Mortal Coil: Entwine

Rate this book
After the Third Vampire-Fae War, the University of Lustrum reopens as part of a peace project, where one representative from each creature-kind is asked to attend. They must not discuss what they vampire, werewolf, fae or something else.

That suits Verbena just fine, because nobody likes lamias. She hides the bronze in her skin, determined to swap a life of burping undead baby siblings for set painting, exploring abandoned libraries and making friends at the Baking Club, but when students start disappearing, she must dig into the university’s past and why did they close Lustrum in the first place?

A different question haunts Cassius. As the seventh in the line of succession of the most prominent vampire clan, he is determined not to relive the wars again, but intrusive thoughts from his Master seem to guide him to a weapon in the depth of the university, forcing him to why did the Master ask to reopen Lustrum?

As they work towards their goals in an institution that claims to treat all equally, can love blossom, or will it become eclipsed by mistrust and resentment?

I really enjoyed this book! Dark academia with vampires, fae, werewolves and more is ALWAYS going to be my vibe. Think a mix of crave and zodiac academy and you get Mortal Coil: Entwine book one.
The pacing in the beginning was a bit slow, but then picked up well as the book went on. I really enjoyed this and definitely can't wait for the next one!

It took me a minute to get into the story, probably about 40% of the book, but once I did I couldn’t put it down. It is probably because I don’t personally love a book that leaves the reader completely in the confusion the characters are facing but in this case it worked. I need to know what happens next…
