What greater beauty is there than the truth?
-Quote associated with Minollo, god of the Artstone

Three years have passed since Gal’Tsus took his bloody band of orcish marauders across the sea. Three years since the deceptions of Dolocius and the horrors of Magdris were undone. Three years since Sophia Vollimosa was stripped of her duties as Elgion’s Keeper.

Three interminable years without her sisters, either amidst the busy streets of the capital or on the rustic frontier. Anywhere would be better than not at all. But unfortunately, Sophia is left with nothing but memories and letters from across the sea.

Letters that hide the truth. Mundane lines about boring lives. The Vollimosa sisters never lived boring lives…

Those two firebrands are probably having the time of their lives, or … or they are in utter misery. Sitting amidst marbled halls and strolling cobbled streets, she is left to wonder. Has Alexa, that stalwart Rangemaster, found the courage to lead; to prevail against the bitter conflicts she has faced. Left to wonder if Bella, that fiery stablemaster, has overcome the traumas of the past; the misery inflicted by a bloodthirsty brute.

As a Keeper of the Stones, she is meant to think, to ponder the vagaries of the fickle gods’ designs, but under the intense scrutiny of the Grand Keeper she wonders if she has gone insane. Especially when her latest task is enough to shock even her.

It wasn’t a trick she had seen before, but the mutilated body of the victim could mean only thing. This murderer knows how to cover their tracks, or…well, she didn’t want to think of that.

The author takes us to a world that is old West frontier mixed with Medieval tones populated with magical beings both good evil and in-between. Our story follows three courageous sisters who must band together with all good people of Talaea to defeat a foe demonized beyond comprehension by Magdis, a god who thrives on the blood of others. The ending will leave you wishing for more...

Love this book even better than the first one. Enjoyed the background on the girls' parents and growing up. The author fleshes out characters we already know and adds new ones/ new creatures and more about the gods. Wow! When I got to the end, I yelled. "What ?!? That's it?" Can't wait to read the next one......

With The Godstone Decree, Lecoultre brings us deeper into the Gods Adrift saga, and in many ways the sequel lives up to its promise. The novel advances the stakes, tightens the plotting, and offers rich emotional arcs for its characters. That said, while it soars in many areas, it doesn’t quite become flawless — thus my four-star verdict.

What impresses most is the worldbuilding and the sense of scale. Lecoultre expands the mythology and lore: godstone, gods’ designs, political machinations, and how the powers entwine with mortal affairs all gain more clarity and force. Sophia and her sisters remain central, and their struggles feel grounded, rather than just epic abstractions. The narrative spans personal loss, betrayal, secrecy, and the weight of responsibility — and Lecoultre handles those with care.

The pacing is generally strong, shifting between action, internal conflict, and intrigue in a way that keeps momentum alive. Many scenes deliver visceral impact: battles, confrontations, revelations — they land the way high fantasy should. Some of the emotional beats hit hard — grief, loyalty, and sacrifice are felt, not just told.

But there are a few weaknesses that prevent this from being a five-star triumph. In moments, some plot developments feel a little too convenient, or transitions between scenes are abrupt. Certain side characters and subplots don’t always get the attention they deserve, making parts of the cast feel more like set pieces than fully dimensional players. Also, as the mythology deepens, some explanations remain vague or underdeveloped — in a story with so many moving parts, clarity is essential, and a few threads risk getting tangled.

Moreover, while Sophia is compelling, there are moments when I craved more internal insight—more time to live in her uncertainty or conflict before she resolves it. The emotional crescendos occasionally come a beat too soon; a little more build or hesitation would have made those moments land harder.

Very good writing. Gives information needed without being overwhelming. Even though I did not read the first book I had no problem following along with what had happened. Characters are well thought out and have a depth to them that you don't always find. Its easy to remember things about the races that are not human, without having to go over the information a million times. I have laughed, cried, yelled and went through so many emotions while reading. I definitely recommend this to anyone that likes fantasy, great characters, and emotional rollercoasters.

As addictive as the stones that torment and heal the citizens of the Vollimosa sister's world. The Godstone Decree unfolds into a brutal mystery that drags the reader into the orbital hollow of darkness and obscurity that only our heroines and their compatriots can overcome. Both the characters and world mature in the second book of the Gods Adrift series leaving the reader craving more.
