A Better Boss Blueprint is a refreshing, fast, and accessible read for any busy boss—or anyone aspiring to step into leadership. Beyond traditional leadership advice, this book is a powerful reminder of the importance of reconnecting with your why. Too often, managers forget the value of compassion and empathy. We’re not machines; we’re humans with full lives outside of work. When a boss shows up for their team, the team shows up for them.

As a leader, I believe in building real relationships with the people I work with. Getting to know your team creates trust, and trust lays the foundation for a strong, successful workplace. Every day, I see how easy it is for leaders to lose sight of their people and what it truly takes to guide them toward success. The truth is, I can’t be successful unless my team is.

I loved this book so much that I bought several copies as gifts for friends who are managers and leaders—a perfect stocking stuffer.

I’ve personally known Dr. Kate Vawter for over ten years, and I am incredibly proud of her growth and all she has accomplished. Congratulations, Kate, and cheers to everything still ahead!

Human-centered leadership that actually works!

As a small business CEO, I’m constantly growing as a leader, and working with Dr. Kate Vawter and Ascent Solutions has already made a huge impact on my team. I picked up Better Boss Blueprint because I wanted to continue that growth, and it truly feels like having Kate right there coaching me through every challenge.

The human-centered leadership approach and tools like the “Five Hats” helped me rethink how I show up for my people, especially when things get messy. It’s relatable, practical, and full of real stories from workplaces like mine, no really… some of the stories are really from our workspace (shared with permission) - it’s all real people, not corporate theory.

If you care about building trust, supporting your team, and creating a workplace where people belong, this is the leadership book to read. Highly recommend to new managers, seasoned managers, founders, and anyone who wants to lead with empathy and results.

I consider this the missing manual for the "Scientific Operator."

As a former chemist who transitioned into leadership, I was the classic "Accidental Manager." I approached leading people like I approached chemical reactions: looking for formulas and predictable outputs. Early in my career, this lack of emotional dexterity cost me a close friendship because I didn't know how to separate "The Friend" from "The Boss."
Dr. Kate Vawter’s Better Boss Blueprint identifies this exact struggle as "Hat Confusion."

Most leadership books give you the theory (Lencioni gives the structure; Sinek gives the "Why"). Vawter gives you the behavior. Her "Five Hats" framework (Leader, Supervisor, Coach, Mentor, Friend) finally operationalizes the fuzzy concept of EQ into a system that analytical minds can grasp.

Definitely a book I recommend to new and established leaders.
