She believes in Christmas magic. He hasn’t believed in anything for a long time.
Faith
All I wanted was to make sure every kid in Mercury Ridge had a toy under the tree. What I didn’t plan on was getting snowed in with the grumpiest, growliest man in the mountains—the one who carves those beautiful wooden toys everyone loves.
He’s all scowls and solitude, while I’m determined to bring a little Christmas cheer to his cabin whether he likes it or not.
But when the storm rolls in and the fire burns low, the only thing melting faster than the snow… is my resolve to keep things professional.
Beau
I came up here to be left alone.
Then she showed up at my door wearing a Santa hat, talking a mile a minute, and smiling like she’s never had her heart broken.
Faith thinks she’s here for toys. But the longer she stays, the more I realize she’s the gift I didn’t know I needed.
And once I’ve had a taste of her holiday sweetness, I’m never letting her go.
Toying with the Christmas Mountain Man is a short, steamy instalove holiday romance featuring a broody toy maker, a sunshiney volunteer, one snowed-in cabin, and enough heat to roast chestnuts by. Over-the-top possessive hero, no cheating, no cliffhanger, and a guaranteed HEA hotter than mulled wine by the fire.
Beau came to the mountains to disappear. With nothing but his tools, his firewood, and the weight of his past, he spends his days carving toys that bring joy to others but never lets himself see it. He doesn’t want company. He doesn’t need saving. Or so he thinks.
Faith isn’t afraid of a little snow. Or a lot. She’s determined to make sure every kid in town wakes up to something magical on Christmas morning. But when she climbs the mountain to collect Beau’s toys, a sudden storm leaves her stuck with Mercury Ridge’s most reclusive resident.
One night becomes two, and the cabin isn’t the only thing heating up. Faith’s warmth starts to thaw more than just the ice outside. Beau, gruff and guarded, begins to see the world—and himself—a little differently.
As the snow clears, so do their defenses. What started as forced proximity turns into something deeper, something neither of them expected. But when the world outside calls again, they'll have to decide if this connection melts with the snow or stays rooted like the mountain itself.
Beau begins emotionally closed off, shaped by grief and silence, while Faith arrives open-hearted, persistent, and full of purpose. Together, they challenge each other, soften in all the right ways, and discover a connection built on trust, vulnerability, and the courage to be seen.
A steamy, instalove, grumpy sunshine, forced proximity, snowed-in, small town Christmastime mountain man romance, exploring healing from grief, rediscovering connection, emotional vulnerability, Christmas spirit, community belonging, found family, and unexpected love. It's about letting someone in after years of solitude, choosing trust over fear, and finding home in the most unexpected place. At its heart, it's about love that melts walls, mends wounds, and stays.
The Elevator Pitch: A grumpy mountain man and a cheerful holiday volunteer are stranded together in a snowstorm, where tension turns to heat and emotional walls begin to fall. As the fire crackles and the storm rages, their connection deepens into something neither of them saw coming. It's a romance full of cozy cabin moments, slow trust, and love that arrives like a gift when it's needed most.

"Operation Christmas Spirit" is the theme, and surely everyone has some, right?
Faith Evans volunteered to pick up the Christmas toys created by Beau for the Mercury Ridge Holiday Fund. She's heard that he's almost a hermit these days and is a gruff mountain man. But Christmas is near, and his toys are the only gifts some children will receive. Unfortunately, it's not the best day to be traveling, but she must. Her GPS indicates that she's almost there. The road is getting steep, and there haven't been any guardrails for a ways now...
At last she arrives. Beau's cabin is picture perfect—except no one answers the door when she knocks and calls his name. Finally she tries the door, and when it's not locked, she enters, calling his name. He was there busily crafting toys. He's a bit miffed because she's a day early, but she explains that she was trying to beat the storm. She didn't—so she's stuck at least overnight.
Beau Lawson is the grumpy man that carves the fantastic toys that everyone in Mercury Ridge loves. His father raised him and taught him, with hands always covered in varnish, how to craft things that will survive both him and Beau in a garage workshop. Beau once believed in Christmas and loved the season. But when cancer ripped his father out of Beau's life, that love ended. The noise of Christmas became too much for Beau, so at the age of twenty-four, he withdrew from others and moved up into the mountains to be alone. That was working well for him until Faith showed up on his doorstep.
Faith was raised by her single mother, who worked three jobs and sometimes four during the Christmas season, to shelter her from knowing how poor they actually were. A heart attack killed her mother when Faith was a college sophomore. The doctors said it was from years of stress and inadequate sleep trying to keep Faith unaware of the true extent of their poverty. That is why the thought of a child not receiving even one Christmas gift and feeling unworthy and/or unwanted is abhorrent to her. It will not happen on her watch—not while there's still a breath left in her body!
Faith may not be all that big, but she's powerful! She sees him as healing, not broken. Singlehandedly she's dragging him back into the light and magic of Christmas...

