Fame and Fortune: The Goddess of Fair Skies

Rate this book
Everyone wants to date a celebrity, right?

Not Roxy. When she spots her younger self in the mirror - again - Roxy knows another suitor is about to arrive. If only he wasn’t a celebrity! As Calypso, better known as the Goddess of Fair Skies, she’s too busy keeping the world’s oceans and the Goddess of Storms at bay. So, to avoid that thrum pulling her towards the A-lister, Roxy runs.

Rob can’t explain why he’s drawn to the sassy freethinker who hitched a ride on his yacht but wants nothing else from him. Unrequited attraction to island girls runs in the family, but he’s never met anyone like her. So, Rob sends his ex packing and braces himself for a slow-burn adventure...when Roxy is taken hostage.

Will Rob manage to woo Roxy, despite all the obstacles? Will Roxy give in to a carbon copy of someone she used to know, given that humans are a frail species?

What would you choose - deify your man OR live out your last life with the person you love?

Fame & Fortune is the last, 7th instalment of the Goddesses series—but it can be read as a standalone. (Though if you want the full divine drama, books 1–6 are waiting!)

I received an ARC copy of this book from the author and even though I wasn’t required to post a review on the book I really wanted to offer my honest, voluntary impression when I finished it.

This is the final book in the goddess series Sky has written and it contains longings of a lost love as well as curbing the advances of someone who reminds the goddess of fair skies of that love- which also later explains the resemblance.

Roxy has spent millennia being the goddess of fair skies but she is getting tired of handling others problems and just wants to enjoy peace and quiet for a while. Unfortunately that isn’t in the cards but the sudden change in the weather forced her to ask the boy who has a crush on her to let her buy his boat to get the one causing the weather problems to a remote least populated island in her beloved Caribbean where she makes a shocking discovery!
However, she finds she needs to get away and when she is in an accident she discovers the one who discounted her shows up at the hospital and the thirty five year period they’ve been apart is moot.

Love wants who it wants and absence does make the heart grow fonder when one gets a second chance they thought they could never have because of the circumstances that caused their separation in the first place!

What would you do or give up for the chance to experience a truly human life? This book gives you an interesting viewpoint you probably haven’t even thought about before.

I really enjoyed this book and this series about ancient goddesses and even newly minted ones as they grapple with their powers and also find pesky human emotions and wants entering in to muddy the waters of a serene existence leading these goddesses to contemplate their existences against growing desires being around humans.

I wholeheartedly and enthusiastically recommend this book and this series as ones I believe you’ll enjoy. Besides being an enjoyable escape from reality, many questions are poised throughout the books that if you give them the pause and contemplation they require you may find your views on subjects change after reading these books!

Good books do that for a reader- cause them to step out of their comfort zone and consider the real of “what if” and how it may apply to you personally!

I encourage you to get not only this book but this entire series as escape fantasy but at the same time ponder the statements and ideas presented therein as words of wisdom you shouldn’t disregard without serious contemplation!

Five heartbreaking Stars 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 for Fame and Fortune by Sky Sommers

🥱 Roxy, Goddess of Fair Skies, is tired. Tired of living, of being immortal, and especially tired of her responsibilities, a burden weighing heavier each passing day. But escape is scarce, even when she slips into the guise of Ana, the “niece” of her usual self.

💔 Yet another wedding is taking place at her hotel. In combination with the arrival of an incognito celebrity who makes her heart sing, it’s the final straw. Roxy needs to get away. Away from people she might get attached to, who will only cause heartbreak when their candle snuffs. Away from reminders of her loneliness, while other goddesses found their true love, making them immortal by sharing their burdens. But Roxy’s heart is still tethered to the one man she truly loved, and lost.

Things spiral out of control when Ana/Roxy discovers that the escape boat belongs to the very celebrity she was trying to avoid.

🌪️ Of course, there’s also still the unresolved issue with the out-of-control Storms she’s required to balance out. (Read what happened with Storms in: Storms and Schemes).
When things escalate, the celebrity, his elusive uncle and a remote island might be the solution to all of Roxy’s problems … but will she get what she bargained for, or will she – once again – come up short?

🙌 All in all, this last book in the Goddesses Series is a worthy ending to this 7-book series, especially because the new generation is already waiting in the wings. I’m certain we haven’t seen the end of all the goddesses and their offspring yet 😉

Even the gods make oopsies!
As with any new endeavor, the learning curve will always be there. And sometimes, it’s downright scary!
The author illustrates yet again that not everyone can handle power, let alone “Power”. If the Ancient immortals are having to volley off their various functions in order to maintain order in the universes, we mere mortals need to give ourselves a break.

The way Faith operates reminds me of when I worked in an IT department and witnessed how the Program Manager oversaw practically everything going on at headquarters. Both of them basically “herd cats” in their masterminding of needs, personalities, and resources while attempting to minimalize any foreseeable damages (and create contingency plans even for unforeseeable circumstances). Nurturing innumerable realms and timelines is more than balancing a pole while navigating a tightrope - the sheer amount of non-stop monitoring, calculating, and adjusting is beyond mind-boggling to me.
I really enjoyed this journey of watching this pantheon work in partnership in setting priorities, making choices, and accepting what’s truly meant to be.

The Caribbean setting of this book has me wanting to schedule a dip soon in my local Med…
Oh! But to exist solely ‘on sun and rum’.
‘Immersion in ocean waters resets the nervous system.’

While this is the series finale, the ending does allow for either closure or the possibility of a spin-off. Just like in our mortal realm, we truly have no idea what Fate (or Faith 😊) has in store for us next. May we all let go of what’s holding us back from living our lives to the fullest and leaving a legacy worth emulating.

Oh, what an unexpected and absolutely perfect conclusion to this series! I absolutely loved Roxy's second chance at romance. The twisty plot came with some totally unforeseen moments, and Roxy, who's always been my favorite goddess, has fantastic quips. I laughed so much! And of course the nail-biting moments really hit the spot too.

I like how the author really ties off all the loose ends of the series overarching plotline, and manages to bring both this standalone romance and the main story of the goddesses trying to make the best of some pretty terrible situations to a fantastic and satisfying conclusion. There's also a hint for a spin off series, that made me so happy! Can't wait.

If you enjoy contemporary fantasy or stories with tongue-in-cheek humor where each book can stand alone but you get so much more out of reading all of them because the interconnections are tricksy, then I can definitely recommend this whole series!

Riveting plot with twists and turns I did not see coming, keeping me engaged throughout. What an exciting story packed with a great mixture of deep thoughts, humor, action and unexpected romance!

The main characters in this book were fun - I enjoyed the second chance and age gap romance tropes, as well as the banter between Roxy and Rob!

Another thing I really liked is that it had multiple points of view (POV)! The author did a fantastic job of keeping the storyline separated nicely, yet continued without interruptions.

Even though this is the last book in the series, the author did a great job of separating out the parts of the story involving the other Goddesses, plus it was easy to understand on it's own, as a stand-alone book. I definitely recommend this book - and catch the whole series too!

This ultimate book in the series, like the ones before it, is about the search for true love and what we will do for it. Each couple has a different story. This is the story of Roxolana. Will she be able to find her true love without interference from Faith? Will it be a "happily ever after", or an "until death do us part"?

This is the final book and we get Roxy's second chance at romance. A well paced contemporary fantasy read where the author brings everything together whilst throwing twists and turns in our path. An exciting story filled with action, humour and of course a little romance and is a great ending to this series!
