Drawn from the chronicles of generations of Zen monks' and nuns' teachings, this is a collection of Zen wisdom, traced through the lives, works and writings of enlightened beings. It consists of the stories, sutras, parables, proverbs, tales and real-life events of people who set out to inspire both the world that surrounded them and those who came to learn from them. The book is part of a three-volume series which also includes " the Poetry of Zen" and " the Wisdom of Zen".
This book wasn’t what I was expecting or hoping for. The content was a bit dry and lacked a lot of interest. There were a few things that were meaningful and had lessons.
A very thought-provoking, short read. The Zen Anecdotes chapter was the most enjoyable section for me. I especially enjoyed the, "Something from Nothin," story of Zen master Zenko.
