He guards the net like it’s sacred. I guard my secrets like they’ll kill me. We’re both right.
Declan Reid lives by laces tied tight, gloves taped twice, silence before the storm. On the ice, he’s unshakable. Off it, he’s a ticking bomb, haunted by guilt, chained to a father who demands perfection, and one misstep away from breaking.
Talia Addison doesn’t do chaos anymore. Not after what happened at her old school. Not after the night that stole her voice. As the coach’s daughter, she knows the rules better than stay quiet, stay distant, never touch the players.
But Declan isn’t just any player. He’s the one who sees her.
He’s control and violence in human form. I’m calm and ruin hiding behind a smile. We don’t fit. We shouldn’t touch. But the moment he looks at me, I forget every reason to run.
Our connection isn’t gentle; it’s collision. He’s the silence I never thought I’d find. I’m the fracture he never saw coming.
And when the past resurfaces, it won’t just test us. It’ll destroy everything we’ve fought to survive.
A Silent Girl, a Haunted Goalie, and a Collision Neither Survives Unscathed
Declan Reid is a wall on the ice and a storm off it—rituals, pressure, guilt, and a father who treats perfection like a weapon. Talia Addison is the opposite: quiet, careful, still healing from the night that took her voice and shattered her sense of safety. She’s the coach’s daughter, he’s the one player she can’t go near… but Declan sees her. Really sees her. Their connection isn’t soft or sweet—it’s sharp, consuming, and inevitable. He’s violence held together by tape and discipline; she’s calm wrapped around old ruin. Together they don’t fall—they collide. What works: The trauma tension is beautifully written. Declan’s protective, tightly controlled intensity paired with Talia’s fragile courage gives their romance serious emotional weight. Their bond feels raw and real, not rushed. What might not: This is heavy. The pacing leans emotional over plot-driven, and the past trauma resurfacing may be tough for some readers. If you’re into dark, aching romance with two broken people finding a sliver of peace in each other? Declan and Talia’s story delivers the punch.
This was pretty good! we've got a silent and haunted FMC dealing with the aftermath of a violent assault and a MMC who's fighting demons of his own. Talia and Declan were so sweet together and I loved seeing them come into their own. I will say that this book felt heavier than I anticipated and while there was smut it didn't feel hot or engaging, it's the connection and romance that really shines here. I also found that some parts of the book dragged a lot. That said, the highlight was seeing two broken people coming together and ending up stronger.
The book carries a palpable weight, rooted in a troubled past and burdened by heavy expectations. The emotions run deep and raw, and every moment feels charged with tension. Amid the unfolding plot and the dynamic push and pull between the main characters, I appreciate how the author gently weaves in a sense of purpose for their future, along with a strong found family element that supports them every step of the way. Received this as an ARC and grateful for it.
Fractured goal by @brookewilderauthor ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Oh my heart. I wasn’t ready for how this book was going to make me feel. There was so much raw emotion behind this these characters and what they went through in life. Finding each other. Trusting each other. Just when you don’t think you will ever be able to trust another person, here comes someone who makes you feel seen and heard. Ugh I loved this so much as cannot wait to see what you come up with next 💥
WOW! This series has me in such a hold! The trauma bonding, the troubled goalie and silent FMC. She’s the coaches daughter and he’s the goalie. Declan sees her the way she hasn’t been seen before and they fall hard. The bond feels real and not rushed or faked. This is a heavy book but leans more into the emotional side rather than the plot side. This was everything!!!