Pippa Brook’s Toying with the Christmas Mountain Man is the kind of cozy, heart-melting holiday romance that sneaks up on you like the first snowfall—quiet, gentle, and impossibly beautiful. It’s a story about grief, hope, and the way one unexpected visitor can breathe life back into a lonely cabin—and the man inside it.
Faith is sunshine personified. She believes in Christmas miracles, hot cocoa diplomacy, and the healing power of handmade toys. When she climbs the snowy trail to Mercury Ridge to collect donations for her toy drive, she doesn’t expect to end up snowed in with the reclusive toymaker himself. Beau Granger is the definition of rugged solitude: a man who speaks in grunts, hides his grief behind his workbench, and doesn’t believe in holiday cheer—or second chances.
But Faith is determined to thaw his frozen heart. And when the storm traps them together, warmth sparks where there was once only cold. Between playful banter, unexpected laughter, and one unforgettable night by the fire, Beau starts to believe that maybe—just maybe—Christmas magic still exists.
What makes this book shine is its emotional honesty. Brook doesn’t just write about romance; she writes about healing. Faith doesn’t fix Beau’s grief—she simply gives him the space to remember what it feels like to live again. And Beau, in his quiet, wounded way, teaches Faith that sometimes the greatest gift isn’t what we give others—it’s what we allow ourselves to receive.
It’s steamy in all the right places, but what lingers long after the final page is the tenderness. The sense that love, no matter how broken or buried, can still grow in the coldest places.
If you love grumpy/sunshine tropes, forced proximity, or holiday stories with real emotional depth (and a dash of spice), Toying with the Christmas Mountain Man is the perfect winter read.
Some hearts don’t need fixing—they just need the right person to believe in them again.
⭐️ Perfect for fans of: small-town Christmas romances, reclusive heroes, sunshine heroines, found family, slow-burn steam, and happily-ever-afters that feel earned.

A cozy, heart-warming holiday read full of charm and snowed-in magic!!!
Toying with the Christmas Mountain Man is a festive delight from start to finish. Faith is the kind of heroine who radiates warmth and determination — the friend who always makes sure everyone feels seen and valued. Her mission to spread holiday cheer (and ensure every child in town gets a toy) immediately won me over.
Enter Beau: a quiet, rugged toy-maker who has tucked himself away in the mountains and firmly sworn off seasonal spirit. The forced-proximity, snowed-in setup is wonderfully done — gentle humor, tender moments, and a slow thaw as these two opposites learn to trust each other. Watching Faith coax Beau back into believing in connection and holiday magic was incredibly satisfying.
This story delivers all the cozy winter vibes you want in a holiday romance: flickering fires, handmade gifts, small-town traditions, and a love story that feels like a warm blanket on a snowy night. Perfect for readers who adore grumpy-meets-sunshine energy, found-faith in love, and happily-ever-afters wrapped in twinkling lights.
A quick, charming, feel-good Christmas romance you’ll finish with a smile — and maybe even a craving for hot cocoa and wood-carved ornaments.

Love Heals Old Wounds - Faith only meant to go up the mountain to collect the toys for the charity drive, but Mother Nature had other plans for her and caused her to become stranded. Beau preferred living his life in solitude, so he wasn’t too pleased when Faith arrived early, but he wasn’t going to send her out into a dangerous situation. Faith used the time with Beau to get him to open up about himself and help him deal with the grief he had been experiencing.
Beau and Faith never expected their attraction for each other would grow over the short time they were together, but it led to them engaging in one pleasure-filled night. Faith took the opportunity to get Beau out of his comfort zone and join in the festivities, which made him finally acknowledge his true feelings for her, so they could have a chance at a wonderful future together. I enjoyed every moment I spent reading this fantastic story, with wonderful characters and an exciting storyline. If you are looking for a lunch time treat, then this is the one for you.

This dive into Mistletoe Ridge for a great christmas story.
I love the grumpy recluse of a mountain man with hands of pure talent creating such amazing wooden creations. Beau is used the quiet and the silent. He can work on making handmade toys that get given out at Christmas. He was NOT prepared for the sunshine that Faith is, and how it changed his entire world.
The sunshine grump vibe in this is strong, but honest. They both seem very genuine, hesitant for reasons, and willing to see they both got something they both needed. Its got a great story of learning about each other, and how sometimes you stay stuck until you find someone who makes you not want to be that way anymore.
The whole vibe of wood work, and seeing kids enjoy what Beau makes...is amazing!! You get all the great christmas vibes with this HEA.
TOYING WITH THE CHRISTMAS MOUNTAIN MAN is Book 2 of the Mistletoe Ridge series. It's a short and steamy, instalove, OTT, opposites-attract, grumpy-sunshine, forced-proximity, curvy girl gets her mountain man Christmas romance. Faith is a sweet and curvy Christmas ray of sunshine who is collecting toys for the Christmas festival. Beau is a hunky, grumpy, reclusive toy maker. When Faith goes to his house to pick up the toys he agreed to donate, she ends up snowed-in. Beau is taken with the curvy beauty but also not used to letting people in. As they spend time together, things heat up and Beau's walls crumble as he realizes maybe he doesn't want to be alone anymore. This couple was so sweet together. The banter was funny, the chemistry was smokin' and the ending was so happy. I loved this feel-good Christmas romance so much!
