Siblings Charlie and Kaycie O'Conner are reluctantly reunited after heartbreak - and something far more sinister...
What begins as a disturbing string of coincidences soon unravel into a blood-stained thread connecting them to their family's darkest secrets.
Beneath the mysterious death of their mother, lies a hidden world. A centuries-old cult obsessed with conquering death, and willing to sacrifice anything to achieve it. As the O'Conners dig deeper, they unearth something that was never meant to be found... and mark themselves as prey.
This book was SO creepy and suspenseful, and I loved this author’s style of writing. It was eerie, and well written. I really loved the characters, especially Kaycie. Even the villains were fascinating (I won’t name names to keep this spoiler-free). The descriptions were genuinely creepy! There were moments that made me feel a little nauseous, but in the best way! The atmosphere is dark and unsettling throughout, and the story kept me fully invested in the characters and what would happen to them. The ending lived up to everything that came before it, and I found myself rooting for the main characters the entire time. The ending was dark, but very satisfying. I highly recommend!
Some Secrets Refuse to Stay Buried This one pulled me in fast and never let go. What starts as grief and uneasy reunion quickly turns into something far darker, layered with family secrets that feel genuinely unsettling. I loved how the mystery slowly tightens, revealing a chilling cult and a history soaked in blood. The tension builds beautifully, and the sense of being hunted lingers long after the last page. A sharp, eerie read that proves some truths are far more dangerous than lies.
This book kept me hooked from the very beginning! The paranormal/cult plot was so well executed. Being a lover of both of those I just thought it was going to be a good read and I was right! I had no idea where this was going til the bomb dropped and was like ‘OHHHH SHIITTT!’ 11/10 recommend! Author writes incredibly well and can’t wait for future books!
This one pulled me in immediately. The writing is so smooth it almost disappears, and before I knew it I was completely immersed. It gave me strong Stephen King and Dan Brown vibes in the best way. It’s intense and heavy, but in a way that keeps you fully invested. There were moments that made me laugh, moments that hit hard, and twists that had me on the edge of my seat the entire time. The ending wasn’t what I expected, which made it stick even more. At times the descriptions leaned a little heavy for me, but overall I thought this was brilliant.
Excellent storyline that was fast moving from start! I was into it for sure! Kaycie the female main character is def a new fav of mine. I also loved like the interactions between her and her brother Charlie as well as her dad. I loved the supernatural/culty plot line as well. Awesome first book for this author and look forward to a possible sequel or any other work from him!
Two starts with grief and this awkward, reluctant sibling reunion… and then it just keeps tightening the screws. The shift from “something feels off” to “oh no, this is deeply wrong” was done so well. I never felt rushed — the dread just kept building.
I loved Kaycie. She feels sharp and real and messy in a way that worked for me. The sibling dynamic felt authentic too — complicated, emotional, not neatly resolved.
Now let me say this: I absolutely loathed Marren. Like, full-body irritation. Which honestly means the character was written effectively, because that reaction didn’t come out of nowhere. And Allan… I understood what he was trying to do. I really did. But I kept thinking, “Sir. There had to be a better way.” That frustration actually made the story more tense for me.
The cult/paranormal elements were creepy without feeling over-the-top. The whole “family legacy soaked in blood” angle was genuinely unsettling. And when the twists started landing near the end? I had that moment of just staring at the page like… okay. Okay. I see what you did there.
The ending is open, but not in a lazy way. It felt intentional. Dark. A little haunting.
If you like cult horror, messy family secrets, and characters that make you feel something (even if that feeling is rage), this one’s worth picking up. I’ll definitely read more from Andrew Myles.
As someone who doesn't read many mystery novels, I can say I do like this book. The twists felt nice and not rushed, the characters felt more than some plot devices. I would recommend giving it a tray and if you like it that's amazing!
This is a well written horror/ family drama. I loved loved loved the sibling dynamic. Creepy and chilling. It kinda feels like one of those 90s/ early 2000 horror flicks.
