Quiet, Mother, I'm tryin' to speak to our guests so they understand what they've gotten themselves into by buyin' this book. Well yes, of course they know about our story, my photo's right on the cover. It's just that we've got so much stuff in the house, I figured why not sell it, let some other folks enjoy it. Plus, I reckon that man sure did need my help. With the way his wife and kids were treatin' him and all. But he sure showed them, didn't he?
Now, Mother, that's not nice to say about our guests. Just because they like stories full of sin don't necessarily mean they'll burn in Hell for readin' them. This here book may have a story about a jumbo-sized baby that eats other little children for breakfast, or a tale told from the perspective of a dead hooker lying out in the woods where all kinda critters get to eatin' on her, or one, that I particularly relate to, about a family who all wear masks made of skin on their faces just tryin' their best to fit in and be part of normal society. And plenty more where that came from.
No, Mother, this ain't a book for a Christian woman like yourself. But for the ones who saw my photo on the cover and got curious, this is just the kinda book that might tickle their fancy. Even if they end up burnin' in Hell for it.
Hands down my favourite story collection ever! I am someone that does really struggle with anthologies and usually need something with more than short stories can offer, but this one packs a punch! I loved every single story in here, which is the first time that's ever happened. Of course I had favourites, but every single one had something new to sink my teeth into and hold my attention. Shane has written something unique here. Plots that are completely flawless and original. Characters that you're invested in from the get go! I'd give 10 stars if I could.
This is a short story collection with the most vile, sick, and twisted stories i’ve read in a while.
Some of my favorites being….
Carley is Dead- Carley is well dead, she’s sitting on the floor in the middle of the woods with no one to talk to but the bugs… but when the bugs start talking back to her she finally feels purpose.
Far slob- After some unfortunate events in a man and his wife’s life he has gain some weight.. a lot of weight. Not being able to move himself anymore his wife leaves him. In the middle of the night, someone breaks in, except it looks like a toddler oh and it starts to eat him too.
This was such a great short story collection. I’ve read some of these stories in the past from some of Shane’s other stuff and re reading them made it ten times better!
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to watch a bunch of oiled up, arthritic geriatrics dance in little neon G-strings? What about a magician that can bend flesh like the avatar- if he had Pinhead from hellraiser as a mentor? If that’s not your vibe, I get it. Maybe the ghost of Ed Gein coming down like Christ from the heavens to pass his not-so-holy hobby down to a family man just passing through town after a hellish road trip is more your style.
Whatever floats your boat- this book will have you laughing from start to finish. But of course, this is *the* Shane Mckenzie we are talking about, and while he lets you get your giggles in, he’s not letting you get through the book unscathed. With incredibly detailed and vivid imagery, McKenzie will walk you through flesh tearing, bones breaking, guts bubbling, vomit chucking, mucous madness. Your laughs will turn to gasps. The smile you had on your face will morph into a confused grimace while you furrow your brows and ask yourself, “Did I read that right?”.
They say grief has many stages, and so does “Ed Gein’s Garage Sale & Other Atrocities”
Brilliantly crafted, incredibly unique- and utterly disgusting. Hands down one of the best collections of stories I have read in this genre.
And to Shane McKenzie… I love whatever is wrong with you.
As stated in a previous post I went to @bigtexasterror this weekend and had the pleasure of meeting @shanemckenzie (and saving him from a super awkward conversation).
The moment I saw Ed Gein on this cover it was sold, but Shane told me a little bit about it and well it was then extra sold.
Rating a short story collection is difficult because each story is different. Some are phenomenal and others are just ok. (Regardless of author this is how I feel).
The first two stories in this one were my favorites, so I will say those were 5🌟. Ed Gein and a terrifying giant baby? 🤌🏼
Left me saying "what the fuck did i just read?" Shane McKenzie kicks ass with this wild short story collection. Some of the stories including giant demon babies, a Leatherface family, and Ed Gein himself.
If there is one thing I love, its short stories. Even more I loved messed up short stories and of course Shane delivers on both. I usually try to read one story a day when it comes to collections to enjoy, but I read this one so fast. The stories in here are wild and crazy in all the good ways, plus the visit from Ed Gein was the icing on the cake.
