Because of severe depression, a girl starts behaving differently: she gets headaches, yells at her friends and even tells them lies. Her best friend doesn't know what to do.
Picked up at a LFL. Reminded me of the books I used to love as a tween with the cute cover, so picked up as a nostalgia read. Obviously I am way too old for this and it’s not a 3 star read to me, but I rated it as I think I would have at that age reading it. It’s a short book at 120 pages and it covers the effect of the break up of her parents on a young teenage girl, Jill. It’s mostly told through the eyes of her best friend, Megan as she tries to support Jill. Jill is using unhealthy coping mechanisms such as drinking and shoplifting. Talks a little about depression and would be slightly educational as well as entertaining for a young reader. I’ll be passing this back to a LFL soon and hope someone age appropriate finds and enjoys this.
Best Friends Dont Tell Lies by Linda Barr was a good book but with a very unrealistic story. When I first started reading this book it was good but as the book starts getting to the end everything starts losing detail. My least favorite character would have to be Jill, because she is mentioned a lot but it seems like it is more about Megan when the seems like it should be about Jill. The best part would have to be when Jill goes on a stealing spree again just this time at a bigger place. I recommend this book for middle school and not so much High school students.
