Two old friends. One sun-soaked adventure.

Dorothy and Gina may be separated by twenty years, but their friendship is timeless. At seventy-one and nearly ninety, life’s too short not to have a little fun – especially in Corfu.

When Dorothy is invited to visit an old friend at his villa, she insists Gina comes along. They’re looking forward to sunshine, sea breezes, and perhaps a dash of ouzo. But their plans are upended by an unexpected glamorous actress Florence Quinn, who’s taken up residence in the pool house.

Florence may sparkle on the surface, but she’s hiding something – and someone – from her past. Determined to help, Dorothy and Gina embark on a quest across the island, only to find that Corfu holds more secrets, scandals, and surprises than they ever imagined.

A warm, witty, and adventurous tale of friendship, mischief, and unexpected discoveries.

This is my first Kate Galley book, but I’m really hoping it won’t be my last. It’s a fun, sun soaked romp set on the beautiful island of Corfu, full of humour, friendship, and escapism. Although it appears to be part of a series, it works perfectly well as a standalone, and I had no trouble diving straight in and enjoying the adventure.

Dorothy is nearly ninety and employs Gina, at seventy one, as her carer — though their relationship quickly blossoms into a genuine, heart warming friendship. When Dorothy’s old friend Rupert invites them to stay at his beautiful villa in Corfu, they accept with delight. At the last minute, Dorothy’s teenage granddaughter joins them too, and in true teenage fashion proves to be quite a handful. Meanwhile, when film star Florence suddenly breaks up with her MP husband and a scandal looms, her manager — another of Rupert’s old friends — arranges for her to hide away at the villa as well. What follows is a lively mix of secrets, lies, murder, intrigue, and even a touch of romance. It all comes together into a wonderfully entertaining story.

This was such an enjoyable, feel good read, full of sunshine, mischief, and the kind of unexpected friendships that make a story sparkle. Kate Galley balances humour, heart, and a touch of mystery beautifully, creating characters who are quirky, endearing, and impossible not to root for. By the end, I was completely swept up in the chaos and camaraderie of this unlikely group, and I closed the book with a big smile. A delightful escape from start to finish.

This was a fun read, though it had some serious issues and moments. I enjoyed my time on the island with Dorothy, Gina, and Juliet. It was fun meeting the people they met and the bit of mystery surrounding Florence and her true love. This book would be a good read for vacation or a weekend because it is a quick, easy read.

I received an advanced copy of this book from Netgalley and the publisher in exchange for my opinion.

While the focus here is on the characters and their connection, there's a bit of intrigue and drama mixed in. Dorothy and Gina are still enjoying life even as the aches and pains, not to mention regrets of life, keep invading. They're joined this go-round by Dorothy's artistically talented grand-daughter who also seems to have the knack for not always realizing (or caring?) how her comments and questions are taken. She's likable but, well, would be a possible embarrassment at any given moment, too. They're invited to the estate of Rupert, a long time friend of Dorothy's, who doesn't seem to have long to live. It's an amazing place, too, including private boats and such, not to mention Ioannis, who I guess you'd call has aide and driver. Then they're joined by movie star Florence who is about to be caught up in the drama of a divorce sure to create a media frenzy after her husband's statement. Her story is an important aspect of the book and provides a shocking twist at the end. Oddly enough, that one's topped soon by a discovery by Dorothy.

I won't detail the plot but it's multi-layered diving into past and present lives and the expectations of each. It took me awhile to get into the story but I'm leaning toward that just being a harsh real world invading my thoughts way too often of late. The characters are likable, even one who appears shady at first meet, and one wishes they could join them on some of their adventures. Dorothy and Gina's impulsive swim sounded delightful. Getting to know Florence, too, was intriguing, reminding us all that what we see on screen isn't necessarily what the actor is really like as a real person. I'm sorta hoping we will get an update on her life in future books, have to admit. The story, while slow to me initially, moves ahead nicely despite leisurely detours for fun and frolic.

Bottom line,I enjoyed my time with Dorothy, Gina, and friends. Well, not so much Gina's ex-husband. I'm still not certain whether I'll ever warm up to him or not. Right now I'm rooting for Erik. Nope, not telling. Read the book. Like I said, multi-stories with multi-layers. Thanks #BoldwoodBooks for this early peek at how things are going in Gina's new life, not to mention some surprising twist hints for likely future story lines. Corfu sounds delightful, that's for sure, though know they'll find other fun places to explore and enjoy, not to mention people to get to know.

The Old Girls' Island Getaway is yet another absolute delight in Kate Galley's heartwarming series, now spanning six books. Dorothy and Gina with their twenty-year age gap may seem like an unlikely pair, but their friendship is the real deal. At seventy-one and nearly ninety, these spunky and delightful women prove that life’s too short not to embrace a little fun—especially on the sun-drenched island of Corfu.

When Dorothy receives an invitation to visit an old friend at his villa, she insists that Gina join her for what promises to be a relaxing getaway filled with sunshine, sea breezes, and perhaps a splash of ouzo. Their idyllic plans take an unexpected turn with the arrival of glamorous actress Florence Quinn, who's settled into the pool house. Beneath Florence's sparkling exterior lies a hidden past—and a secret she's desperate to keep buried. Ever the determined duo, Dorothy and Gina, accompanied by fourteen year old Juliet, Dorothy’s granddaughter, set off on a quest across the island to uncover the truth, stumbling upon a treasure trove of secrets, scandals, and delightful surprises along the way.

