After his powerful, drug dealing family falls victim to the very thing that once helped them dominate Philadelphia's tough underworld, SONTINO "SONNY" MORENO found himself trapped in the slums of North Philly. Now, at the age of 23, his sole ambition is to lock down the streets of Philly and reclaim the power and glory his estranged father once possessed. Unfortunately, the only thing standing in his way is the grandfather he never knew existed. As Sonny begins his bloody rise to prominence, the concept of family falls by the wayside and murder reigns supreme. Love turns to hate and some who claim to be loyal commit indelible acts of treason. Will Sonny's bloodline be the cause of his success or the root of his downfall? Either way, the streets of Philly will never be the same.
I got all wrapped up in this story. I laughed at the humor some of the characters exhibited, I cried for Riri and her unborn, it was so sad. My heart broke for Sonny when he said his final goodbye to Riri. I’m truly enjoyed this book. The storyline was on point and the characters was well defined. I like most of the characters regardless of what role they played in the story, they were developed and moled into the story. But can you imagine a violent and bloody war started because of greed and power, because they couldn’t agree to a deal but I’m weird, I love the actions.
I enjoyed the action. The author actually made the effort to have a real plot and make it mostly make sense! Plus while all the sex is cool for some people it doesnt interest me so im happy to say i didnt have to skip an excessive amount of it as i usually do. Everything wasnt perfect but u can tell the author has talent and i bet over the years has gotten even better. Even used a couple words i had to look up! And they were used in the correct context!
5 stars cuz the author from Philly. It was good, but I honestly wish y’all change the narrative. Sonny was corney af for cheating on RiRi. Like u were legit laid up with ur bm that u were cheating with while she was getting ran over because of some bs that had nothing to do wit her n her unborn kid. I feel like he gone live happily ever after with Daphney n his new kid. Im just mad RiRi n her unborn child had to die in the mix n it’s his fault. But im sure he’ll b just fine
This is my first read by this author and I must say this book held my interest from beginning to the end. Sonny wasn't no joke he was a thinking goon but he didn't play when it came to handling business. I hated that Riri & his unborn got killed. Now I'm read part 2 too c what he's gonna do, if he's gonna become the head of his grandfather's clan and merge the 2 into 1
The story started slow as I tried to keep up with the characters. The storyline is drugs, sex and getting that money. Murdering their enemies is a top priority. Could this be true in the real world? I believe some of it is definitely happening in Philadelphia and other cities. 3.5 stars.
This was a pretty good book. I like the storyline. It was pretty raw. I was not expecting some of it. Not sure who is the good guy. Some pretty shady and grimy characters. Gotta know what happens next.
Wow, i couldn't put this book down. It was like I was watching a movie. I'm glad Easy got his self together. I felt Sonny's pain after Riana. Yo Grip a m*@thf<>ker. I can't wait to read the next installment.
Tried but I can't with th... Tried but I can't with this, the gang stuff was annoying but going back in time for some charcters that I'm trying to understand present day was not helping. I'm unclear on what year the story takes place in still. Not my type of read.
Good story. Started from the beginning and kept it going. I would have enjoyed more about Mook, but his character fit really well in the story. On to Part 2
Grip is an old school boss of a crime family. One major error in judgment in his younger years cost him everything that was dear to his heart. Too prideful to make amends, life goes on, people take different paths and do their own thing. That is, until olds meets new, seasoned connects with infancy, and life comes around full-circle.
Sonny is that guy. He has lived through much and seen even more, yet despite it all, he made it. That boss spirit runs through his veins. He just wants to make a better way for his family. When the opportunity of a lifetime falls in his lap, he sees no other option but to follow the road wherever it leads. But the veterans aren’t too pleased with the young folks’ ways of doing things. Although the transition should have been an easy one, big egos and arrogance quickly make it escalate.
With entities turned on each other and crooked cops in the midst, things swiftly turn bloody. The players are falling, loyalties are tested and an empire is at stake. When the wrong person ends up in the crossfire, all hell breaks loose. After the smoke clears, there’s only two major players who remaining standing, guns pointed towards each other. The only question is who will remain standing?
Askari has penned a great story that moved along at just the right pace. He fused this story with love, betrayal, loyalty, brotherhood, coming into manhood and of course, that hardcore street life. It was nice to see a young hood who didn’t get off on disrespecting or degrading women. Although in his humanness he got caught up, he wasn’t portrayed as a doggish, whorish man who demanded more than he gave. The back story within this tale, made these characters very believable and relatable. The reader was able to see beyond their hard exterior and bravado to just see a man. This is a full story, which is always a plus! Can’t wait to see how it all comes to a head.

This was some crazy drama. This book had a lot of characters, and a few things were predictable... But OMG, this book is going to send you on one check of a rollercoaster ride. A lot of suspense, ridiculous violence. I hated that some of my favorite characters got killed, but I trust it had to be. I got so wrapped up in this book,I forgot to eat my snack, lol. These youngsters and the ol' heads, was bout that life for real!. This is a definite MUST READ! Loved this book!
I give this book 5 stars because author Askari knows how to make fiction read like nonfiction this was street lit at it's finest. It had everything you could want great storyline, great characters plenty of action plus the author takes the time to break down each of the characters
This was drama at it highest point and that means it's a lot. This was a story that had potential but loses you because it doesn't tie the events together. There are however parts were you see promise and you keep reading.I just think a little bit more time is needed and patience.A fairly good story just needs work.
I like that it kept my attention, really great dialogue, I just didn't like that the "Boss's " wasn't really on top of their game to many got laid down so not cool and there was no protection for the family member especially the women. But over all its a great book.
This book was fiyah y'all! I was literally salivating reading this book!! Anxiously wanting too know what happens next !!! You won't be able to put it down trust me!! I didn't!!! I know the sequel is out of this world!!! A must read!! Aksari babbaaayy you was not playing!!! I'm riding with whatever you put out from now on!!! Yesss!!!
What people do for power, these drug dealers all say the same thing, they don't just hustle for the money they do it for the thrill, well sometimes you should leave the game when you have more than enough money because this hustle turns family against each other and bodies are dropping all over the city
This book was a CERTIFIED BANGER if I could give it more than 5stars I would. Everything from the storyline to the characters was on point it flowed good and kept me hooked. I look forward to the next installment.
The best book I've read this year! Action plus More action and romance destined to end in tragedy. A must read. Can hardly wait to read the next book. Some grammatical errors, but who cares when the book is this good! No Sweat
