In this book, author and independent researcher Isaac Weishaupt presents hundreds of images and analysis from Stanley Kubrick's most popular films- 2001: A Space Odyssey, A Clockwork Orange, The Shining, and Eyes Wide Shut. Learn all about the conspiracy theory of the secret message Kubrick tried to convey about the occult and the Illuminati before his untimely passing. This book lays out examples of scenes and covertly placed messages and themes within Kubrick's films that supports the idea he was privy to the Illuminati secret agenda. The full-color images taken directly from the films are explained with analysis that suggests Kubrick knew much more than many people believe. This book contains some adult themes, but some images (specifically the Eyes Wide Shut scenes) have been edited to ensure no full nudity.
I read this book for a paper on conspiracy theories based on the films by Stanley Kubrick. Weishaupt is conspiracy theory nutjob who runs his own website/podcast, illuminatiwatcher.com. In this book, he "analyses" four Kubrick movies and tries to show that … The really strange thing is that it is actually not at all clear what he is trying to show.
Obviously, this book would never be considered "good" by any normal standards. The surprising thing for me was that It's also pretty bad when you read it on its own terms. For one thing, it's really sloppy. Weishaupt rarely cites any sources beyond his own website, even for things where it would be very easy to do. Also, there are many factual errors when it comes to Kubrick and the production of his movies.
But the most surprising thing is that there isn't really a strong argument that runs through the book. Weishaupt does not construct an overarching conspiracy theory, but rather just assembles random factoids and observations.
The basic premise is that the world is secretly run by the Illuminati and that Kubrick was somehow in on this (who or what the Illuminati are is never explained). This is why his films are supposedly full of references to the Illuminati and related secret societies and conspiracies. What is really not clear is whether Kubrick was supposed to be part of the conspiracy or whether he was trying to warn us through his films. In either case, the story does not add up, simply because Weishaupt does not tell a proper story. His approach is mainly cumulative: he simply lists all the moments in the movies which according to him somehow reference Illuminati ideas or iconography. From the point of view of more traditional hermeneutics, this is not so much a bad or far-fetched, but rather a lazy reading of Kubrick's films.
I guess the most damning thing you can say about this book is, that it's rather boring because it doesn't say anything interesting.
Good introductory work highlighting the bizarre attention to detail Kubrick utilized in many of his popular films, which serve as clues and puzzle pieces to conspiracies and government operations with which Kubrick had inner working knowledge of and/or experience with. Once you start researching this, it really gets too deep and intricate to blow off as mere coincidence. Several ties to the military-industrial complex, the global elite, monarch programming, the Apollo moon landing, the Native American genocide, and much more. Recommended as a starting point for entry into the strange world of conspiracy theories--or more appropriately--"coincidence" theories.
Although, I have seen the documentary film: Room 237, based on Kubrick's hidden secrets & symbolisms in the movie: The Shinning; I still had a hard time putting this book down. It really just exposed so much more; not only in that film, but in his others as well. Now, I want to go back and rewatch all the films mentioned in this book to catch all the symbolic stuff that I completely missed the first time around. Very interesting read. And what a very interesting person/director Stanley Kubrick was.
I wonder if the Kindle edition would be better for display of the many stills from film to which "prove" the authors points. The images in the print edition were sometimes rendered too darkly and ascertaining details was difficult. The Illuminati conspiracy angle is rather intriguing; and like any good conspiracy who is to say what is "truth". How very Kubrick like!