This is a warm, witty, and adventurous tale that celebrates friendship, mischief, and the joy of unexpected discoveries. Kate Galley excels at portraying older characters with authenticity, depth, and humor, making every page feel vibrant and relatable. If you haven’t read the previous books in the series, this one stands perfectly well as a standalone.

Once you start reading, you won’t want to put it down—I couldn’t! I’m already eagerly awaiting the next installment. Highly recommended for fans of uplifting, feel-good fiction with a touch of Golden Girls charm.

The Old Girls’ Island Getaway is exactly the kind of book that lifts your spirits from the very first chapter. Kate Galley has such a knack for writing older characters with heart, humour, and a spark of mischief, and Dorothy and Gina are an absolute delight to spend time with.

Their friendship is the beating heart of the story—warm, loyal, and full of the kind of gentle teasing that only decades of shared history can create. Watching the two of them head off to Corfu together feels like being invited along on a holiday you didn’t realise you desperately needed. Sunshine, sea breezes, a little ouzo… it’s all wonderfully escapist.

The arrival of glamorous Florence Quinn adds a fun twist, and the mystery surrounding her past gives the story a lovely thread of intrigue without ever losing its feel‑good charm. The trio’s adventures across the island are full of surprises, laughter, and just the right amount of chaos.

What I loved most is how the book celebrates friendship, second chances, and the joy of saying yes to life—no matter your age. It’s warm, witty, and full of heart, with Corfu providing the perfect sun‑soaked backdrop.

A charming, uplifting read that left me smiling. Perfect for anyone who enjoys stories about strong women, unexpected adventures, and friendships that only get better with time.

I’m giving this a 4 stars! ⭐⭐⭐⭐

I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. A big thank you to NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the ARC!

This was such a multi-layered story. While the primary heart of the book is the connection between the characters, there is a great mix of intrigue and drama thrown in to keep things interesting. The plot dives deep into both the past and the present, exploring the different expectations we face at various stages of life.

It took me a little while to truly sink into the story, as the beginning felt a bit slow. However, once it got moving, it transitioned beautifully! The characters are incredibly likable—even the one who seemed a bit shady when we first met them. Despite some leisurely detours for "fun and frolic," the story moves ahead nicely. Every single character was endearing and a total joy to spend time with.

I enjoyed this quirky fun read about two elderly ladies, Dorothy, Gina and their teenage granddaughter, Julia, who go on holiday to Corfu to stay with Dorothy’s old friend, Rupert who is very unwell.
Whilst there they meet Actress, Florence who is searching the island for her long lost love whilst hiding from the press due to an imminent separation from her politician husband.
As the three help Florence search for Andreas they form a firm friendship.
This was a fairly lighthearted book about how one can have an adventure, even in later life. To be honest not a lot really happens- it’s just a gentle story about a search which serves to bring together the main protagonists.
There were a few twists towards the end of the book and I would say it held my attention sufficiently to make me turn the pages although for a quick reader like me it did take rather a while for me to finish . I didn’t realise it was part of a series and I would expect that it would be even more enjoyable if you had read the previous books.
Thanks to NetGalley and the publishers for my advance copy.

I admit that the writing was lovely, as were the descriptions of the Island of Corfu, the houses, the food, wine, etc. The camaraderie between the differing generations was somewhat different from what I expected, but it was good enough.

What I hated was that this was such a slow read for me (it took me 3 days of reading what should have only have taken me several hours) it didn't hold my attention at all, and as for the mystery/s...yes, there was one but you don't actually get to it until you've reached about 83% of the book.

There was a very interesting twist in the very last chapter. I can't be positive that I will be reading the next book; however, my curiosity about what will happen to Dorothy, Juliet and Gina may just get the better of me!

Thank you NetGalley and Boldwood Books for the eARC.
What a wonderful, uplifting book, about two female senior citizens and a teenage girl having the wonderful
chance to spend time in the sunny, beautiful island of Corfu. A popular actress, in the middle of a divorce, needs a getaway from the UK to evade the paparazzi and stays at the same villa as the other 3.
The villa is owned by an old friend who's nearing the end of his life and needs the company.
We had an enormous snowstorm here with temps in the single digits, so I was able to hunker down in front of the fire and read the book in 1 day ... heaven!
Highly recommended.

✨3.5 stars✨

This was such a heartwarming read following the main characters of Florence, Gina and Dorothy. We see their individual issues alongside a sprinkling of mystery to uncover, all while set on the stunning Greek island of Corfu. Therefore, this would make a perfect, fast-paced, summer read!

The chapters where Florence was trying to find Andreas by going around asking after anyone with the same name was very reminiscent of the movie “Letters to Juliet” which I adored so if you enjoyed that movie then I would definitely suggest giving this a go as the vibes were there.

I received an ARC from the publishers via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. Thank you!

I adored this book!

Every single character was so endearing and enjoyable to read. The connections between each character work wonderfully, and the relationships feel organic and meaningful in a way that kept me engaged regardless of the plot.

But that plot was so good! I was not prepared for the drama (probably because I haven’t read the previous books) but I absolutely enjoyed it. The mystery element added an extra layer to the book that kept me hooked, and the plot twist completely took me by surprise.

A thoroughly enjoyable, well-rounded read.

What started out as a trip to visit an old friend, turned in to an adventure, that was fun, had many surprises, and unexpected things happening. It is a story that relaxed me, enjoying the different ages of the people, and then suddenly things I wasn't expecting. It kept me reading from beginning to the end, before I could put it up.
