of the world. He’s rich and famous, has women throwing themselves at him, and his band is about to embark on a three-month European tour.
But Empress Records don’t see things the same way. The label needs him to clean up his image, and fast. Having a pretend girlfriend on his arm should do the job just fine.
Nora O’Callaghan never thought walking into a hotel bar would end with her signing her life away for three months. But she has money problems. Big ones. And as crazy as the idea seems, she’s not left with a lot of options. Being paid to play the fake girlfriend to a wild life-of-the-party drummer surely can’t end well.
Or maybe it can?
Because while fate decides who comes into your life, it’s your heart that decides who stays.
Shadows of You, book #4 in the Cold Neptune rock-star series can be read as a stand-alone full length steamy romance novel. It is intended for mature audiences 18+.
I received this as an ARC, so thank you to Karen Crompton for sending it
First, I was so excited to receive this that I finished it in less than 48 hours.
This story follows Jaxon, the drummer of Cold Neptune, and Nora, his fake wife, as they head over to Europe for their Exodus tour. While there, the two adults learned that certain rules are meant to be broken and thrown out the window. Jaxon and Nora also talk about their past, and holy shit, Jaxon. Poor Jaxon.
If you read the rest of the series, there are amazing updates on all couples and they are stupidly cute and amazing 😍
Jaxon is the sexy, hard-living drummer of Cold Neptune—your quintessential rockstar cliché with the booze, the drugs, and the endless stream of women. His label finally gives him an ultimatum, and he’s furious that his manager didn’t shield him from it. But just as he’s about to lose it, he sees her. One look at Nora’s beautiful face, and he knows instantly—she’s the answer. Nora is stunning and delightfully quirky. Boots and a puffer jacket on a sunny day in the high seventies? That’s just Nora. What starts as a contract quickly spirals into tequila-fueled chaos, unexpected chemistry, and a three-month European tour that takes them on a wild journey of friendship, trust, and love. I totally enjoyed the ride. The ending left me swooning—especially his words in the elevator. I loved, loved, loved this book. Five stars, highly recommended!
Karen Crompton has this way of pulling me right in to her books to where all concepts of time is lost while I devour her words. Shadows of You was no different and oh, how I wanted time to slow down as each turned page brought me closer to the end of the Cold Neptune series. Jaxon's playboy ways have finally caught up with and the label is just done. He is out of options and is now forced to have a fake girlfriend that will accompany him on the 3 month European tour. Not one to conform, he picks Nora, the wildly dressed woman who sits down next to him at the hotel bar. Dealing with her brother and about to lose her job, Nora has nothing to lose by signing on. This slow burn was the perfect mix of humor and healing. And the spice in this one is off the charts! Five Stars! A top read of 2025!
I have been so excited for this book, I was not disappointed. I made myself stop reading a few times, only because I didn't want to read The End signalling the end of what has been a fabulous series. Jaxon, drummer for Cold Neptune and a bad boy reputation is about to go on tour. His band mates have all calmed their lives down and the their record label wants the same fan perception for Jaxon. A fake relationship has been arranged for the duration of the tour, the label have a list of suitable women. Enter Nora, at the end of her tether with life she finds herself in a bar agreeing to go on tour with Jaxon, she can fix her life when she gets back. Nora is quirky, dresses to please herself, nothing like the rockstar girlfriend, not a bit like the women Jaxon favours, yet these two begin to feel that the rules for this relationship are not to be followed as they find the real them beneath the facade they have both built to hide the pain of their pasts. The humour, banter and oh let's not forget the off the charts spice, between Jaxon and Nora is great, they both use it to hide the grief and pain of the past. Can they trust each other enough to finally trust the pain can stop or will this all end badly at the end of the tour. The Epilogue, it is absolute perfection. All of the band members and their ladies are drawn into these last pages. I defy anyone to read this and not want to go back and meet the other members of Cold Neptune, or re-read if you already have met them. Karen has a way of making her characters so real, drawing you into their lives, good time and bad will have you laughing and sobbing in turn. This story is just another example of how Karen pours her heart and soul into her characters, she makes them feel so real it is hard to let them go.
I have loved the bandmates of Cold Neptune from the first chapter of Lyrics of Her. They each have such a unique story that though they intertwine through the series they are truly their own. Karen Crompton has found an amazing way to make these interconnected standalones really be able to stand on their own, there is not much given away in any of the books that you could easily pick up from any of them and dive right in. In this story you have characters that calling them opposites doesn't quite fully explain it. Jaxon and Nora are a pair you never would have put together and honestly it seems baffling to think of but somehow the way they are together makes more sense then you could ever imagine.
