Rate this book
God has a plan and a purpose for every person's life--a divine destiny. Yet many people are stuck, arrested in their spiritual development, because of problems in their emotional development. In Healing Your Past, Releasing Your Future, readers will explore the developmental process that forms the human personality and discover the impact, both positive and negative, of trauma at each stage of development. They'll connect the dots between their childhood hurts and their adult "stuckness" and be gently guided toward total healing and restoration in Christ. Based on sound doctrine and solid research, this book will offer healing to any reader with a wounded past, freeing them to move into the future God has planned all along.

Although this book was helpful, due to a number of reasons I have only given it three stars. Firstly, I didn't agree with some of the content and felt that Bible verses were at times used out of context or were poorly chosen. There was also a lot of repetition in the book, and I feel that this could have been reduced and space made for additional information. I also felt that it focussed too much on mothers to the neglect of the crucial role that fathers play in child rearing.
It is a useful book to look back on one's childhood and pinpoint areas of developmental lack and its impact on our adult lives. However, readers who are in the trenches raising children of their own should beware of over analysing their parenting in the light of this book. As parents we want to do the best by our kids, but none of us are perfect and we cannot parent perfectly. This book is written so that the reader can gain insight into their own upbringing, not to grade their parenting.

Great resource

This is a great resource for those looking to understand how the wounds of life at different stages of development may have impacted them as adults, and how to be healed of these wounds.

Very eye opening to what affects us as we grow up that can still be the source of our issues. Really enjoyed reading this and learning from it!
