Teaching Religious Education: Primary and Early Years

Rate this book
Many trainee primary teachers are uncertain as to the place and purpose of RE in primary schools. This book is designed to alleviate such fears and give trainees the security and confidence to teach RE effectively. Trainees are encouraged to recognise their own religious position and understand how they handle their own beliefs and commitments in the classroom. In addition, they will learn how to be sensitive to children′s religious viewpoints, allowing children to share their beliefs in a secure and supportive environment. A range of strategies help readers to provide engaging and appropriate RE across the primary age phase.

Very outdated - 2*

With this series, the links to National Curriculum are outdated and the QCA is no longer used. The subject knowledge and pedagogical guidance is minimal which is disappointing for these series as these books are usually useful in their subject knowledge or pedagogy.

It is about time that this series was updated because they would be useful if they were linked to the National Curriculum (2013).

Disappointing.

Note: for trainee teachers, unless your RE tutor is dreadful (which mine isn't!), there's no point reading this - there are better books out there.

It is not a criticism of the book to suggest that whilst it attempts to provide a non- biased approach to the teaching RE, it cannot account for bias of the reader for whom there may be some anomalies. Read more: http://escalate.ac.uk/4781
